hyperMILL overview

What is hyperMILL?

hyperMILL is a comprehensive CAD/CAM software solution designed to generate optimised NC milling and turning programs for CNC machine tools across multiple manufacturing processes. Developed by OPEN MIND Technologies, the platform provides advanced capabilities for two point five dimensional, three dimensional, and five axis machining operations and supports drilling, milling, turning, and specialised manufacturing tasks. It addresses requirements of aerospace, automotive, motorsport, mold and die, turbomachinery, medical device, semiconductor, and precision industries such as watches and jewelry. The software targets manufacturers engaged in complex component machining with an emphasis on efficiency, precision, and process optimisation in environments ranging from prototyping to high volume production.

The software includes a wide array of specialised CAM modules tailored to specific machining requirements. Milling capabilities range from two point five dimensional machining for typical tasks to advanced five axis milling technology that incorporates collision avoidance and tilt strategies. High performance machining is supported through hyperMILL MAXX Machining, which delivers efficient roughing with high performance cutting, finishing, and drilling processes. Turning requirements are addressed through hyperMILL TURNING Solutions, which covers mill turn and turn mill machining as well as high performance and three axis simultaneous turning operations.

Specialised modules extend the software beyond standard subtractive processes to include industry specific operations such as impeller and blisk machining, turbine blade manufacturing, tube processing, tire mold production, and on machine deburring with three and five axis strategies. Additive manufacturing workflows are supported for powder bed three dimensional printing and directed energy deposition. Wire spark erosion machining is enabled through the integrated OPTICAM solution and ultrasonic cutting is managed by hyperMILL KNIFE Cutting. Simulation and verification are facilitated by hyperMILL VIRTUAL Machining, encompassing safe NC code generation and process optimisation. Connected manufacturing workflows are established through hyperMILL CONNECTED Machining and intelligent part alignment is attained with hyperMILL BEST FIT.

Automation features include feature based programming via Feature Macro, comprehensive tool database management with virtual tool representation, and automated CAM program generation at the hyperMILL AUTOMATION Center. Rule based and AI driven automation are combined in hyperMILL INTELLIGENCE to address manufacturing challenges. The platform integrates natively with design systems such as SOLIDWORKS and Autodesk Inventor and provides CAD functionality covering curves, faces, solids, polygon meshes, deformation and multiple interface formats. Postprocessor capabilities ensure error free translation from CAM data to machine specific code and MES connectivity enables production management. OPEN MIND Technologies offers installation support, licensing assistance, consulting services, remote support, webinars, and training to facilitate implementation and ongoing utilisation.
