Autodesk fusion with POWERMILL overview

What is Autodesk fusion with POWERMILL?

Autodesk Fusion with PowerMill is a computer aided manufacturing solution designed for complex CNC programming and machining operations. The software specializes in generating high quality machining code for large scale components such as molds, tools, dies and precision engineered parts. The platform delivers programming capabilities for three-axis, three-plus-two-axis and simultaneous five-axis CNC mills, mill-turn machines, industrial robots and hybrid manufacturing systems. It targets CAM programmers and CNC machine operators in industries such as automotive, aerospace, medical device manufacturing and consumer goods production where precision surface finish and complex geometry machining are primary requirements.

The software features an extensive library of machining strategies covering high efficiency roughing, comprehensive finishing and multi-axis toolpath generation. Roughing strategies remove material rapidly while preserving cutter life and tool longevity. Finishing toolpaths enable precision machining with exceptional surface quality and minimal manual polishing. The platform supports simultaneous five-axis machining with automated collision avoidance to reduce setups and optimize cutting parameters. The Standard edition includes capabilities for two-point-five-dimension milling, basic turning operations, three-axis machining and three-plus-two-axis programming. The Ultimate edition adds full five-axis programming, offline robot programming, automated electrode production for electrical discharge machining, hybrid manufacturing workflows and dedicated toolpaths for ports, blades, blisks and impellers.

Advanced toolpath optimization tools allow global and localized edits without requiring complete recalculation to shorten programming time. Accurate machine simulation and toolpath verification detect potential collisions, gouges and programming errors prior to physical machining. Customizable templates and user defined macros capture and standardize best practices across teams to address skills gaps and accelerate productivity.

Fusion with PowerMill supports import from mainstream CAD systems, accepting surface, solid and mesh geometry even when source data quality is compromised. The platform integrates across the Autodesk manufacturing ecosystem, including three dimensional modeling, generative design, simulation, modeling-for-manufacture tools and plastic part design simulation. Flexible post-processor configuration generates NC code for diverse CNC machine controllers and hardware. Multi-core processor support accelerates toolpath calculations on large and complex projects. Custom tool library management accommodates diverse cutting tool types and holder configurations. Cloud connectivity enables project sharing, collaborative workflows and access to subscription based updates and enhancements through the Autodesk platform.
