Our commitment
Independent research methodology
Our researchers use a mix of verified reviews, independent research, and objective methodologies to bring you selection and ranking information you can trust. While we may earn a referral fee when you visit a provider through our links or speak to an advisor, this has no influence on our research or methodology.
Verified user reviews
GetApp maintains a proprietary database of millions of in-depth, verified user reviews across thousands of products in hundreds of software categories. Our data scientists apply advanced modeling techniques to identify key insights about products based on those reviews. We may also share aggregated ratings and select excerpts from those reviews throughout our site.
Our human moderators verify that reviewers are real people and that reviews are authentic. They use leading tech to analyze text quality and to detect plagiarism and generative AI.
How GetApp ensures transparency
GetApp lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. GetApp is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider’s website.

ClipCatalog overview
What is ClipCatalog?
ClipCatalog turns the video folders on a Windows PC, external drives and NAS into one searchable catalog. Local AI analyzes every video, so users can find footage by what is shown, what is said, who appears and where it was recorded, without uploading anything. It is made for video editors, content creators and anyone with years of footage spread across many drives. A scene described in plain words, such as "kids on a beach at sunset", leads natural language search to matching footage, with a strictness setting for broader or closer matches. A phrase someone said leads the Spoken words filter to the videos where it was said, also inside Chinese, Japanese and Thai sentences, with suggestions while typing. Picking a person shows the clips they appear in, and ticking countries, regions and towns finds footage by place. All filters combine freely, from AI tags, custom tags, faces, places and dates to camera brand, drone and 360° footage, resolution, duration, file name and folder, and frequent combinations can be saved as search presets. The on-device AI adds AI tags for what appears on screen, each with a confidence score, and users can add their own tags in bulk. Speech is transcribed with automatic language detection across dozens of languages. Faces are detected and grouped into people, who can be named on the People screen; duplicates can be merged, merges undone and false detections marked. Face detection is off until the user turns it on, and its data can be deleted at any time. A highlight score sorts clips by how eventful they are, and with face detection on, the Footage Type filter tells dialogue, voiceover and scenic shots apart. ClipCatalog also reads what cameras write into each file. Recording dates use the local time of the recording where the file allows, places come from the GPS position in the file and are looked up on the PC, and drone footage is recognized from data in the file. 360° video works as stitched clips and as the raw dual-lens files of widely used 360° cameras. Most HDR, full-range and 10-bit footage gets natural-looking thumbnails, older formats such as 3GP, MOD/TOD and AVCHD are supported, and a long recording that the camera split into several files can appear as one video. There is no limit on the number of videos. Folders can be added on internal and external drives, USB drives, NAS devices and mapped network drives, and videos on disconnected drives stay searchable. When a folder is moved or renamed, Relocate keeps all its analysis; if the folder stayed on the same NTFS drive, it finds the new place by itself. Each folder can be rescanned on a schedule while ClipCatalog is open, and the catalog is backed up regularly. Results appear as thumbnails of the matching moments. A result plays from that moment in the built-in player, and several results can be selected at once, then dragged into a video editor or copied to a folder. Transcripts export as TXT or SRT subtitles, and Library Statistics shows what the library holds. A graphics card is optional: users choose which one handles each AI task and compare their devices with a benchmark, and ClipCatalog uses the processor when no graphics card can do the work. It runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit) with at least 8 GB of RAM, 16 GB recommended, and the interface and the AI tag names are available in 10 languages. Videos never leave the PC. All AI analysis runs on the computer, and once the AI models are downloaded at first start, indexing and search work offline, apart from a short online license check now and then. The catalog database is encrypted, and error reports are only sent with the user's consent. ClipCatalog is a one-time purchase with no subscription and 5 years of free updates. The free trial never expires and includes every feature for up to 500 videos or 10 hours of footage, whichever comes first, with no account or credit card needed.
