Our commitment
Independent research methodology
Our researchers use a mix of verified reviews, independent research, and objective methodologies to bring you selection and ranking information you can trust. While we may earn a referral fee when you visit a provider through our links or speak to an advisor, this has no influence on our research or methodology.
Verified user reviews
GetApp maintains a proprietary database of millions of in-depth, verified user reviews across thousands of products in hundreds of software categories. Our data scientists apply advanced modeling techniques to identify key insights about products based on those reviews. We may also share aggregated ratings and select excerpts from those reviews throughout our site.
Our human moderators verify that reviewers are real people and that reviews are authentic. They use leading tech to analyze text quality and to detect plagiarism and generative AI.
How GetApp ensures transparency
GetApp lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. GetApp is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider’s website.

Get Family Protect overview
What is Get Family Protect?
FamilyProtect is parental control software for family Windows PCs. It blocks harmful websites on every browser and app on the machine, shows parents what was blocked in plain language, and is built so that a child using a standard Windows account cannot turn it off.
Content filtering that covers the whole PC
Filtering runs at the DNS layer rather than inside a browser. Because every application has to look up a domain name before it can reach a website, one setting covers Chrome, Edge, Firefox, a portable browser copied off a USB stick, the browser built into a game launcher, and any app that opens a web view. There is nothing to configure per application and nothing to redo when a new browser appears.
Categories blocked include adult content, gambling, drugs, extremism, malware and unsafe downloads, deceptive advertising, hacking and cheating tools, and filter-bypass sites such as proxies and VPN services.
Tamper resistance and self-healing
Enforcement runs with system privileges, above the child's Windows account, so a standard account has no switch to reach and no setting to undo. If protection is interfered with, FamilyProtect detects the change and repairs itself within minutes.
Protection that travels
Protection is attached to the PC rather than the home network, so it stays active on school Wi-Fi, at a friend's house, and on mobile data.
Reporting built for parents, not analysts
One dashboard covers every family PC, showing live protection status per device and what was blocked on each. Blocks are described in plain language and grouped into Serious, Keep an eye on, and Filtered quietly, so a parent can read it in under a minute. An optional add-on, Blocked sites detail, adds exact domains, times and weekly trends.
Privacy by design
No message reading, no keystroke logging, no location tracking, no microphone or camera access, and no feed of everything a child looked at. FamilyProtect blocks and reports. The narrow scope is intentional, and it is what makes the product something a parent can disclose to a teenager rather than hide.
Deployment and support
Setup takes a few minutes per PC: create an account, open a setup link on the child's computer, and protection is live. No router configuration, no network changes, nothing installed on the parent's device. Email support from a real person, usually replying within two business days, plus a self-serve help centre.
Pricing
$5.99 per month covering every Windows PC in the household, with no per-device or per-child fee and no feature tiers. 14-day free trial, rolling monthly, cancel any time.
Platforms: Windows 10 and Windows 11. macOS and Linux are coming. Phones and tablets are not covered.
