GRAITEC STEEL overview

What is GRAITEC STEEL?

GRAITEC STEEL is a native productivity add-on for Autodesk Advance Steel and Autodesk Inventor, purpose-built for structural and specialty steel detailing, fabrication preparation, and manufacturing workflows. Launched in June 2026, brings a single installable product, so users get one consistent toolset, license, and update cycle instead of managing multiple add-ons.

Architecture and Platforms.

GRAITEC STEEL installs directly inside Autodesk Advance Steel and/or Autodesk Inventor, it is not a standalone application and does not require model migration or a proprietary file format. Existing Advance Steel and Inventor models, drawings, and BOMs remain in their native formats. Each platform gets a tailored toolset: Advance Steel users get advanced connection macros, structural generators, and the AI Assistant; Inventor users get assembly clean-up, iProperties/metadata control, CNC-detail preparation (dogbones, modeled threads, undercuts), and iLogic-based automation. Parametric stairs, railings, and cage ladder tools are shared across both platforms, with platform-specific selection logic (sketch-based in Inventor).

Core Functions.

- Detailing automation: multi-beam and multi-joint editing, over 30 parametric connection macros, and structural generators for frames, bracing, purlins, and repeatable structures.

- Stairs, railings and ladders: straight, balanced, and concrete stairs, wall/ball-post/key-clamp railings, and cage ladders, generated and edited parametrically instead of rebuilt manually.

- Drawing and documentation: automated drawing checks, batch plotting, drawing clean-up, symbol/label management, and balloon/title-block automation.

- AI Assistant (Advance Steel, Named User license only): a conversational layer inside the model for asking workflow questions, isolating elements by section/length/material, creating elements from natural-language input, and generating BOMs to Excel.

Interoperability and Export Formats.

GRAITEC STEEL exports to STEP, IGES, ACIS, DWG, DXF, SAT, RFA, GTCX, and 3D PDF, supporting downstream CAM, ERP, and BIM-driven workflows without proprietary lock-in. GTCX support in particular is designed to keep model and fabrication data synchronized across connected project environments.

System Requirements.

Windows 10/11 Professional or Enterprise (64-bit); recommended configuration is an Intel i5/AMD Ryzen 5 (last gen) or better, 16 GB RAM, a 2GB-VRAM graphics adapter with OpenGL 3.0/DirectX 12 support, and 50 GB free SSD storage. An internet connection is required for initial license activation.

Licensing and Security.

GRAITEC STEEL uses Named User licensing managed through the Graitec Advantage portal: each license is tied to an individual, who authenticates via their own account and can be signed in on up to three devices concurrently (one active session at a time). Once activated, users can work offline for up to 30 days before reconnecting. Network licenses are supported through the GRAITEC FlexNet Operation (FNO) server for centralized license management across multiple workstations. Platform support for Advance Steel and Inventor is offered as a separate, purchasable service, so organizations can scale support access to match team size and license type.

Who It's For.

Steel detailers, fabricators, production managers, CAD/design office managers, and product engineers working in structural steel, specialty steel products, modular/pre-assembled steelwork, or infrastructure and transmission-tower projects. Customers report around 30% time savings from early use, growing further as automation replaces manual prep and reformatting.
