Nonimo overview

What is Nonimo?

Nonimo is a desktop application for Mac and Windows that pseudonymises client personal data locally on the user's machine before any text is sent to AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or Gemini. Personal identifiers — names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, IBANs, card numbers, passport numbers, and national ID numbers — are replaced with placeholder labels on-device using pattern matching and identifier recognition. Real details are automatically restored in the AI's reply on the same machine, preserving workflow without manual re-entry. No text leaves the user's computer during redaction, and no account or credit card is required to get started.

Nonimo targets small to mid-sized professional services firms handling client personal data across legal, accounting, healthcare, real estate, insurance, disability services, and local government sectors, in markets including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Ireland. Deployment options extend beyond the desktop application: a browser extension for Chrome and Safari automatically redacts pastes into ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini; browser-based tools handle ID-document redaction and watermarking without installation or server upload; and Nonimo Gateway, a self-hosted container deployed on an organisation's own network, redacts data before every API call to an AI provider and restores it in the response, supporting internal chatbots, agents, and automations. File redaction covers Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF, OpenDocument, RTF, CSV, plain text, and Markdown formats, producing a redacted copy alongside the original.

Nonimo supports GDPR compliance by applying pseudonymisation as defined in Articles 25 and 32(1)(a) and assisting with data minimisation under Article 5(1)(c). Firms can add custom terms — project names, case numbers, and firm-specific references — for consistent replacement across all redaction modes. A digitally signed PDF usage report, recording redaction counts by category, is downloadable for auditors or data protection officers. Central IT rollout of the browser extension by policy is supported, with per-device usage counts recorded pseudonymously.
