We have used Open Automation software solutions for a variety of projects from SCADA to HMI with custom gauges to data logging with custom report generation. Their support has been un-matched by any other manufacture that I have worked with. They have always responded very quickly to questions. Most times pointing to write-ups and/or videos on their website that address the question at hand. In the infrequent occurrence that I have discovered a problem with the software itself, they have provided an easy to install patch to rectify the issue in less than a day. You don’t get that from any other software provider.

Pros

The product offering is solid and very scalable. You can start out inexpensively with just collecting your data and archiving it in an open data base format. Add additional features as you deem necessary. Their tag pricing is flexible and reasonable in cost. You can connect unlimited clients to the server, no additional charge to access your data. They have a good set of fast device drivers for the major PLCs, along with connection to OPC and OPC UA data servers. There is an alarm notification feature for texting, emailing, and voice messaging.

Cons

Once upon a time it was difficult to find information on their website Knowledge Base. They have since improved the menu structure for the Knowledge Base. This was a big improvement.
