Unikraft Cloud overview

What is Unikraft Cloud?

Unikraft Cloud is a millisecond-native cloud compute platform that runs any Dockerfile-based workload as a Linux-based microVM with hardware-level isolation. Deployable as a managed multi-region cloud service, on-premises, or via bring-your-own-cloud (BYOC) on AWS EC2, GCP Compute Engine, or Azure Virtual Machines, it supports 100,000+ strongly isolated microVM instances per standard server. Cold starts complete in under 10ms, instances scale to zero when inactive with no idle resource consumption, and stateful resume restores in-memory state and warm caches from named checkpoints. No application rewrites are required: the Dockerfile-to-microVM build pipeline converts existing container images directly.

Unikraft Cloud targets engineering teams across AI/ML infrastructure, database-as-a-service, browser automation, CI/CD build pipelines, SaaS platforms, online gaming, and HIPAA-regulated healthcare environments. Core capabilities include instance forking (branching a live VM and its children in approximately 10ms), template-based spawning supporting thousands of templates, point-in-time restore and in-place rewind via named checkpoints, live VM migration for high availability, and vertical scaling of CPU and memory on the fly. Kubernetes integration is available through the Kraftlet virtual node, compatible with EKS, GKE, and AKS clusters. A network shield microVM handles traffic filtering and secret injection, a ROM model injects function or build code independently of the base runtime image, and a plugin API extends running microVMs over an authenticated channel. Fleet autoscaling absorbs traffic spikes in under 20 seconds. SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliance are supported with third-party penetration testing. GPU support and ARM support are available, with GPU in enterprise preview. Observability tooling includes audit events, real-time metrics and logs, and integrations with Docker, Kubernetes, and Prometheus.
