Pros

Cons

I hate that I can’t input texts or photoshop picturess and I hate how it’s only for Windows not apple.

Cons

Some options are missing from it, but that is to be expected from a web-based app. The only thing I dislike is how hard it is to open the documents generated in Google Docs through other software.

BT

Boris T.

The icons are small and it's easy to accidentally press the wrong button or hit the wrong combination of keystrokes and change the menu into tiny icons with no explanations.

SA

Sarah A.

Small but still annoying missing features - for example, the live word counter stops showing the word count at 20,000 characters for absolutely no reason.

I would honestly want Microsoft word to update its setting and looks

Reviewed 4 months ago

Overall, my experience with Words is very satisfactory because they offer a wide variety of tools that can help me writing standout.

Pros

I love how Words is a standardized application that is very often used in an office setting. I have used this application to write essays and lab reports in my high school and I don't have major issues with it.

Cons

Compared to Google docs, Words looks a bit old and non-innovative. Google Docs and be saved and accessed anywhere but for Words, you can't really do that. I wish words would improve in this aspect in offline access.

It will always be there when our internet connection is down. And the latest office 365 advancements has been good.

Pros

Word has always been there, ever since i was in 1st grade and messing around with it and then later when i was doing homework on it. It is really easy to use, we are all very familiar with the interface and you don't need internet connection.

Cons

After getting introduced to Google Docs, nothing has ever been the same. Google Docs does everything you need from Word and is much more useful because of how easy it is to work with different people using Google Drive.

It is much easier to teach students to use this product versus Google Docs. I highly recommend it.

Pros

This is the classic word processing software. It offers features that other products don’t. Plus, it is much easier to use.

Cons

Best to use when offline, as many other services provide free cloud word processors

Reviewed a year ago
Pros

Offline use is a big plus. It is also much more powerful than any free cloud-based variants such as Google Docs. Best for enterprise use, as personal use would be better suited with Google Docs. Lots of powerful tools for better design, with many provided templates as well. Not just a "simple Word processor".

Cons

Things are saved on your hard drive, therefore accessing your files anywhere in the world is difficult, unless you bring the same computer with you or put the document on a USB stick. It still costs a fair bit of money to get a full version with continuous updates.

Review of Microsoft Word

Overall, I enjoy using Microsoft Word for over 10 years. I used and am using it to manage my business as well my personal life. This software becomes more and more powerful after many evolves and improves. However, it still have some problems, like, it is hard to get the format right, it crushes, or it is pretty expensive compared to Google Docs.

Pros

The functions of Microsoft Word are great. I started to use Microsoft Word to write everything since elementary school: my trip plans, schools, work, daily ideas, etc.; literally everything. Microsoft Word provides amazing features, like various templates, different fonts, a lot of useful functions including counting words, adding comment, changing layouts and so on. Documents can be easily modified and organized.

Cons

Microsoft Word is bit pricey especially you do not have any deals or free sponsors from your school or company. It costs over $160 per year or $7 per month. Also, since I have to log in to a valid account to download and use Microsoft Word, Microsoft almost started to force me to use One Drive which automatically back up my Word documents, but I often have no idea that what and where my documents are stored.

Best software in this field

Reviewed 6 months ago

Despite several shortcomings, Word is still the best in this field. As long as you spend some time learning, anyone can use this software proficiently. But if you want to use free software, it's better to choose another option.

Pros

There is no doubt that word is one of the best text processing software. It is powerful and can achieve anything you want to achieve. When you get a new computer, Word is definitely one of the few software you install first. It now also has the function of cloud storage. If your computer crashes accidentally, your files will not be lost. Unlike when I was a child, if my computer suddenly crashed while using Word, I seemed to have suffered a myocardial infarction.

Cons

The price has become more expensive. I remember that when I was young, Word was pre-installed, but now it uses a subscription system. And because its function is too powerful, it needs a certain learning cost. Many features are not easy to find. At the same time, although it provides simultaneous editing by multiple people in the cloud, the experience is very poor. In this regard, there is still a big gap with Google Docs.

Of course Word has been around for such a long time so it is familiar and in very wide use. It does its job pretty well.

NOw there are many other options, including OpenOffice and Google Docs that do the same things but generally better. Pros

When creating a document, I can select from various templates to get my document started. If it's just a simple word document for...

Cons

Word can sometimes be frustrating when there are multiple invested parties trying to edit at the same time. The sister product, Microsoft Teams, helps to simplify this issue by allowing real-time editing of the same document by multiple parties, directly competing with Google Docs. I highly recommend this feature to combat the frustrations of working together on a single form. Imbedding pictures is also a challenge with Word, particularly with the formatting. I would recommend Google Docs over Microsoft Word any day of the week!

Pros

There are many things to like about Google Docs. - It is free - Provides a lot of the editing features as Microsoft's Word - The menu system is clearly organized, improving visibility and accessibility of features - It provides very easy formatting options and I would argue that it is easier to edit in Google Docs than it is to edit in Microsoft Word - Shared editing for the win! My colleagues and I are able to seamlessly work on a single document at the same time

Cons

- Wonky internet access will spell doom to your shared editing dreams! You are warned! - Although editing and formatting is easy in Google Doc, you are limited when it comes to styling. Styling your document with themes is limited by what Google offers you. But Microsoft offers a variety of themes! Much more than Google does. To me this is not that big of an issue.

Good software for group writing

Pros

The google docs let different users work on the same document instantly. I have been in several groups in which we should write a report and each member is responsible for different parts of the report. Using google docs let me work effectively in such groups and save lots of time since there is no need for team members to work serially, rather they can work in parallel at the same time. Furthermore, all changes to the document are being saved which team members can express their opinion about all changes that are made to the report.

I use it daily in our environment, but not enough to totally replace Microsoft Word.

Pros

It is used in education for teachers and students to share live documents. Students can work in groups, and teachers can watch and grade without printing. In meetings, teachers and administrators can share a document and note taking for the meeting is live time and everyone can comment or adjust as needed and a permanent record of the meeting is completed. No waiting for meeting minutes, they all form them live time.

Cons

It still stops short of Microsoft Offices Products like Word. While it is lightweight, highly mobile, and easy to share, it is still no Microsoft Word. It falls well short in page setup tools, customization, versatility of document design/publishing quality, and overall professional feel and look. It is a good product, but compared to other document editor capabilities, it is still not great yet.

Team collaboration on documents.

Pros

Google Docs is the best collaborative online word-processing app in existence. The track changes feature is invaluable.

Cons

Other applications such as Microsoft Word have more features. Page numbering is unclear.

Google Docs, The future of word processing

Reviewed 3 years ago

Considering Google Docs is a free product that runs through a web browser instead of a standalone application, the experience is very polished and very simple to use. The value for money is brilliant because the product is free, and the functionality is ok but not on par with paid softwares such as Microsoft word. It's sharing features feel very futuristic and cool to use (not to mention very functional). My only complaint would be it's design aesthetic has not changed in a while, and it could do with a refresh to match the new chrome design and new Gmail design.

Pros

Docs has seamless sharing features found no where else, the document updates in real time to show what other people are doing with the document, as well as settings to control others permissions. Docs also has seamless intergration with other G Suite products, for example, the integration with Google classroom is brilliant, making it simple to create document worksheets/templates for students to work through. As well as classroom integration, inserting charts through Google sheets is also a breeze, because the charts update with the changes you make on the Google sheet.

Cons

Some features that paid word processors have are missing, the extensive document layout options in Microsoft word are not apparent, but in most cases I find that a lot of features in Microsoft word are only used in very specific circumstances. Whilst that some good Microsoft word features aren't in Google Docs, you can usually find an add-on for that exact thing.

Google docs vs. Microsoft Word

Reviewed 3 years ago

As a recent graduate and now full time employee, I have utilized google docs for a wide variety of project and I love it. The formating and dragging of pictures is frustrating but at the end of the day, the accessibility of the software makes it worth using.

Pros

The sharing and versatility of google docs is fanominal. Being about to log in from anywhere with ease is what makes google docs such an amazing software. It far trumps the cloud based features that Microsoft has come out with for Word.

Cons

On the downside, google docs formatting is far inferior to that of Microsoft Word. Dragging pictures is one of the biggest pitfalls of google docs. Microsoft Word however does a great job processing the gestures in regards to pictures. In addition, Microsoft Word is able to recognize patterns in formating which makes it great when making tests or an outline for a paper.

Good option for team work

Reviewed a year ago

My overall experience has been good, one just need to know the limitations of this software. I would say that it is the best when you have to collaborate with a group of people to edit or update a single document. I personally use it a lot for our weekly scorecard review in which each department has to update their metrics.

Pros

The product is easy to use no doubt. What I like the most is that it can be updated in real time by different members of the team.

Cons

this platform natural competitor is Microsoft Word. I've been using Microsoft Word for so long that I'm very use to all its macros and cool features and Google Docs is still far from what word can do

You need to try it

We switched over to Google Docs about 2 years ago. I really like the sharing options where you can collaborate with other team members and see their comments and typing live if you are in the document at the same time. I use this feature all the time it is VERY helpful and has made our life easier with this option.

Pros

I like the fact we can share a working document with team members.

Cons

Yes, there are a lot of Edit tools missing from the regular Microsoft Word.

Collaborative writing with Google Docs

Reviewed 2 years ago

Collaborative writing and editing that isn't hindered by location.

Pros

I love the collaborative nature of Google Docs. This feature is one reason I use Google Docs. I use it for collaborative writing and editing with my team. I also use it for side gigs so clients and I can work through edits together. It makes working remotely as a writer easier. I also love the storage option. It is an excellent backup for my articles and other documents.

Cons

The equation adding option is not as smooth as the one in Microsoft Word. Maybe I am biased because I have used Word for years. The design for the equation isn't as intuitive and straightforward as the one in Microsoft Word.
