Pros

I love that you can use a free version that’s extremely capable and buy the paid for version for some extra useful features and integration with other services and software like databases.
It makes the whole process a delight for developers that don't have to care about integrating this tool with some others like builders or version controllers. All is already included here.
Jet Brains makes wonderful IDEs as it is, but IntelliJ IDEA is the best one I've used of theirs and on top of that, its the best IDE for Java that I've used.

Pros

The customer support is very good and very responsive and the turn around time is good.
They are all easy to use and well documented with good examples. Their developer support is fast and awesome.
I find it's API very accessible and self-explained and in the fly I did get attached to it, nice UI and very good performance.

Cons

I commonly have problems with lag if the program has different aspects that make it heavy. Other than that, there’s not much I don’t like.
Sometimes when it lost connection (access token) to github it randomly asks for the password again, without giving proper context.
At this point I don't think there are any features that I think are missing.

Cons

It seems lack of unit tests to their products. For example, some correct Excel equations could be messed up for some reasons which may scare users.
It makes me very hesitant to upgrade to the latest version for fear that something which used to work now doesn't (unit testing UI components is very hard).
The documentation is very bad. Include only very basic and unreal samples.

The only advantage is Android Studio is free

Reviewed 4 years ago

The customer service didn't do anything to resolve that proble,.

Pros

Android Studio is based on Intellij, and both intellij and Studio really work bad. The only good thing is Studio is free.

Cons

Periodically need to reinstall it due to failure of plugins. The software just fails to start and then need to remove plugin directory, install everything again etc.

If you're familiar with other JetBrains products, this is go-to Java IDE.

Reviewed 5 years ago

Used it for Android app development before the Android Studio was introduced.

Pros

Since I'm familiar with PhpStorm, it took no time to know how to use the IDE properly. It's basically the same, only for Java.

Cons

Nothing. It works really well, has many tools built in, like Maven package manager, debugging, and so on.

Great IDE overall

Reviewed 4 years ago

Overall it is a very powerful tool to use if you could spend sometime mastering its functionality

Pros

Although I'm a visual studio guy, I use IntelliJ IDEA when I want to code in Java or Kotlin. I like the interface and the setup. This is a very powerful tool as it is even the base of Android studio.

Cons

This is a large install and it is not very straight forward to just start whipping code. Its more like a big project kind of tool, not something you want to use to rapidly run experiments.

Pros

In the world of editors and IDEs, it's sometimes hard to find one that does everything. IntelliJ is an amazing IDE for Java development, from code refactoring to UI to VCS support; IntelliJ is worth a try.

Cons

The price is a little steep for upcoming developers or start up businesses, when things like Android Studio are free.

IntelliJ IDEA

Powerful and standard IDE

Reviewed 4 years ago

As said, moving from multiple tools in multiple languages to the same tool (even if I use IntelliJ for some language and GoLang for some other) is the best investment I've done as a developer.

Pros

IntelliJ IDEA is the IDE behind Android Studio. For people that program both in kotlin/Android and some other language, having to learn only one tool for all his/her needs is a big increment of the productive flow. This is valid for IntelliJ IDEA or any of its variants (GoLand, PyCharm, Android Studio, WebStorm, PHPStorm and so on)

Cons

It may be expensive for a small company, it's based into a year subscription (although if you stop paying you'll get the latest version available at that moment forever)

Great IDE for python and web development.

Fully functional Python and Web (typescript, javascript) development environment.

Pros

I can only speak for using it for python and web, but is a good fully featured ide. Debugger is excellent (can attach to web sessions in chrome). Provides project templates for common frameworks (django, flask etc.) that greatly improves setup time. Integrates with environment management tools such as pip and anaconda.

Cons

Not a great deal. Coming from a .NET background am more familiar with the tooling in Visual Studio, so can find navigating a bit clunky.

IntelliJ IDEA

Best-in-class integraded development environment

Reviewed 5 years ago

When deciding what IDE to use for Android development I had to choose between the 3 leaders: IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse and Android Studio. I loved working with IntelliJ IDEA from the first few days and kept it instead of the official Android Studio, even if I was working with an Android app.

Pros

The IDE market is quite crowded but IntelliJ IDEA is the leader, especially for Java development. It's open source and not limited to Java alone. It has an intelligent plugin architecture, integrated version control and the ability to work on multiple projects. I use it for Android development, even if a lot of devs prefer the Android Studio. IntelliJ IDEA is remarkably well built.

Cons

The hardware requirements are a bit high if you want to use it optimally. You definitely needs lots of memory (ideally 16 Gb) and an M2 disk to enjoy using it.

The best java IDE ever had

Reviewed 3 years ago

It's by far my favourite IDE for Java (and every other possible language using its derivates like PyCharm, CLion, Android Studio, etc)

Pros

It's so easy and comfortable building a Java application with this ide. It includes every possible feature (plugins included) and it has the most powerful auto completion and warnings system.

Cons

If you need it to work on a business software like Spring, you need the Ultimate version which may be costly but it's worth it. Also, it requires a lot of computational power to be used fluently.

Efficient Developer Tools

Reviewed 4 years ago

Overall IntelliJ IDEA is one of the best developer tools on the market. The only rival would be Visual Studio in my opinion.

Pros

The shortcuts and code organization makes development run more efficiently for both small and large organizations. I was skeptical about paying for IDE after using Eclipse for years, but this product is well worth it. I also use Android Studio which is basically IntelliJ for Android development. The initial beta needed some work, but now I wouldn't do Android development any other way.

Cons

The cost is rather expensive for the product. The community edition is great; however, most of plugins for web development aren't included. It would be great if there was a better trial version.

Excellent IDE

Reviewed 3 years ago

We use IntelliJ daily for writing, understanding and debugging code. It is an essential piece of software for us.

Pros

The most important feature is the ability of the IDE to identify the language of the code and automatically give options to download the necessary packages. It is also very easy to read code in IntelliJ since Cmd+click takes the user to the definition of the object. This and other shortcuts make it very easy to follow the code logic.

Cons

The support of Windows OS is a bit lacking.

The Pivot Table is a Fantastic Product

Reviewed 3 years ago

Generally very good, shout out to the support team who are very keen to understand any issues. Don't think I've ever had a support team schedule a call with me so that they can get a good idea of what I'm trying to do...

Pros

Comparatively easy to create reports and graphs using the pivot table VS other JavaScript table and graph solutions, primarily because you can just pump in your data and it takes care of the calculations for you. Typically you'd have to process all of your data and create some object with all of the calculations in an object with some obscure structure.

Cons

Could probably do with slightly more on the documentation front, though there are lots of examples which are most certainly helpful, sometimes you ideally want to get a definition of the classes and methods themselves.

An app to manage internal department employees load.

Pros

I really like the SfGrid and SfScheduler. The product is pretty easy to use.

Cons

Just a general idea, for me it would be nicer if it was less reliant on stylesheets( <style></style>). For instance on icons intead of IconCss or even better Keep it but also make a Icon that can be choosed based on a enum like Icon= SfIcnons.Material.Add or SfIcnons.Material.filled.Add and mybe Icon Color. So more C# in developing, less styling.
