Pros

It is a great resource for online learning as it is easy for professors to post assignments and information. It is also a great tool to collaboratively work with your peers.
I think that this has been a great way to learn new things. It is free, and it is a great for anyone needing to save money and is a student.
The overall quality, ease of use, features & functionality of blackboard make it a great software for college students and college campuses to invest in.

Pros

What I enjoy most about Zoom is its ease of use, ability to record meetings, and its affordable price point.
The cost benefit is very good and ease of connection, I can share the screen during meetings, and excellent for my work.
The fact that it is easy to learn, as well as the quit and helpful response from customer service. I am glad it was recommended to me and I will continue to help others by doing the same.

Cons

The support was horrible, most of them are salesman and when they redirect to the specialist at the end is openning a ticket because they do not know neither.
Uploading finished assignments were a real pain. The documents videos needed to be no more than a few.
No direct integration for download the record of use you need to use api to get this information. We had a problem with the LTI the integration started to direct any group to the same room.

Cons

I think we were so overwhelmed by the zoom at this bad time that there is nothing to worry about.
If I do have problems sharing my screen, etc. then I have to typically leave zoom and re-enter the meeting. It always solves the problem but is an annoyance.
There has been a few times where Zoom doesn't work well with my internet and I'll randomly be dropped from calls with no warning.

Review of Blackboard Collaborate

Reviewed 3 years ago

Blackboard has been in education for over 30 years and they have figured out the needs of teachers in that time. I feel that they have a complete product.

Pros

Recorded sessions are immediately available! No posting links or downloading necessary and Students can easily find the recorded sessions. Screen sharing is also good. I also like the fact that I can see what the students are seeing.

Cons

The video feature is good but not great - better on other platforms like Zoom. However overall this is a better product than Zoom for education.

Good idea, but doesn't live up to expectations

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall I don't think I would use it again. I prefer Zoom.

Pros

I like that it is integrated into Blackboard, that you can use it with those that don't have BlackBoard and that the recordings are saved to Blackboard

Cons

You can't view all participants at once and the video quality is low. And it doesn't always work.

Pros

Collaborate is often more convenient than Zoom, allowing for more specific features to be used during a meeting.

Cons

When others don't know how to use it properly (happens often) it is difficult for everyone to use. Organization should be easier to set up.

Blackboard Collaborate

Pretty good for meetings

Reviewed 4 years ago

Blackboard Collaborate is a good platform for distance learning, but its downsides are that it seems specific to that purpose. Zoom is better for allowing you to host meetings for other purposes than distance learning. Blackboard Collaborate could benefit from becoming more versatile.

Pros

I like that I'm able to dial in to a session anonymously or join the meeting room from where I am. Blackboard Collaborate also has the basic features such as mute/unmute and start/stop video. You can also edit the screen with a marker or pen, so it's like Zoom but on the browser rather than a separate app.

Cons

Like Zoom, I worry about the security of the platform. You can still anonymously dial into meetings, so it feels like there is an avenue for hacking. I also dislike that it is restrictive to distance learning, and I think Zoom is definitely better for versatility purposes.

Pros

I do not use Blackboard Collaborate as my primary videoconferencing platform. I did like the features it had, such a polls and breakout rooms, so I would consider using it more.

Good software for teaching large students

Reviewed 4 years ago

It is useful to manage a class of several students for a course. But, the video tutoring feature is not well designed as skype/zoom.

Pros

It is a good software to manage the student assignments, participation points, grades and sending email in groups.

Cons

Usually, large institutions and universities can afford it. The video method of learning is not very well supported.

Solid collaboration and communication platform

Reviewed 3 years ago

The general experience is that Blackboard Collaborate is a solid tool for collaboration, team and file management, and communication in video conferences.

Pros

Blackboard Collaborate has a broad range of features and comes along with high customizability. The video conferencing is very good, also in comparison with competitors, such as "ZOOM" and "Microsoft Teams".

Cons

Ease of use and ease of development is lacking. Moreover, the then even more necessary customer support is not always as available as needed and responses solving an issue can take a while. A clearer and simplified design of the overlays could tremendously benefit these issues.

Blackboard Collaborate—Everything in one place

Reviewed 3 years ago

I use Blackboard Collaborate while coaching and consulting with another company. It allows for everything to be in one place, which makes it easier for students. Blackboard Collaborate allows for authentic collaboration.

Pros

Blackboard Collaborate has a lot great features. It’s not as user-friendly in the beginning, but as you make time to explore, it becomes easier over time. On the actual blackboard presenter platform, I like that moderators have a separate chat section than the main group. I also like that any presenter/moderator can click through the slides, which is completely different than other comparable systems. Lastly, I like that participants can annotate on the main screen simultaneously. As for the courses, students are able to start their courses right away, and teachers are able to send announcements to students via email.

Cons

The breakout rooms aren’t as user-friendly and intuitive as zoom. There is not a whiteboard feature that allows for students and presenters to annotate on a blank screen.

We use this for synchronous communication with students

Reviewed 6 years ago

It helps us scale our sync programs.

Pros

The new mobile component is great and makes it easy. The chipmunking it performs to help slow users catch up is really positive. The polling and other tools are great also.

Cons

This tool is ok for zoom like calls, but it struggles for calls with more than 7 people. It's hard to see everyone in the screen (thumbnails) which is a program requirement for some of our schools.

Need a revamp to reach industry standards

Reviewed 3 years ago

This software was chosen by my employer for remote teaching, as we already use Blackboard as our e-learning platform. I found it less flexible and harder to use than most off-the-shelf solutions like Zoom or Skype.

Pros

Blackboard collaborate is a robust, no-thrills video-conferencing software that you can use with large groups (including for remote teaching). Users can join by phone if they lack a broadband connection. All basic functions are there (you can share a pdf, chat raise your hand, etc.). Sessions can be recorded.

Cons

You can only see a few participants of your screen. You cannot share Powerpoint presentations (unless they are converted into a pdf) of mix the speaker and the presentation on the same screen like you do, e.g., with Zoom's advanced features. The menu sidebar is pretty cumbersome and it may be hard to find your way (e.g. if you need to switch to a different microphone). The overall user experience is pretty boring.

Blackboard College Student Perspective

Reviewed a year ago

I was neither buyer nor administrator so I can't speak to that end of it or its cost value. However, I can say, if you're looking for a software that allows students to learn and collaborate with an interactive platforms built for learning and collaborating, this is one of the best options out there. I say this as someone who has used Canvas, Teams, and interactive text software built for collaboration....

Pros

I loved its collaboration tools. We also used it in combination with Zoom during the pandemic, which was cool as a concept. In practice, it was overwhelming because of hybrid classes and older professors who struggle with technology. At times, it could be frustrating to work with so much depending on online material but there was a security in Blackboard, that when we figured it out, solved small technical issues, the end result was reliable and optimized in some way or another for any kind of educational activity. Zoom is arguably faster paced, more live, but working with the two together, offered really unique and creative new collaborative experiences. I appreciated the versatility and accessibility of Blackboard greatly.

Cons

I disliked the inconsistent technical demands and the lack of transparency about the differences between what professors view and what students view. Some of this could be fixed with our own research but some of this could have been helped with a little more technical support on the user side. I also found the inconsistent email notifications annoying. It might seem redundant to other users but for all email notifications and correspondence, I would have preferred matching formatting and styles of notification. It would have helped me find things more quickly and it would have made skimming fifty or so emails every morning for important communications more fruitful.

Blackboard Collaborate

Powerful online learning platform

Reviewed 3 years ago

Blackboard Collaborate has a bit of a learning curve, but once you click through everything, it is easy to use. Sometimes it can be a little slow, but it holds an entire semester's work of resources, discussions, and videos with ease. Overall, it's one of the better online learning platforms I've used, and it is of a high quality.

Pros

I like that Blackboard can contain and store so many things - Zoom links and previous video recordings, slides/presentations, PDFs of complete textbooks, and more. It makes online learning as a graduate student easy, and I don't have to use my limited free Google storage to access a variety of resources that my professors provide me.

Cons

Sometimes it feels clumsily organized. This may be my university's fault, but it can be hard to find links, or I have to click through 4 levels of links to get to my destination. I'm sure site organization is managed by the admin users, but sometimes it just feels like there are too many options, half of which don't even have anything within.

Blackboard Collaborate: Video Conferencing Embedded into the Blackboard LMS Platform

Reviewed a year ago

Very great experience. Has been using it with Blackboard for conducting video lectures and office hours in my online and face-to-face university courses.

Pros

The integration of Blackboard Collaborate with the Blackboard LMS makes it very easy to conduct video chat sessions with course participants for the sake of online lecturing, tutorial sessions, or office hours. Collaborate has more or less all the features available in dedicated video conferencing tools such as Zoom or MS Teams with the ease and flexibility of using it from within the Blackboard LMS.

Cons

Some performance lagging in voice has been experienced on slow network connections. The number of participants is not the cause of this but probably the media tuning algorithms to smooth the lags cause by intermittent Internet connections.

Not sure this is worth the price

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

I like the record feature and all the basic video conferencing extras like screen/app share and chat.

Cons

It takes a long time to render the MP4 file if you record. Also, I really don’t like that its only meant to work on Google Chrome. This confuses students and users when they don’t see the options they need and it’s always due to the browser. The cost is way to expensive when you can get more stable products like Zoom or Google Hangouts.

Blackboard is so popular and so complicated

Reviewed 4 years ago

I can't complain about Blackboard. It has helped me have a constant communication with my students and share content for my courses,

Pros

Definitely Blackboard has everything a teacher needs, it can help you check plagiarism, need to do a video conference, you don't need to use zoom or any other tool, Blackboard has it. But learn to use it takes some time. I'm a professor at college and using this the first semester was a little complex. "Easy stuffs" take time to learn, but when you're use to it, you really take advantage of it. Specially these days with Covid19 pandemic.

Cons

You need to take some time to become an OK user of Blackboard. It has so many options that cause you to get lost in what you want to learn. So the learning curve is high. But it's worth it. Something I don't really like is the grading system, I think it has areas of improvements. It's current standard way of showing grades, doesn't works in other places.

Blackboard Collaborate Makes Classes Easier

Reviewed 3 years ago

Overall my experience has been nothing but positive. As a grad student as well as a Teachers's Assistant, Blackboard Collaborate has been truly amazing, and more people should considering engaging with tall the possibilities the software has to offer.

Pros

Blackboard Collaborate was a lifesaver for our school. While many teachers opted to use zoom for class meetings, we however were able to utilize Collaborate as part of or program. With minimal training and several tools for the teachers to use, Collaborate made the Covid semesters a breeze for our university. Students were able to easily log in and ask questions and listen to lectures with high-quality video and audio. Slides/Video/Documents were easily added to Collaborate for lectures and reviews. Not only were quarantine students able to utilize this software. Students who were able to join in class could follow along and communicate witht their peers as well.

Cons

The only downside is that blackboard is indeed a blackboard. Perhaps a more colorful layout could make the software more friendly.

Blackboard Collaborate

By Far the Best

Reviewed 4 years ago
Pros

After the Zoom scandals a while back, I was nervous to switch to online learning because of the pandemic. Concerned for my privacy and safety, I was a bit more relieved to find out we would be switching to Blackboard so we could use the collaborate feature for video calls. It was great! Easy to use and much better connection than other video conference softwares I had used before. My professors also did not require us to have our cameras on. So if we wanted to ask a question, we did not need to speak. Rather we could use the chat function which would actually make a noise so the teacher's attention could be turned towards there. Overall it was efficient and simple.

Cons

There is absolutely no cons to this software!

Bb Collaborate Brings Life to Online-Learning Courses

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, I am very happy using Blackboard Collaborate for my online asynchronous (speech communication) courses, as they have made my transfer to online teaching such an easy one! I can't think of a better way to present material for students, and to help individuals during coaching sessions and meetings. So easy to use, presenting in an inviting and simply way (visually) and my students have found it easy to use as well.

Pros

The easy to use Bb Collaborate helps keep an online class alive. The recording options allows teachers to teach an online course, have the experience recorded, and then uploaded for later viewing for those students unable to attend live. For asynchronous classes, setting up individual meetings, or sessions for coaching students (especially for speech communication courses) is so helpful, easy to use,...

Cons

Some of the "how to" features when searching for help in using the application were not as clearly presented (there's a lot to navigate through on those help pages), but this is the only aspect of this teaching tool that I would re-visit. The rest of the software hasn't show to be difficult to use, in any way.

Can't work without it!

Reviewed 3 years ago

I couldn't do my job without Zoom. I'm a remote employee and work with team members all over the globe.

Pros

The ease of creating, managing and holding virtual meetings is so easy! Quick tools like the personal room make it so easy to spin up meetings ad hoc and/or schedule directly from Gmail is slick.

Cons

Little ability to collaborate other than discussion. White boards, brainstorming tools to help ideate and collaborate would be awesome. I know there's break out groups, which is great.

We use Zoom as part of our online teaching and learning. It has nicely integrated with our Blackboard LMS and allows for a seamless experience for our faculty and students.

Pros

Zoom is user-friendly and has stepped up the game with advancements and improvements. There is also a great integration with our Blackboard LMS.

Cons

Hard to complain, every minor issue seems to be resolved by updates. The only difficulty is getting more faculty to switch to Zoom from Webex.
