Very simple and clear cloud based software with multiple API linkages that make it easy to sync across different platforms and track sales figures.
Some advance features such as COGS recognition methods are inadequate, compared to other software such as Autocount. Customization is not as flexible as well.

Started using Xero as the international version of another popular online accounting tool we looked at, did not support integration with any of the apps we were using to run our business. Xero offers seamless integration with ARLO Training & Event Software saving us hours an each day. For non-finance people, it's quite easy to understand and to use but still robust enough to keep our Accountant happy. Reporting is generally good but not the best for reporting on sales commissions. Definitely, a recommend for small businesses who need to work fast and efficiently.

Saves a phenomenal amount of time compared to other market alternatives.
Bank feeds and automation, integration with other software. Being able to attach files directly to bills for audit purposes. It's a true paper-free system.

Xero is for me the best alternative /competitor for QuickBooks. Love the smoothness and the features are flawless. I got to try out the trail version and I'm impressed at what the capabilities are. Good recommendation for accounting in the cloud.
- Best advantage above some other great cloud accounting systems is the multi currency feature - Great invoicing features: send automated invoice reminders, customize templates, bulk invoicing. - Inventory: Bulk import, best seller tracking, untracked and tracked items. - Connect Apps to increase effective accounting, inventory management or sales.
- Some like cloud based systems, others don't. Thing is you have to have an internet connection in order to work. - For enterprise purposes, you might look for a more advanced system. But this software covers almost every aspect of running a good business.

Clean, sleek and intuitive user interface. Lots of features without making the system complex. Fantastic integration with the bank.
Because it's cloud based there are certain disadvantages to non-cloud based accounting packages. Might not be suitable for ALL kinds of businesses.

Positive, but they often have down times. Random glitches, which can get annoying
The fact that it can integrate with Salesforce was the key selling point for us.
The integration with Salesforce happens through third party bits of software, like Breadwinner, which require a considerable investment to set-up initially. The reports are not nearly as comprehensive and flexible as other accounting softwares, but cater for all small business needs.

Easy to navigate; cloud based so easily accessible.
Simple, clean and uncomplicated with great functionality. Great reporting features. We have had excellent support from our Xero partner.
The payroll module is less user friendly. Have found it more difficult to navigate. But overall the pros definitely outweigh the cons

I have used Xero cloud accounting since they launched in the UK around 2012, it is in my opinion the best cloud accounting platform for small businesses.
The ease of connecting your business bank account and quickly getting your financial and business data in order.
The payroll module is functional and great for smaller businesses, however other more specialist payroll software providers are better suited to managing larger payrolls.

I have been using Xero for a number of months after moving away from KashFlow. The product that Xero offers and pricing is great, sadly I wish there was more to say about their customer service. To contact customer support this can only be via email which raises a ticket, they assure you a response with 24 hours but this is regularly not met. If you phone through to their offices they say they have no inbound numbers they can transfer you to. Being stuck without access to the system because of an issue with a payment has left me sat around twiddling my thumbs. Not impressed. If your self sufficient then I recommend this product, if you need a helping hand no and again - I would not recommend Xero.

Cloud based, so I can work on my accounts where ever I am.
Bank feeds make it easy to reconcile bank statements. Cloud based so I can work anywhere, and my accountant can log in and do what they need to do.
Some of the user interface is garbage. I heard it has been designed by accountants. They should have enlisted some small business users to give feedback on how a small business would use it. I give feedback, but nothing changes... Can be frustrating to encounter the same difficulties, report them to support to get them fixed and then encounter the same problem 12 months on... There is a mobile app, but I find it next to useless.

The software has been crucial for the operation of my small business, it connects with Shopify sales very well and the reporting functions allows me to track sales and profitability easily. It also makes it easy for tax time.

Inventory tracking and cost tracking is built in. Other accounting software usually charges extra for this feature, Xero does not. The reconciliation is extremely easy, even for a novice. You literally can't make mistakes because the software won't let you. Very nice for a small business owner who can't afford a bookkeeper, or simply wants to manage the books themselves. Reporting is very simple and the reports are extremely useful come tax season.
The way it deals with sales tax. When creating invoices and quotes it is sometimes very easy to forget to add sales tax, or to add it incorrectly due to the amount of options available. This burden can be lessened by making sure you add items to inventory, it is still something that needs to be carefully watched.

Xero possibly has the best customer service of all, this is where they are really winning. Xero has tons of free quality content and videos with tips and training for business owners and accountants alike. They organise regular meet ups where you can discuss issues and opportunities with your peers. Being apart of the Xero family makes me feel like i am in the "cool club" in high school, only we're cool nerds. If you are the less-bookish accountant and the more customer-oriented fun accountant then this is definitely your type of software.
Difficult to get older clients who are used to invoice books and cheque books to switch over to cloud accounting. (con not exclusive to Xero) If you are switching over from another cloud system, it can take a few hours to get used to the software/app's functions.
