The system does not install any software on the monitored databases. At 15 min. intervals, it logs into the monitored databases and gathers performance statistics. The load it produces for monitored databases is unnoticeable.
It allows verification of whether certain SQL queries which are causing bottlenecks now were behaving differently in the past. You can examine long-cycle trends to prevent performance problems in the future.
Performance Monitor allows for a very precise analysis of the root causes of problems with latches. Several other
tools enable the analysis of waits, but the ability to analyze latches makes Performance Monitor a much more powerful tool.
