Geyser Data overview
What is Geyser Data?
Geyser Data is a Cold Data Cloud built specifically for long-term archiving at scale. Think “object storage that engineers actually want to use,” because it stays Amazon S3-compatible while avoiding the usual archive-tier headaches like delayed access and unpredictable retrieval costs.
From a platform standpoint, Geyser centers on a clean S3 bucket and object model for archived data. It supports standard S3 tooling and S3 Glacier-style archive and restore workflows, which means users can plug it into existing retention pipelines instead of rewriting everything. Typical patterns are pushing GFS and compliance backups from backup software, archiving large media libraries, retaining research datasets, and keeping DR copies that are rarely accessed but must remain reliable.
Under the hood, Geyser is built around an object-based tape architecture, to get the durability and air gap benefits of tape delivered as a managed cloud service. Each tenant’s media is dedicated and isolated, not thrown into a shared pool. The platform is designed so archived media can be physically disconnected when not in use, which creates a strong barrier against ransomware and “oops” moments that would otherwise delete or encrypt retained data. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and the isolation model is meant to keep access and retention intent under control. For teams that care about operational risk, this approach reduces the blast radius of compromised credentials, malicious deletes, and ransomware that targets cloud object stores via APIs.
Integrations are practical and engineer-friendly. Users can connect with standard S3 clients, and Geyser fits into real-world backup and archiving stacks including guidance for tools like Veeam, Cohesity, Bacula, NetApp StorageGRID, iRODS, Cyberduck, and S3 Browser. That makes it a drop-in archive target for teams who want to modernize retention without turning it into a bespoke storage engineering project.
Recognition-wise, Geyser Data has been awarded Data Centre ICT “Storage Innovation of the Year” (2025) and earned a DCIG Top 3 Best of NAB Show 2025, Storage Category mention, reflecting its focus on practical archiving outcomes: durable retention, simple access, and predictable costs.
