Of 164 reviews that provide robust commentary on VirtualBox's price and value, 98% mention it in a positive light.
Most reviewers indicate that VirtualBox offers significant value for money due to its completely free and open-source nature, allowing users to access a robust virtualization platform without any licensing fees. They find it especially beneficial for businesses and individuals who need to run multiple operating systems or test software without investing in additional hardware or expensive licenses. Most users consider the absence of licensing concerns and the ability to use VirtualBox across various operating systems as major advantages, noting that it provides many of the features found in paid alternatives at no cost. Reviewers appreciate that VirtualBox is suitable for a wide range of use cases, from software development to exploring new operating systems, and say that the cost savings in both time and resources are substantial. Some reviewers feel that the large community support and the availability of additional plugins further enhance its value. However, some users report that the free version lacks certain advanced or enterprise features, such as automatic VM provisioning, and indicate that commercial licensing for the extension pack can be expensive. Some reviewers mention that resource efficiency and licensing for commercial use could be improved, but they generally feel these drawbacks are outweighed by the no-cost entry point.

Q. What is VirtualBox used for?
Oracle VM VirtualBox is an open-source cross-platform virtualization software, which helps organizations create, manage, and run multiple virtual machines (VMs) simultaneously. Features include guest multiprocessing, USB device support, remote machine display, RDP authentication, and soft keyboard. The application enables administrators to create virtual machines on one host and execute on another host with a different operating system (OS) using the same file and image formats. It provides guest additions for VM, which helps users handle video display, file exchange, mouse pointer movements, time synchronization, and automated login. System engineers can also import and export VMs using the Open Virtualization Format (OVF). Oracle VM VirtualBox offers a snapshot functionality, letting users save a particular state of VM and revert to that state as required. Engineers can transfer data between host and guest systems, and copy files, directories or clipboard formats using the drag-and-drop capabilities. It lets administrators create a full and linked copy or clone of a virtual machine in order to test different guest OS levels or prepare a backup.
