I kept a stand-alone license of Abacus (Amicus's successor) just to ensure I could access data for cases pending prior to changing case management software products. Once those cases had concluded, I decided to close down Abacus and sent a notice of cancellation.

I have never been so disgusted by the treatment I received when I tried to cancel my service after over a decade (to move to another software IN THEIR COMPANY.)

Customer service is also horrible, with no responses being received as to emails, calls, scheduled appointments being missed, etc.  

Started using Amicus Attorney in the mid-1990s. When the pandemic hit, I needed a better optimized program for web/online use, so switched to another product.

Additionally, the application has a fantastic client database with notes .

Unfortunately having all of our records in the program makes the jump to another program complicated so best advice: do not use ABACUS!

I would never recommend this to any other business owner.

It asks all the right questions and requested a wealth of information on behalf of the client.

The layout is not user friendly and the fact that the system is not accessible online.

apart from The only drawback I can mention is that updating can occasionally be a horrific experience.

It has cost me more money in lost time than I have paid for the program itself.

Once an appointment is scheduled, it also is linked to the events feature, so the  program allows for multiple ways to check that important information is stores and is accessible.

Most functionalities are simple to learn how to use.

Last names care linked to matters, so a potential client file may be entered in names prior to being entered a client in the matters feature.

I usually have to pay our computer technician to come to our office when we make big changes regarding integration with other programs, working within our computer network, etc.

Abacuslaw is easy to use (even for lawyers), easy to setup and provides a central case management solution incorporating everything our practice needs from document generation and management, diary/calendar (rules-based features too to help with case workflow), email integration, etc.

Abacus has always done well at the job we purchased it for - printing out a weekly calendar of events for th entire firm.

Our office has a high volume of cases and what I like the best about Abacus Law is the ability to run reports such as the Malpractice Report which allows you to make sure you don't miss an important date.

To be efficient, organized, avoid malpractice, and spend more time billing and less time on admin, a small firm needs legal software like AbacusLaw. When I wanted to add staff, the Abacus Private Cloud let all of my team utilize the AbacusLaw software with ease, from home and from other states where I am also licensed. And when COVID-19 hit, it was the AbacusLaw software and the Abacus Private Cloud that let us continue work uninterrupted, serving clients and not having to lay off a single person.

Great organization of case information integrating every thing about a client into one location.

The thing I dislike the most about AbacusLaw is the creating of new reports takes more computer knowledge then it should.

The "medical providers" tab only has ten slots to input treating providers, and it is prohibitively expensive to pay to add another tab (perhaps the system is designed that way intentionally to generate additional revenue).

I also like having the ability to clone entries rather than entering the information again.

when leaving contact fields open and searching for a contact on the "show only open cases" setting it likes to revert and have all my contacts EVER put in the system which makes it very hard to find what I am looking for sometimes.

The cloud functionality does not work, the billing program glitches.

We depend on the calendaring feature for our day to day needs.

Being able to run reports and maintaining a contact database.

I like never having to enter a case number more than one time - once it's entered, it's always there and does NOT need to be proofed.  

We need to store a lost of data related to the health care sector.

Solo lawyer

Abacus may have that for its cloud product, but the cost difference made me lose interets.  

We also like the group calendar that allows us to color-code each attorney making it easy to determine who is where.  

We have a lot of data stored and its helpful when you need to go back and look up old cases

I like the calendar and names/matters features - this makes it easy to link a client to various other people involved in their case, and make sure that we can stay on top of deadlines.

Overall it is a good product for scheduling and reminders for upcoming briefs.

It can only link to one person or file at a time.

The timer under Notes is my favorite feature because it makes it easier to keep track of how long I have been working on a task and bill accordingly.  

It helps with everyday notes of our clients,great for using calendar and keep up with appointments.

I wish there was a way to export billing data to Quickbooks.

It's user friendly which helps since I have a lot of calendaring to do each day.

We are now being charged $750 to get our data out after we switched.

It was easy to learn without a lot of training.

Features that they promise are part of the software are often not fully or properly functional, or the support staff seems to have no idea how they actually work.   When trying to work with WordPerfect integration, for example, they did not seem to have any tech support personnel who actually knew how to use the program or how it was supposed to integrate and could not answer questions about it, so we were on our own.
