Our commitment
Independent research methodology
Our researchers use a mix of verified reviews, independent research, and objective methodologies to bring you selection and ranking information you can trust. While we may earn a referral fee when you visit a provider through our links or speak to an advisor, this has no influence on our research or methodology.
Verified user reviews
GetApp maintains a proprietary database of millions of in-depth, verified user reviews across thousands of products in hundreds of software categories. Our data scientists apply advanced modeling techniques to identify key insights about products based on those reviews. We may also share aggregated ratings and select excerpts from those reviews throughout our site.
Our human moderators verify that reviewers are real people and that reviews are authentic. They use leading tech to analyze text quality and to detect plagiarism and generative AI.
How GetApp ensures transparency
GetApp lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. GetApp is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider’s website.

Fast Video Cataloger overview
What is Fast Video Cataloger?
Fast Video Cataloger is a Windows 64-bit desktop application for cataloging, searching and managing large local video libraries.
How it works
It scans the folders you nominate and extracts a visual thumbnail timeline plus technical and embedded metadata for every clip. Catalogs are held in a local database, so search is instant and works offline. Indexing is non-destructive — the catalog references your files in place and does not re-encode them. Drives can be disconnected and their contents remain fully searchable and browsable. An optional File Organizer can move and rename files into a structure you define, on your own storage, when you choose to run it.
Search and metadata
• Full-text search across filenames, keywords, descriptions and transcripts
• Hierarchical keywords, scene-level keywords and custom metadata fields
• Embedded XMP and container metadata read and indexed from your files
• Keyword tags written back into the video files themselves as Windows tags, so they travel with the file and stay visible to Explorer and other tools
• Duplicate and similar-clip detection
• Saved searches and filtering on any indexed property
On-device AI
• Face recognition — train on a few images, then find every clip a person appears in
• Speech-to-text transcription with searchable transcripts and click-to-jump playback
• Automatic scene classification and object detection with an adjustable confidence threshold
All models run locally on your own hardware. No footage or audio leaves the machine, and there are no per-minute processing fees.
Formats and playback
Built-in codec support covers the common editing and delivery formats. Blackmagic RAW (.braw) is supported natively — indexed and played without transcoding. The integrated player supports frame-stepping and plays directly from any thumbnail.
Extensibility and integrations
• C# scripting API with full access to the catalog; documentation and working samples ship with the product
• Plugin architecture
• Export to editing timelines via FCP7-XML
• Built-in HTTP server so a team can browse, search and tag the same catalog from any browser on the local network
Security and deployment
On-premise only. There is no cloud component, and all indexing and AI analysis happens locally — no footage or audio is ever uploaded or processed off-device. Your catalog and your media stay on hardware you control, which suits confidential, embargoed and client-sensitive material.
Track record
In continuous development since 2010, with regular releases throughout. The full version history and complete documentation are public, so the release cadence can be checked before you commit to a licence.
Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. One-time perpetual licence or subscription, both with a free trial.
