Our commitment
Independent research methodology
Our researchers use a mix of verified reviews, independent research, and objective methodologies to bring you selection and ranking information you can trust. While we may earn a referral fee when you visit a provider through our links or speak to an advisor, this has no influence on our research or methodology.
Verified user reviews
GetApp maintains a proprietary database of millions of in-depth, verified user reviews across thousands of products in hundreds of software categories. Our data scientists apply advanced modeling techniques to identify key insights about products based on those reviews. We may also share aggregated ratings and select excerpts from those reviews throughout our site.
Our human moderators verify that reviewers are real people and that reviews are authentic. They use leading tech to analyze text quality and to detect plagiarism and generative AI.
How GetApp ensures transparency
GetApp lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. GetApp is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider’s website.

BlurData overview
What is BlurData?
BlurData is a desktop application for macOS that performs redaction and pseudonymization of personally identifiable information within PDFs, scanned documents and screenshots. It operates entirely offline without requiring file uploads to external services. It is designed for professionals in legal, healthcare, development and support roles who handle sensitive documents subject to data privacy regulations such as the general data protection regulation and the health insurance portability and accountability act. The offline processing model ensures that confidential information remains on the local device throughout the redaction workflow.
The software automatically identifies a range of built-in data types, including email addresses, personal names, physical addresses, internet protocol addresses, uniform resource locators, monetary values, account numbers with international bank account number support and vehicle license plate numbers. Users can define unlimited custom pattern matching rules for internal case numbers, application programming interface keys, ticket references or proprietary codes. Two processing modes are available. Traditional redaction permanently removes selected data by deleting text from the file structure rather than overlaying it. Pseudonymization replaces sensitive information with consistent labels such as PERSON ONE or AMOUNT TWO across multi-page documents while maintaining a reversible mapping key on the local device.
The interface offers granular control with category-level toggles, individual match removal and freehand selection for arbitrary regions. Double-clicking a word removes all occurrences within the current document or configures a permanent rule for future files. Batch processing enables the simultaneous redaction of entire folders. Optical character recognition with automatic language detection supports fifteen languages including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese in both simplified and traditional scripts, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai and Arabic. Barcode and quick response code detection accommodates common formats such as code one hundred twenty-eight, PDF four one seven, Aztec and Swiss QR bills along with their printed representations.
The application is a self-contained tool that requires no external account or third-party subscriptions and relies on the operating system for text recognition and language processing. Exported files contain truly redacted content so that covered data is removed from the underlying file and cannot be restored. A verification feature scans redacted documents for residual hidden text without transmitting files off the device. The software is compatible with Intel and Apple Silicon architectures and requires macOS Ventura or a more recent release.
