Evaluat overview
What is Evaluat?
Evaluat is a real-browser performance testing platform. Every virtual user in an Evaluat test runs in its own isolated browser instance; a full browser with its own memory, CPU, cache, cookies, and network stack. Nothing is shared between users, so the contention you measure is the contention your customers will hit.
Why real browsers:
Traditional load testing tools operate at the HTTP layer. They send raw requests and measure how fast the server responds. They don't parse HTML, execute JavaScript, render CSS, or run third-party tags. That's fine for an API. For a user-facing application, it answers the wrong question.
A 50ms TTFB doesn't help if your LCP image takes 4 seconds because three analytics tags are blocking the main thread at 800 concurrent users. Evaluat measures what the browser measures, because Evaluat is running browsers.
What's in a report:
Every performance test produces five views:
Overview: aggregate metrics across the run. Total users, total sessions, failed sessions, error rates, and percentile-selectable time-series charts for every Web Vitals.
URL Performance: every URL hit during the test, with its own Web Vitals, hit count, status distribution, and full timing breakdown (DNS lookup, TTFB, FCP, LCP, CLS, INP, page load).
Sessions: every virtual user's session is individually addressable. Video recording, step-by-step playback with the CSS selector targeted at each step, scenario context, duration, network bytes transferred, pass/fail status.
Console Logs: every browser console message from the run, deduplicated with counts, attributed to the page URL that produced it. Errors, warnings, traces, JavaScript exceptions, resource load failures.
Network Logs: every HTTP request from every user. Method, URL, status, timing, size, MIME type, originating page. Filterable and sortable across millions of rows.
Metrics captured:
Core Web Vitals: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Interaction to Next Paint (INP), Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), First Contentful Paint (FCP).
Navigation Timing API: DNS lookup, TCP connect, TLS negotiation, Time to First Byte (TTFB), response time, DOM content loaded, page load.
All metrics available at p50, p75, p90, p95, p99, and max; per run, per URL, and per session.
How tests are built:
Test Scenarios: reusable recordings of a user journey. Navigate, click, fill, wait. Each step targets a CSS selector and reports pass/fail at runtime. Scenarios are decoupled from tests, so one scenario runs in a 1,000-user load test, a deployment smoke test, and a scheduled monitor.
Datasets: tables of variable data injected into scenarios at runtime. 1,000 users drawing from 1,000 rows means 1,000 different UTM combinations, search terms, or product IDs. Prevents cache effects from masking real performance problems.
Popup Handlers: project-level rules that dismiss cookie banners, consent dialogs, and modals automatically across every scenario. Define once, apply everywhere. Your scenarios stay focused on the journey.
Test Plans: combine scenarios with weighted distribution (must total 100%), set the load shape, and run.
Configuration:
Load mode: Duration (target concurrency for a set time) or Sessions (run until N sessions complete).
Traffic shape: independent ramp-up, steady-state, and ramp-down durations. Minimum ramp rates enforced to keep load realistic.
Region: choose where your virtual users originate.
Timezone and locale: match the audience segment you're modelling.
Screen size: from mobile through to 1920×1080 and above.
Speed: configurable wait times between actions to model real user pacing rather than bot-speed clicking.
What Evaluat doesn't do:
No API testing. No gRPC, WebSocket, or MQTT protocol testing. Evaluat tests user-facing applications with real browsers. If you need API load testing, k6 or JMeter are a better fit; most teams run both.
