MedAligna is a cloud staff-scheduling system built only for healthcare: clinics, home care agencies, long-term care facilities and small physician groups. It runs in the browser on any device, with a mobile view for staff; there is nothing to install.

Rules engine

Every assignment, claim and swap is evaluated against the same rule set, twice: in the browser for a live conflict preview, and again inside the database under a row lock at the moment of the write. That second check is what stops two nurses who tap "claim" in the same second from both winning the seat. The rules: credential and licence expiry (a lapsed licence blocks the assignment), federal exclusion (OIG) screening, nurse-to-patient ratio, acuity and hours-per-resident-day, rest gap between shifts, overtime, approved time off, and role or unit eligibility.

Time handling

All durations are computed on instants, not wall-clock arithmetic, with the location or service time zone as the authority. A 19:00 to 07:00 night is 11 hours on the spring-forward night and 13 on fall-back, and the payroll export shows the same number the schedule does.

Scheduling

Schedule builder with drag and drop, rotation patterns, automatic schedule generation (Pro), self-scheduling windows, open-shift claiming, swap proposals with approval, time-off requests, on-call rotations with a public on-call board and an escalation chain, home-care visit and run scheduling, printable and PDF weeks, and calendar sync to Google, Outlook and Apple.

Time, attendance and exports

Clock in and out with punch corrections, timesheets, and payroll-ready exports for Gusto, ADP, QuickBooks and Paychex, plus the CMS Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ) file. MedAligna exports hours; it does not calculate pay, withhold or file taxes.

Integration and security

REST API with organisation-scoped keys and signed outbound webhooks (Enterprise). Row-level security is the tenancy boundary in the database, so every table is scoped to the organisation by policy. Pay rates are readable only by owners and admins. The product holds no patient data at all.
