Independent research methodology
Our researchers use a mix of verified reviews, independent research, and objective methodologies to bring you selection and ranking information you can trust. While we may earn a referral fee when you visit a provider through our links or speak to an advisor, this has no influence on our research or methodology.
Verified user reviews
GetApp maintains a proprietary database of millions of in-depth, verified user reviews across thousands of products in hundreds of software categories. Our data scientists apply advanced modeling techniques to identify key insights about products based on those reviews. We may also share aggregated ratings and select excerpts from those reviews throughout our site.
Our human moderators verify that reviewers are real people and that reviews are authentic. They use leading tech to analyze text quality and to detect plagiarism and generative AI.
How GetApp ensures transparency
GetApp lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. GetApp is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider’s website.

NotchLive overview
What is NotchLive?
NotchLive is a macOS application that provides real time captioning and translation through on-device speech-to-text transcription. The application captures both system audio and microphone input using macOS ScreenCaptureKit and converts speech to text with Whisper AI models deployed via CoreML. Captions appear in the MacBook notch or in a top-center bar on models without a notch to maintain sightline consistency. The synchronous operation of tiny, small, medium, large, and large turbo models allows users to balance transcription speed and accuracy without interruption.
The Pro edition adds live translation into twenty languages by leveraging Apple Translation. Session recording preserves raw transcripts with export options for TXT, Markdown, and JSON. Voice Notes employs AI cleanup to transform dictated speech into structured text that can be stored locally or transferred to a companion notetaking application. Meeting Intelligence processes caption streams on Apple Silicon hardware to identify focus topics, key points, open questions, and action items and generates summaries for later review. Ghost Mode conceals the caption interface during screen sharing or recordings while maintaining active transcription. Global keyboard shortcuts facilitate control of features and Experimental Sign Cues display visual indicators for questions, speaker transitions, and action items.
The application is distributed outside the Mac App Store and requires macOS fourteen or later. Apple Silicon is recommended for optimal performance while Intel-based systems remain supported. An internet connection is required only for initial model and language pack downloads, after which all processing remains local. The architecture omits user accounts, cloud audio processing, and external transcript storage to ensure privacy of sensitive content.
Licensing options include a free edition with unlimited captioning, full access to all Whisper AI models, system audio and microphone capture, and global hotkeys. The Pro edition is available as a one-time purchase and adds live translation, voice notes with AI cleanup, a searchable notes library, session recording, history, and transcript export. Team Packs provide shared licensing keys for five, ten, or twenty-five Macs under a single activation. The local-processing focus keeps all audio and transcript data on the user’s device.
