Open Experience overview

What is Open Experience?

Bau-Mängel is a construction defect management solution designed to streamline the documentation, assignment, monitoring and resolution of defects throughout the building lifecycle. The platform supports the complex requirements of project managers, site supervisors, architects, general contractors and subcontractors by providing a unified system for defect-related data. It aligns with German construction standards and contractual obligations to maintain legal and regulatory compliance during both construction and warranty phases.

The software offers mobile-first functionality that enables onsite defect capture via smartphones or tablets. Photographs can be annotated and linked to precise locations on digital building plans within seconds. An artificial intelligence engine trained on more than two hundred thousand real site images identifies defect types and generates structured entries for user review, supplementation and assignment. An offline mode ensures uninterrupted documentation in areas with limited connectivity. Customizable document templates and configurable escalation levels support multiple defect categories, while automated generation of acceptance reports, defect lists and formal defect notices occurs at the touch of a button. A deadline tracking feature monitors each defect notification, issues reminders, escalates unresolved items and prepares follow-up demands when deadlines elapse. Subcontractors access the system at no cost to submit clearance confirmations with photographic evidence.

Integration capabilities extend the platform’s versatility through a dedicated application for Microsoft Teams, synchronization with plan servers and project room platforms, data import from spreadsheet formats and an application programming interface for bespoke connections. Compatibility across major web browsers and native apps for Apple and Android devices ensures broad accessibility. Real-time synchronization maintains data consistency across onsite and office environments.

Data security measures include hosting on German servers, encrypted transmission, personalized access controls, compliance with data protection regulations and redundant storage with regular backups. Customization options allow organizations to apply corporate branding to reports, define bespoke defect types and form fields and tailor text templates for generated documents. A cost management component records expenses per defect or task, aggregates contractor costs and produces comprehensive cost overviews. External access accounts with limited visibility enable clients to review designated defects, conduct independent inspections and confirm or reject clearance notifications within a controlled numbering system.
