Our commitment
Independent research methodology
Our researchers use a mix of verified reviews, independent research, and objective methodologies to bring you selection and ranking information you can trust. While we may earn a referral fee when you visit a provider through our links or speak to an advisor, this has no influence on our research or methodology.
Verified user reviews
GetApp maintains a proprietary database of millions of in-depth, verified user reviews across thousands of products in hundreds of software categories. Our data scientists apply advanced modeling techniques to identify key insights about products based on those reviews. We may also share aggregated ratings and select excerpts from those reviews throughout our site.
Our human moderators verify that reviewers are real people and that reviews are authentic. They use leading tech to analyze text quality and to detect plagiarism and generative AI.
How GetApp ensures transparency
GetApp lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. GetApp is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider’s website.

Oxid VM overview
What is Oxid VM?
Oxid VM is a virtualization and containerization application designed as an alternative to Docker Desktop for Apple Silicon Mac environments. The software enables the execution of Linux, macOS and Windows eleven on Arm guest operating systems within a single macOS application while providing integrated Docker command-line interface functionality and single-node Kubernetes support. Oxid VM is built natively for the arm sixty-four architecture. The software addresses the requirements of developers, DevOps engineers and technical professionals seeking unified virtual machine management and container orchestration on Apple Silicon hardware.
The application offers eight ready-made operating system templates including Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch, Alpine, NixOS, macOS on Apple Silicon hosts and Windows eleven on Arm. Linux and macOS guests operate on Apple Virtualization, the native framework included with macOS. Windows eleven on Arm runs via a bundled, digitally signed helper component because the Apple framework does not support it directly. The Docker command-line interface is pre-configured and connected to guest environments automatically at boot, eliminating the need for a separate container runtime installation. Single-node Kubernetes clusters can be enabled through k three s and the kubectl tool is merged into existing kubeconfig files instead of replacing them.
A sandbox feature supports AI coding agents through the Model Context Protocol. Agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Visual Studio Code can clone stopped virtual machines, execute code in isolated copies and destroy those environments automatically. Sandboxes operate without network access unless requested and include hard expiry timers that persist after agent failures. These isolated environments cannot access existing virtual machines, containers or host file systems.
Guest integration includes shared folders, shared clipboard functionality and drag-and-drop capabilities between host and guest systems on Linux and macOS. A command-line interface reads log files directly to maintain operability when the graphical interface fails to launch. Bundled command-line tools receive signed updates through a verified delivery channel. System requirements include macOS fourteen Sonoma or later running on Apple Silicon processors such as M one or newer. The application requires at least eight gigabytes of RAM with sixteen gigabytes recommended for Kubernetes workloads. Windows guests require a user-supplied Windows eleven Arm sixty-four ISO and approximately forty gigabytes of free storage. Windows virtual machines lack TPM support and provide only two-dimensional display drivers without DirectX or GPU acceleration. Activation of Windows guests depends on user-provided license keys. Oxid VM operates exclusively on Apple Silicon hardware and does not support Intel-based Mac computers.
