Power BI Connector for SAP is a managed integration layer that delivers SAP data to Microsoft Power BI through reusable OData data sources. It replaces custom extractors, staging databases, and separately maintained ETL pipelines with a connector deployed in the customer’s SAP Business Technology Platform environment.

The connector supports SAP S/4HANA On-Premise, Private Cloud, and Public Cloud. On-premise and Private Cloud systems connect through SAP Cloud Connector, while Public Cloud uses standard SAP Communication Arrangements. SAP ECC, SAP BW, BW/4HANA, and similar environments can also be connected when compatible OData services are available. Metrica validates these configurations individually before deployment.

Administrators and analysts can select one or more SAP OData services, choose the required entities and fields, apply source-side row filters, and preview the resulting data before publishing it. Filters can be created visually or defined using advanced OData expressions, with validation to identify configuration errors. Multiple services can be combined in one data source, with their entities delivered to Power BI as separate tables through a single endpoint.

Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service connect to each published data source using a standard OData URL and a personal access token. The connector works with scheduled and incremental Power BI refreshes, helping teams process large datasets without performing a complete reload during every refresh.

The connector uses read-only access and does not write information back to SAP or require an intermediate data store. Data sources can be shared without exposing the owner’s authentication token, while individual tokens remain traceable and revocable. Audit logs record data source changes, token events, and Power BI exports with user, timestamp, and before-and-after details.

Enterprise deployment options include SAML authentication and separate production and non-production environments.
