Prisma Compute overview

What is Prisma Compute?

Prisma Compute is a cloud-based hosting platform for TypeScript applications, APIs, and AI agents, generally available since August 2026. Applications run as long-lived Bun processes on bare-metal infrastructure alongside Prisma Postgres, eliminating the cross-vendor network hop and delivering single-digit millisecond query latency between the application and database layers. Deployment is triggered by a git push via GitHub Actions (prisma/cloud-deploy-action) or the CLI (npx prisma deploy), and a Management API (/v1/apps, /v1/deployments, /v1/builds) supports CI pipelines and agent-driven workflows. Deployments are versioned and immutable, each assigned a preview URL, with rollback available by promoting any prior version. Custom domain support is included for production services.

Every Git branch and pull request receives a fully isolated environment: a dedicated application instance and a dedicated database branched from production, with no shared test database. Long-running workload types, including WebSockets, cron jobs, and background jobs, are declared directly in prisma.config.ts without requiring external schedulers. S3-compatible object storage is built into the project and managed from the same console and API. The platform scales to zero when idle, with usage-based billing across requests, provisioned memory, active CPU, and outbound bandwidth. Spend limits are available on every paid plan. Compliance coverage includes GDPR on all paid plans, HIPAA on Pro and above, and SOC 2 and ISO 27001 at the Business tier.

Prisma Compute supports Node.js, Bun, and Next.js TypeScript services, with or without Prisma ORM. AI agent hosting is a first-class use case: long-lived processes, streaming responses, and durable application data run on the same platform, and the CLI's machine-readable JSON output (--json flag) allows coding agents such as Claude, Codex, and Composer to drive the full build-deploy-log-fix-redeploy loop without switching tools. MCP server support enables agent sign-in and interaction. The Prisma schema functions as a machine-readable contract shared across ORM, database, and hosting layers. Target users range from individual TypeScript developers to engineering teams at organizations including Lush, Rapha, and Elsevier.
