Stagewise overview

What is Stagewise?

Stagewise is an open-source agentic IDE that runs as a desktop application on macOS, Windows, and Linux. AI coding agents read, write, and modify files across connected project workspaces, operating from live application state rather than static prompts. A built-in full browser engine lets agents preview running UIs, select DOM elements as direct context, and browse while work continues in parallel. The model-agnostic agent harness connects to any inference provider supporting the OpenAI Chat Completions API, OpenResponses API, or Anthropic Messages API, including frontier models such as Claude, GPT, and Gemini; open-weight models including DeepSeek, Qwen, GLM, Kimi, and MiniMax; and locally hosted models via Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM, and Llama.cpp. Enterprise teams can connect Azure Foundry, AWS Bedrock, and Google Vertex endpoints, or deploy fully on-premises. The codebase is fully auditable under the AGPLv3 license, and users can self-host or build from source.

Stagewise targets software engineers, solo founders, product managers, and enterprise development teams working on production codebases. Multi-workspace support allows agents to operate across a full stack simultaneously, with parallel agent orchestration enabling multiple agents to implement features or fix bugs independently at the same time. Context management is handled automatically: stable conversation prefixes maximize cache hit rates, compact state delta updates send only environment changes rather than full context, and automatic compression prunes older conversation turns to maintain a focused working set. A minimum recommended context window of 150k tokens supports long-running tasks. The Learn feature converts in-conversation guidance into reusable SKILL.md files, allowing teams to encode project conventions once and apply them repeatedly. Integrations with Figma, GitHub, Supabase, PostHog, and Vercel extend the platform, and the Agent Interface API supports connections to any external AI agent or service.
