Zemam overview

What is Zemam?

Zemam (زمام), also known as Zemam ERP, is an Arabic-first enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and integrated accounting and inventory management software, developed by Smartly Coded, a Cairo-based software company. It is tailored for small and medium sized enterprises in Egypt and the Middle East. The system serves industries such as retail, wholesale distribution, hospitality, light manufacturing, and multi-location operations. It addresses challenges associated with fragmented sales, inventory, and accounting data that can lead to inconsistencies across business processes.

Zemam is built on a double-entry ledger that ensures balanced journal entries for all financial transactions. The accounting module supports automated bookkeeping, value added tax reporting with post-discount tax calculation, general ledger management, financial period controls, bank reconciliation, and an audit trail. Financial functionality extends to installment plans, check lifecycle management, multi-currency support with dual-currency entries compliant with International Accounting Standard twenty one, and a fixed asset register with depreciation schedules.

The procurement module manages purchase orders, goods receipt, supplier invoices, and returns. Inventory capabilities include support for multiple units of measurement, weighted average cost and first in first out valuation methods, inter-warehouse transfers, stock adjustments, physical inventory counts, and landed cost allocation. Manufacturing features comprise bills of materials, production orders, and costed production execution. The sales and customer relationship management module covers quotations, invoicing, returns, multiple price lists, lead management, sales pipeline tracking, holistic customer views, and delivery with cash-on-delivery collection. A desktop point of sale application operates offline in retail and hospitality environments and synchronizes automatically upon reconnection. Customer loyalty points can be accrued and redeemed through transactions. Human resources and payroll features include employee records, payroll processing, leave management, and mobile-based attendance tracking with location verification. An artificial intelligence assistant connects to live business data via external language model integration and enables natural language queries against sales, inventory, and profitability data. A notification engine delivers role-based alerts through in-application notifications, email, and messaging channels based on configurable business event rules.

Zemam operates across three synchronized applications that share a single ledger and dataset. The web-based application provides full accounting, reporting, and multi-location management. The mobile application supports sales representatives and managers with order approval and remote operations. The desktop point of sale system functions offline and synchronizes data when connectivity is restored. Role-based permissions control access to functionality and approval workflows can be applied to transactions. All financial changes are recorded in a complete audit log with details of who made each modification and when it occurred. Data security is provided through encrypted connections, automatic backups, and a multi-tenant architecture that isolates each company's information. The platform integrates with the Egyptian Tax Authority electronic invoicing system in test and production environments, and it provides a public application programming interface with webhooks and API keys for third-party integrations.
