Pros

I used this majority of my way in high school, college and now the post graduate work like. It’s so easy to navigate and I LOVE IT I share documents with my colleges ans co workers it’s amazing.
Super easy to use since it's just like Microsoft Office. Great if your device doesn't have Office and you need to use the same platforms.
I love how easy it is to use and how file sharing is super integrated. The quality for the cost of the product is super.

Pros

I love the integrated templates that help me quickly launch new projects or tasks. Also I can easily integrate information coming from my computer, internet or other apps, It just an amazing idea.
Organizing notes or dashboard is super easy and fun. The feature of creating a note into another note then linking it to a line in a note is really helpful and it helps you make wonder.
This is great for a shared list for people to have visibility on. It was great for our team to see what everyone was doing, add comments and notes to each other.

Cons

Some options are missing from it, but that is to be expected from a web-based app. The only thing I dislike is how hard it is to open the documents generated in Google Docs through other software.
The downside of this is that someone can edit the document as you are presenting and mess with your presentation or confuse your line of thoughts.
The icons are small and it's easy to accidentally press the wrong button or hit the wrong combination of keystrokes and change the menu into tiny icons with no explanations.

Cons

The offline mode for Notion is frankly quite bad as you have to preload the pages when you have internet beforehand. Otherwise, your notes would be inaccessible.
Now that we use Notion, we're much more organized. The last program we used was boycotted by nearly half the team because of how difficult it was to navigate.
Notion changed my perception about the note taking apps. I use Notion mostly for organize my notes, preventing them from turning into mess.

Google Docs

The easiest way to collaborate with documents

Reviewed 4 years ago

It's so easy to create and share a document and being free and connected to your google account everybody can access to it.

Pros

It's so easy to create, share and collaborate on a document. All you have to do it create a new doc and share it and you are ready to start.

Cons

The functionalities are somehow limited if compared to microsoft word or other tools, like Notion that are used to manage KB and more structured information.

Notion and other tools are catching up!

Reviewed 8 months ago
Pros

Google Docs is easy, it's available and it's largely free. The transferability of content and links to the rest of the Google Suite is a huge plus.

Cons

Please make linking within documents easier. Notion does it. Slack does it. Why are you still forcing people to use shortcuts or the drop-down menu. It's a pain.

Google Docs

Easiest document management platform

Reviewed 3 years ago

When I first moved from MS Word to G Docs, I was blown away by the simplicity. I still rely on G Docs for a lot of old projects but tools like Notion are giving a good fight to Google in this space.

Pros

Can create and edit documents within a few minutes. Much more capable than MS Word and the ability to edit real-time with your colleagues is such a blessing!

Cons

Creates multiple copies when you add an MS Word file. The embed option of G Sheets is not up to the expectations. Templates provided by Google are insufficient, I've hardly used them.

Google Docs

Already an old-school tool

Reviewed 4 years ago

It's okay to write down notes and to work with others on different documents, but it's somewhat cumbersome and unintuitive and you will soon discover some features are missing. Google is losing on this front to other companies in the space and doesn't seem to be catching up. Maybe we will see M&A in this field soon, like what we saw with Salesforce and Quip.

Pros

Google Docs is free to use unless using G Suite so that is always nice, but other than the "free" aspect of this tool, there isn't much to like anymore.

Cons

Google Docs used to be revolutionary back in the day, but it's no longer innovative. It's basically Word on a cloud, but with less features. Quip or Notion are better alternatives if you really want more than just a text editor in cloud.

Google Docs: Documentation for your expanding team

Reviewed a year ago
Pros

It is one of the best tools for individuals to start documenting for their clarity of thought. The barrier to start documenting is very low. You can just type in "docs.new" in the URL bar to get started. Very easy to collaborate with others, asynchronously chat and form an enhanced version of the doc on the go. Version control feature is great too in case there are any mistakes.

Cons

While it is great for individuals to document, it is not so great for teams to have it as a knowledge best to disseminate its tribal knowledge or best practices or team culture etc. Something that you would want for any new hires to get a grasp on very quickly. Notion and Atlassian are much better in the document organisation bit. Similarly you cannot draw block diagrams. Neither can you in Notion. You often have to rely on 3rd party vendor, "draw.io" when documenting schema designs, etc. Atlassian is your go-to tool for such requirements.

Google needs to significantly up their game if they want devs to use Google Docs

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

The thing i like about Google Docs is that it is very much integrated with Drive and widely used across teams and the business world. Thats it.

Cons

The places where Google Docs does not let me excel is designing document that I can use to plan my development work. There are other products that excel in that area such as Dropbox's Paper or even Notion which have gone far ahead of Google Docs.

Best in the segment

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

I think the simplicity of using Docs with the entire team makes it super powerful. It's super simple to track the activity and work together on the same document. I'd also like to mention the option of using 'Add-ons' which is definitely helpful.

Cons

Sometimes it gets boring to read the plain simple document. That's where other tools like Notion got an extra edge of using things like emojis and easily embedding the URLs/media. I'd suggest Google Docs add more templates and help users in using more shortcuts frequently.

Great All Purpose Document Editor

Reviewed 3 years ago

Ultimately my experiences with Google docs have been great. It is a barebones, document editor. Though it does not have the bells and whistles or appeal that something newer like notion and dropbox pages have, it does have the following going for it: 1. Google docs is a great alternative to Microsoft word 2. Free document editor 3. Online and offline 4. You can save your document online and it is...

Pros

Top Benefits of Google Docs: 1. It's free 2. It's easy to use 3. It's fast 4. It's available anywhere 5. Easy collaboration 6. Collaborate with anyone on your team or otherwise 7. Google docs is always available and up-to-date 8. It is very easy to share documents

Cons

I wish it had markdown functionality built-in. However, you can install an add-on for this functionality.

Documentation in a single place

Reviewed 3 years ago

We've been using Google Drive to store our documentation but it's not enough for documenting product. The usability of notion is better than Google Docs to write documentation. It's easy to import Google Docs documents as well so we could move many things there easily.

Pros

For a long time we have missed a place where we can record all relevant information and document the business processes of the company. We have found in Notion the tool to unify the documentation of the product and although it is difficult for us to move everything there, we believe that it is the way to scale. It's easy to use and share!

Cons

Not so much experience to say something bad. We started to use Notion this year so for now we only have seen the benefits.

Better than Google Docs or Quip

Reviewed 4 years ago

We are having a good experience. One of the reasons why we have moved away from Google Docs is because of tagging. Google Docs is already out of date and old, Notion is closer to where the future is.

Pros

It's simple to use and has everything we need for project management in our team. We can easily create lists of any kind, share documents and work in real-time.

Cons

It would be good if we could see history of edits or if it was visually highlighted. Email notifications are great, but sometimes it's easy to get lost in the docs with new updates. But perhaps this feature is there, we just need to find it.

Note taking app with where you can do much more than note taking

Reviewed a year ago

Love the overall experience, works as it is supposed to be. I've shifted from Google docs to notion.

Pros

1. Support for creating public webpages, which look like a proper webistes with standard template.2. Excellent for embedding videos, music, code and other content which is not supported in Google Docs3. Great for working in teams, you can assign tasks, do planning4. Excellent community that is making very useful things using the public APIs

Cons

1. The structure of how notes are stored in it is like a pyramid. Pages inside pages and you can keep going. Usually when writing notes, a more graphical structure would be very intuitive as a lot of time we cross reference things. This can't be done so easily in Notion. Also, what I don't like is that when I want someone to review a document I've written on Notion, they can't easily add comments to it which happens in google docs very easily. Usually this is very nice for writing company documents, but when writing content which requires reviews, I prefer using google docs.

Notion can eat Google Docs for breakfast

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

Notion is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of document creation. It offers a loose structure that provides an opinion of how things can work, but is overwhelmingly flexible in what users can do. Never before have I so quickly been able to - create docs - integrate them with dates - add external media

Cons

Notion's pricing structure is fair, but it's hard to beat free! Google Docs is only surviving, imo, because so many companies already pay for GSuite.

Effective planning and sharing all in one place

Reviewed 11 days ago

Notion does have a bit of a learning curve (I come from an administrative background so this was easy enough for me to get acquainted with) but the guides on their site make this app useful even for those who are not the most internet savvy.

Pros

Notes, tasks, and projects are all easy to contain and collaborate on while using Notion. Tons of customizations make this better than Google docs or sheets any day!

Cons

It is complicated to use upon starting of you aren't typically someone who organizes through categories or files or even keeps track of details. Yet, this is also the platform that CAN help you get organized!

Much more efficient than Google Docs!

Reviewed 3 years ago

Notion has slowly replaced Google Docs for all my documentation & notetaking tasks. Some features highlighted above are lacking but at the end of the day, it is the best productivity/collaboration platform available.

Pros

Easy to collaborate with your team members. Easy to leverage different types of data points - text, images, tables, etc unlike Google Workspace where G Docs & G Sheets integration isn't so great (embed doesn't really work well).

Cons

The mobile experience isn't as great as Google Docs or other productivity softwares. Onboarding process is a little confusing, spent a lot of time getting used to the tool. A feature to shorten URL will be great, the default URLs are extremely long!

for those who don’t like Google docs

Reviewed 5 months ago
Pros

Notion is a good alternative to Google docs and sheets for note taking and project management. If you’re tired of making sub folder with sub folder on Google drive, Notion can create a series of notes that connect to each other with hyperlinks and tables of contents.

Cons

Note pages in Notion aren’t necessarily the typical 8x11 size. When creating notes with lots of graphics and tables, this can be convenient. But if you need to print something, this won’t work that well.

Does a lot of great things, but can be tough to learn

Reviewed 2 years ago

I personally like it as a tool, but find myself (and other team members) gravitating toward other software that is simpler (such as google docs) because it takes me less time to figure out and learn.

Pros

I love the number of things that notion can do. I also appreciate that it gives the user limited options on certain types of formatting, like text styling and table styling, so that everything always looks good and clean. It works great as a type of "wiki," or knowledge base, for our entire organization to access and contribute to.

Cons

Compared to other text editors, I find that it is difficult to learn. Setting up certain types of documents takes me longer than I think it should. However, once they are set up, they look and work great. I strongly feel that I could benefit from a more formal training on how to use this software in the way it was designed to work.

Great tool for startups

Love using it for product documentation and requirements, as well as a team "home" for onboarding new teammate in the future.

Pros

Instead of disparate Google Docs that no one can seem to keep the links for, Notion houses everything in one area, which is exactly what we needed. Google has issues surfacing relevant search results, and Notion solves that problem. Having one source of truth for an organization is vital.

Cons

My old gripe was that it was terribly difficult to collaborate in Notion, and would actively still use Google suite to do that. Notion just updated their comments to be more easily seen! It's made a big difference in product usage, thank you Notion!

Cons

The Text Editor, when compared to more mature software like Google Docs, still lags behind a bit. I would characterize Notion more as a place where content ends up, rather than where it is initially written down.

I’m in love!

Reviewed 4 years ago

I love Notion, and now am holding classes with my colleagues to teach them how to love it too

Pros

I was very hesitant to use this software after our company implemented it, but now I’m in love! The range of functionality in it is really amazing. I no longer need to use 20 different Google Sheets and Google Docs to track projects with my team. Now I just need a Notion board.

Cons

It was a little confusing to understand at first, and the “relations” function isn’t necessarily intuitive. But once you understand the function it’s extremely helpful.

Notion

Easy Yet Super Powerful

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

Notion is a powerful new type of software that allows you to create wikis, personal to-dos, and more super easily. The templates are really helpful to get started and the overall software is pretty intuitive. There's a lot of organizational capabilities with Notion that other software doesn't have. There is a mobile and desktop app which work just like the web version.

Cons

The 1000 block limit is a little hard to understand what counts at first. There is a learning curve with Notion. It can take some time to get into a rhythm. The import from Google Docs didn't work great.

The brain of our organisation

Reviewed 2 years ago

Love how intuitive Notion is working. It's just a lot more fun than to get lost in a trillion Google Docs, switch between applications, etc. There are basically no limits what a person and an organisation can learn, plan and share via Notion.

Pros

- simplicity - versatility - new features

Cons

Service was sometimes slow in its early days, but these issues haven't been around for 1y+

A Versatile All-in-One Notebook

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

Notion is the Swiss Army knife of productivity tools, featuring advanced composition tools, project/task management tools and information organization tools. It is basically Google Docs, Trello, and Airtable wrapped into one app. It even has great apps for all devices.

Cons

The collaboration tools are paid or are very limited for free users. Education discounts only apply to college students/professors. There is no free-hand drawing/note-taking on tablets yet either.

Flexible and simple

Reviewed 3 years ago

Notion is a nicely designed collaboration tool, but because each of its individual options aren't as fleshed out as alternatives, my team seldom uses Notion. We almost always use the best-in-class options even when Notion might be slightly more convenient.

Pros

Notion lets you do a lot of basic tracking and data and document management all from the same simple interface. It's a lot like Google docs but with a cleaner interface and way fewer clicks required to do what you want.

Cons

Some of Notion's document types don't have the full functionality you need—e.g. their spreadsheets don't compare to Excel or Google Sheets, and their Board template isn't as fleshed out as Trello.

I'm a Notion convert

Reviewed 3 years ago

Notion is a great platform that can be used in a variety of ways. We're moved a ton of content from Google Docs, Dropbox, and our website over to Notion since it's so easy to customize and link to existing content, upload files, and embed images.

Pros

I absolutely LOVE Notion. At first, I was skeptical of adding another program to our mix, especially one that would take the place of using additional pages on our website. It's an incredibly valuable platform for quickly creating landing pages for external members that are easy to customize and keep updated.

Cons

My only complaint is that the website is sometimes down. Since we host so much content on the site, it can really throw a wrench it a workday if the site isn't working.

You don't know you need it until you start using it

Reviewed a year ago

Notion helped me keep everything in one place. I was the kind of person with post-it notes, notebooks, google docs and all sorts of apps open on my desktop. Now I just open Notion and keep everything there, which has made my life a lot simpler.

Pros

If you start using Notion you can't go back. What I love about Notion is that it has some many useful features in one single product. This way you can keep all your work in one single software, which is also incredibly simple to use thanks to its minimal interface.

Cons

I can't think of anything I dislike on Notion. A minor issue I have is creating different columns of text, which is not super intuitive at the beginning.

Notion

User-friendly project management and knowledge doc repository

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

You can use it simply as a glorified Google Docs replacement, but tons of extra features are there to be discovered. Tons of useful integrations, and a streamlined user interface make it a joy to use on desktop. Can be used as a lightweight database.

Cons

Very bad mobile experience that desperately needs an overhaul. Competitors are catching up fast. The extra complexity may not be worth it for many people -- in many cases, a shared Google doc or spreadsheet can work just fine, and Notion just adds extra complexity.

Avec Notion, la personnalisation passe au niveau supérieur.

Reviewed a year ago

The best and worst of Notion

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall it's a great app, I just wish it would be faster and also easier to navigate.

Pros

Notion is an extremely flexible software. Thanks to their databases and multiple views like calendar, Kanban, tables and lists. I found it to be extremely intuitive and fun to use. I can definitely see how it could replace a google docs and be a central place for your team.

Cons

So the big elephant in the room... Notion can be slow at times, especially when using it on my phone. I would spend a lot of effort just trying to switch between pages. When I would type in it I felt that my text was not in real time. Also on Mobile sometimes I couldn't highlight text due to a bug on their side. This goes against the productivity it is trying to create. Also the way it works with folders, it very quickly becomes far too many different places and I would need to think about where I need to put the specific note I'm working on, vs actually just writing the note. I think that it would be far better if notion stopped relying so much on folders and rather just made their search and internal linking more streamlined.

Notion

Flexible, great for knowledge management

Reviewed 3 years ago

Overall I’m very pleased with Notion and it’s ability to serve as a knowledge management system for all my teams documents and resources

Pros

This software is very flexible and allows you to view information in many different ways. After wrestling with google docs for several years as a knowledge repository for my team, Notion has filled the gap beautify and offered a hub for all of our resources and project tracking

Cons

It’s not super intuitive to use when setting it up. If you’re not a whiz with databases you might struggle a bit. Other tools offer a friendlier UI
