Easy enterprise wide document sharing and collaboration for any org that's using GSuite and for smaller teams using personal gmail/google accounts.
Easy to use, and supported by first party clients on every platform work considering. Also, built in support in most Linux desktop envionments.
The usual concerns about privacy of your data in the cloud. Google has been pretty ok in this so far though. Alternatives such as Nextcloud and others address some privacy concerns, but raises the barrier to entry higher than it's worth for most individuals or smaller teams.

The best thing about Drive is its cheap pricing and tight integration with other apps. However, without those, there are much better cloud solutions available for both individuals and enterprises. If you're still wary about security when it comes to Google, I'd recommend using NextCloud paired with your own hosting solutions that you trust.
Drive works well with other Google apps, storing all sorts of documents in it. It is provides good integration with other third-party apps, such as ZipBooks and Whatsapp, making it very reliable. It offers a very substantial storage for free, as well as a sufficiently large store solution for enterprises on the cheap. It also offers good encryption for those files.
I would call it a Dropbox competitor if it wasn't for the fact that Drive distinctly lacks Linux support, instead requiring third-party solutions to work with it -- something that has never been a problem with something like SpiderOak, which I highly recommend. If running on Linux, most of the files, then, need to be transferred via browser tabs, which is tedious if there's a large number of files to keep track of.

Google Drive is very easy to use and of course the big advantage is that most people (or at least, most people I deal with) already have a Google account. Therefore, Google Drive is my go to cloud storage solution when I need to collaborate with outside expertise or customers. (In house, Nextcloud is my default cloud storage.)
The online editors (Docs et al) can be tempting when you need to make a quick change on the go, but can seriously mess up your documents. Also, using Google as a business doesn't project the most professional image.

Replacement of Google Drive and Google Photos.
Open source Free Easy installation on FreeNAS
Low mobile apps quality (cannot upload photos (and cleanup) without downloading it back on iOS, etc) Intermittent bugs (share by link doesn't work in web interface, have to use mobile app) Not very smart integration with Gallery (expect something like Google Photos)
Thank you a lot for sharing your experience with Nextcloud! It helps us to improve.

The great community behind the product, and of course supporting FOSS.
Immaturity of inline office suite functionality. That is a major disadvantage when comparing to OneDrive, Google Drive, and others.

Wirklich durwegs positiv.

We use Nextcloud for filesharing and storage and it's a good self-0hosted alternative to things like Google Drive or OneDrive.
It's got a nice sync functionality that works well and is unobtrusive. you can have file structures on your computer that automatically sync with the server, and it's easy to create sharable links.
Sometimes setting up what syncs is a bit cumbersome.

It's a great piece of open source software with a ton of functionality. It is a great alternative to platforms like Google Drive or OneDrive.
NextCloud is very easy to set up and allows a great amount of customization. There are a ton of apps available to add to your configuration so you can set it up just the way that works for you. You can integrate Nextcloud login with your own website using OAuth. The customization is almost endless so you can set it up just how you like it.
The pricing can become complicated and quite expensive when using Nextcloud with some paid apps. Other than that I can't really complain about the functionality of the software, it has everything it should have.

Nextcloud has all the features that our clients look for in public offerings like Google Drive and Dropbox, with the advantage of privacy and customization.
Updates need to be carefully monitored to avoid crashes.

Data resides on your own server or cloud provider

We are using NextCloud to mimic Google drive company wide. We are using object store on top of it. This is very efficient and powerful. We are definitely delighted by the product !
NextCloud is ideal if you would like to share data across multiple region. Simple to setup, easy to use and administer.
It just came as a fork of ownCloud, this is hard to decide wether to go with ownCloud or NextCloud
Dear user, Thank you for the review on Capterra! We're very glad you are happy with Nextcloud! If you want to get the most out of Nextcloud, don't forget we have Nextcloud Subscriptions available. That improves much on the community help aimed at home users like you'll find on the forums and gives access to additional documentation and capabilities like our Outlook integration, Global Scale for higher scaelability, lower cost and data locality control and more. Take care!

I had a pleasant experience with the software, but it's not for me and doesn't live up to my expectations of such a software.
It's easy to use, setup, and maintain functional file sharing and backup systems effectively... It's good for that.
It lacks a lot of the selling points of alternative options for this purpose, such as MEGASync, Google Drive, Dropbox, and similar services. I could not rely solely on Nextcloud without some of my needs going unmet.

NextCloud has done exactly what we've needed it to: provided an easy, open source way to run our own private cloud for storage of data we don't want to put in Google Drive. Easy to use, great desktop apps, lots of functionality (near parity with other cloud apps). It does what we need it to do, and I haven't had any issues with it.
The ease of deployment of NextCloud (I'm using a Snap container) is ridiculously easy. The interface for a free and open source app is amazing! I love the ability to customize the login screen and it integrates well with Active Directory. It's easy to setup once installed as well. The Windows and Mac apps work like a champ.
Some of the functionality I'm used to in OneDrive or Google Drive (right-clicks and other minor UI issues) doesn't exist in NC. It's a mostly Web 2.0 app, but a few changes would make it almost perfect.

Centralization of my files and documents, ease of management and use, and desktop/mobile clients for every platform that I use (Windows, Mac, iOS). Additionally, it's completely free and does all the things that I need it to do.
I've been using Nextcloud as a replacement for Google Drive and Google Docs for the last four or five years. It has a ton of really great apps that I can install that can replicate popular Google services. For instance, I can use the Nextcloud desktop and mobile sync clients to have Google Drive like functionality. I can install a calendar app that gives me Google Calender functionality. There are...
The biggest con for me with this application is it never upgrades properly. I use a third party hosting provider called Dreamhost, and whenever I attempt to do an automatic or manual upgrade to my Nextcloud instance, I end up breaking it and have to rebuild it from scratch. I don't know if this is due to something on my hosting provider's end, but every single time I've attempted to do an upgrade it has failed. Additionally, community support can sometimes be lacking. Since this is an open source product, you have to rely on a lot of forum posts and blog entries to find solutions to your problems. Sometiems that can be frustrating.
Dear user, Thank you for the review on Capterra! We're very glad you are happy with Nextcloud! Nextcloud upgrades should absolutely not give any issues - there must be a problem at Dreamhost if they do. In addition, we offer our customers stand-by support when doing upgrades to make sure even large installations upgrade smoothly. Our experienced team is extremely adept at identifying and fixing them quickly! If you want to get the most out of Nextcloud, consider a Nextcloud Subscriptions to benefit from our expertise and additional functionality like Outlook integration. The community forums are - well that, community forums, only really suitable for home users.

Nextcloud is great for people who are tech-savvy and want to reduce privacy concerns brought forth by having all of your data saved to the cloud. Nextcloud should look into selling small mediacenter-style computers that have Nextcloud pre-installed on them, in cooperation with a hosting service, so that a layman could just plug it in, answer a few questions, and be up and running in minutes.
Nextcloud is a fantastic software that gives so many features for free to users to host their own data. The interface is very simple and attractive, and the mobile app and client-side software make it a great replacement for Google Drive
Inherent with the versatility of the software, Nextcloud is limited to who can use it. It's very complicated to set up your own server for a non-tech user, and I feel this will be a barrier preventing it from growing.

Removal of inflated mail files due to attachments. Since sharing per folder unit is possible, it can be used as shared storage with business partners per project unit, and information can be shared in real-time. Information is frequently managed individually because users can be organized.
Although dependent on the rental server, the system is currently stable and is useful for pulling data and making backups. The build and setup require some skill, but if you can complete it, you can get a low cost and a high degree of freedom. When I was worried about large mail files on each PC, I discovered that I could send files by URL.
As for the abundance of add-ons and insufficient localization, it is a waste of treasure because it is not possible to expand functions without knowing how to use them. It is not as collaborative as OneDrive versus Microsoft Office or Google Drive versus Google Docs. Similar to Microsoft Office, I would like to have a system that enables multiple users to edit the same document simultaneously.

Amazing! It is super easy to control data and apps. There are more plugins and apps available for Nextcloud than what it seems. It is also super easy to customize things.
The amount of features that it has... it has all that Google Drive offers and more. Apps for mobile and desktop are available to connect with Nextcloud. The documentation to set up and customize your own instance of Nextcloud is super well organized and readable.
Although it is very well documented (and the documentation is easy to read), it is difficult to find a solution online for a problem that is not in the documentation (this only happened once to me).

I needed a safe, on prem option to g-drive and onedrive.
It is easy to get the server up and running and it is easy to maintain and update. Security updates comes frequently and it is easy to update. The desktop client and mobile app is working flawless.
Had some initial problems with setup and installing certificates. Some third-party addons can make the product instable.

Our company dabbled with Office 365 and Google Drive for sharing data with our team, but we always had issues with each one of them, either privacy or lack of certain features and control. Nextcloud being free, privacy centric , conventional and loaded with new features served to be the perfect solution for our implementation.
- Being open source and having pretty much full control over your own hosting, it negates any need for other paid solutions like Google Drive or Office 365. - End to end encryption makes sharing documents very easy and secure. - Easy to organize and manage all documents and files in a practical manner. - Effective privacy and high levels of security and control of data. - Accessible through any device, anywhere. - Completely premium software, clean and sleek interface and highly customizable. - Packed with features and more on the way.
- Any problem arises, it is all yours to fix, invest your time and work. - Backups have to be implemented pretty much on your own. - A little clunky software and there is a bit of a learning curve. - Updating is a little dodgy sometimes.

I use self-hosted Nextcloud for me and for some of our customers and we are all satisfied: in a click you can save, share, search your files and documents. There are many extensions available as OCR, photo retouch and so on and you can connect also external sourced as S3, Google Drive, Dropbox and others.
Nextcloud community is not easy to install, but if you know systems a little and follow instructions you can do it by yourself. As an alternative you can buy Nextcloud

I manage as user and administrator in the application. It is user-friendly considering its ease of use and it is a combination of google drive and whatsapp applications. It is easy to install and use. You can host your server wherever you want. Message delivery times are provided with instant notification. Application entries are made with two factor authentication system.
What I see lacking is that it has little graphical content. Some more user attention can be made. It can be used using a theme, but it is not clear whether it is reliable.

I am independant from organizations like Dropbox or Google.
Next to files, contacts and calendars you could store notes, read news, listen to music, create mindmaps and many more
You have to maintain your own server to keep the data absolute private. You need an DDNS service as well.

A real alternative to Office 365, Zoho, and Google cloud.
Excellent cloud storage and sharing tools, but the add-ons are really where Nextcloud shines e.g. the ability to spin up a Kanban board, or a groupware calendar or many others.
Some add-ons are hit and miss with quality, and some do not work at all (e.g. the forms add-on did not work)
