Google Drive overview

What is Google Drive?

Google Drive is a cloud storage and backup platform to access files, docs, photos & more, store them in a safe place, and collaborate with other people. The Google Drive platform can be accessed wherever the user is at the time, from in their home to on-the-go, or in the office, meaning files can be accessed, shared, edited, collaborated on, and more.

The security and backup features within Google Drive mean that files are protected and safely stored even when technological disasters occur. No matter what happens to the users' devices, their files are safely stored in Google Drive.

Google Drive allows users to do more than just store their files. Users can share files with exactly who they want and edit them together, from any device. Google Drive gives instant access to Google Docs, a suite of editing tools that makes working together easy—even when your teammates are miles away.

The best cloud storage service

Three years ago I decided to use google drive and so far my experience on this is absolutely perfect. As station masters we are dealing with documents up to a certain extent and the help google drive gives me throughout my career is great. Specially it made my mind peaceful of knowing that I won't forget any document to carry and all my documents are stored in a safe place. I do mobile photography as one of my hobbies and I don't need any additional SD cards for my phone because I can store them in drive. I have never experienced any loss of files that I stored due to software failure. My overall experience of using google drive is really positive and I would like to recommend anyone who is willing to use a cloud storage which works flawlessly almost 100% of the time.

Pros
Google drive is the best advanced cloud storage service which gives us free 15GB storage. As a station master I handle lots of confidential files that cannot be saved in a local machine with the fear of being stolen. Laptops and hard drives can be destroyed or stolen and anyone who has access to it can view and modify files. Also if there is meeting and if I forgot to take my pen-drive which contains the documents, that's a big problem. For all these problems I decided to use a google drive as the cloud storage few years back. When I moved to use it; it made my life really easier and thank god I don't need to worry anymore. I'm using the free feature set provided by google drive and those features are enough for me. For me, the best feature is sharing google docs and slides that are stored in cloud with my team. I can provide edit privilege to do the changes and using logs I can track the changes made to the files. File and folder sharing is really simple. Just a right click and select whatever the option I need. All the people that I involve with are not techy. So by sharing a link make them easier because what they just need to do is click that link and to the editing. They don't need to download documents, do the editing and upload them again. The syncing capability automatically sync my information with the devices that my account logged in and the services that I connected to google drive like google docs, sheets, slides and whatsapp make backups and save daily.

Cons
The uploading and downloading time is bit high for the larger files and it highly depends on the internet speed as well. Sometimes it's bit confusing to figure out which files I have shared publicly and which files not. To be honest that is the only issue that I have experienced with google drive.

Offers Remote Access from any Browser. My files are always with me whether I access my own PC/Laptop or on vacation using a public computer. I can work Anywhere Anytime! I use Drive for my Back Up and I can Share my files stored on Drive with anyone I want to. And if the 15 GB isn't enough after some time I purchased another 100 GB of storage for less than $2.00 per month! Plus, any changes I make to a document or with a shared client those changes/ revisions are automatically populated in all versions of the document!! I never have to carry a heavy laptop with me since the sync feature across all my devices allow me access from a table or a remote PC.

Pros
Everything! Plus the Free 15 GB of Storage with Synching across multiple devices. Drive Syncs to all my Devices, whether my phone, laptop, PC, SD Card, USB flash drives and my camera. I can Upload and Download and everything is in there! Drive Folder also sits on my Laptop folder and I can drag and drop and file stored on my computer to the Drive folder that auto syncs to Cloud Drive!

Cons
So far after many years of using Drive I haven't found anything I don't like about it. It is an amazing tool!

One of the Best Drives Out There

Over all, Google Drive is one of the best Drives I have come across especially as someone who uses apps and programs to interchangeably access files from a Mac to a PC to an iPad I can easily access from all of these platforms all of my files. Google Drive is not only a Drive though! You can work on Docs, Powerpoints, and more live time with others as well or on your own. One of the greatest tools that replace many programs to date.

Pros
Google Drive continues to be one of the most easiest and most prominent Drives where you can store multiple files on a website you can access any time. With 15 GB of free space, there is a great amount of space to upload important files to be accessed from anywhere. Google Drive also has the ability to create team or shared drives to share documents in an organized fashion with a group of people who can also equally modify and edit the content in there. Making it one of the greatest team tools for school!

Cons
Although we do have a good 15 GB of space, my dislike is that it is sharing the space with emails. That is pretty much it. However, if you go through your email and clear them often then obviously there is no issue of that getting in the way. I get heavy emails with a lot of attachments and that’s frustrating since it does take up space in my allotted 15 GB that could be used for something in the google drive itself

Daily benefits, it is just that one day to the next I am not sure what I am going to receive and how fast.

Pros
Access and the fact that it is free is wonderful, however like most Google apps it is not a polished product.

Cons
The processes of uploading (automatically), deleting, scrolling, and downloading are tedious as they have to be done by checking each file. Deleting is done by batch but be careful because after you have checked many it takes a while to actually delete and you may get an error and have to redo it over and over. Downloading is ridiculous I have not found any other way to download a file other than one (1) at a time, which would take me literally days. Scrolling is through files is like looking at a dial up page. For those who do not know what a dial up is... imagine a line by line upload..... it is enough to make the most patient person impatient. Finally uploading is sporadic at best no consistency in Drive whatsoever. Like Dropbox there is no add-ons when it comes to sound so what you get is all you get. I am not sure how hard it is to add-on functionable services, but if your able to upload video and or sound files how about thinking just a bit farther and realize that sound is very intricate and different for everyone. Some people have hearing issues some people don't.... It is not rocket science, or maybe it is... In closing, it seems to me that Google is an amazing company that is a MEGA innovator. I don't believe the internet and all of our media and access to everything on the internet would have happened without Google they have kept their promise of no ads to date. I would like to see GOOGLE finish an app, and I mean completely they have the staff and resources.

The best way Drive is helping us is by keeping individual teams together on projects and updates about those projects. This has replaced emailing updated files back and forth, and always wondering if you have the most recent file or not.

Pros
Google Drive allows me to easily organize all of my files and have access to them on the go. With mobile application and website access, I can access my files anywhere I have internet. This is huge for me as I travel with regularity and need to work on my projects. Another pro is that my team can all access the same files and collaborate on projects.

Cons
It lacks simplicity in selecting to share certain files with individuals. I would like to see that feature improved.
