Unreliable file synchronization

IT Manager

The OneDrive connection to the File Explorer constantly is having issues and not fully syncing. If there is a small period of time that the connection struggles, we are taking way too long to catch up.

Southwest Iowa Associate

We have also had syncing issues, and files sometimes don't update, won't appear in our file explorer the same way it does online, etc.

65% of reviewers feel negative about SharePoint’s file synchronization. Some users report issues with syncing files between devices, particularly when multiple people edit documents simultaneously. Reviewers mention slow or failed syncs, conflicts, and delays in updates appearing across platforms. They say integration with OneDrive can be inconsistent, and large or complex folder structures often exacerbate problems. Users find that these synchronization issues can lead to lost changes, duplicated files, and workflow disruptions.

Ineffective search experience

Manager

The ability to better filter search results and hone in on specific content is not intuitive and therefore not effective.

63% of reviewers feel negative about SharePoint’s search functionality. Users say the search tool often returns too many irrelevant results or fails to locate specific documents, especially in large libraries. Reviewers find the lack of effective filters and slow search speeds frustrating, making it difficult to quickly find needed files. Some users mention that the search experience is not intuitive and requires significant customization or training to use efficiently. They feel this hampers productivity, particularly in content-heavy environments.

High and complex pricing

Freelancer

It can be costly as most organizations that don't have a devoted SharePoint group should manage the execution stage and continuous upkeep with external service providers.

55% of reviewers feel negative about SharePoint’s pricing. Users say the cost of licensing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance can be prohibitive, especially for small and medium-sized businesses. Reviewers mention that the pricing structure is complex, with additional fees for advanced features or consulting services. Some users find that the need for IT expertise further increases costs. They feel that the total investment required for setup and customization may not be justified for organizations with limited budgets.

Slow performance with large files

Associate Partnership

This doesn't happen very often, so I take it with a grain of salt. And, once again, I detest its pace; working speed is slow at times, uploading via portal takes too long when files are vast in size

81% of reviewers feel negative about SharePoint’s performance and speed. Some users report slow load times, lag when accessing large documents, and delays during file uploads or synchronization. Reviewers say performance issues are more noticeable with large libraries, complex sites, or limited internet bandwidth. They find that the web-based nature of SharePoint can lead to clunky navigation and resource-heavy operations, which can disrupt productivity. Users mention that maintaining optimal speed often requires strong hardware and stable internet connections.

Frequent bugs and glitches

71% of reviewers feel negative about SharePoint’s bugs and issues. Users report experiencing frequent glitches, crashes, and unexpected errors that disrupt their workflow. Some reviewers mention problems with document locking, inconsistent syncing, and browser compatibility. MS SharePoint is a good tool to help organizations improve collaboration, streamline document management, help employee engagement and track projects. Although there is a learning curve to it and a complex interface, it provides a lot of customization to your business needs. If you already have other MS products, this is worth the money.

It integrates seamlessly with Microsoft 365, making file sharing, version control, and real-time co-authoring very efficient for teams.

Team- and Projectlead Content and Social Media

SharePoint is our go-to solution for sharing media with our customers and gathering feedback, but it also serves as our internal cloud storage, which is essential for us as an agency with a remote structure.

Safety and Maintenance Manager

Sharepoint allows us to connect our business by having a shared site where we can upload and download important documents between our office and our drivers on the road

HR Recruiting Specialist

We use it as our online library at work, and it allows us to store and manage different folders and admin the access/restrictions.

The ability to access content from anywhere and integrate with other Microsoft 365 tools significantly enhances productivity and teamwork.

System Administrator

We also have frequent issues with users who upload a new profile photo to the directory taking several days to sync and eventually show up throughout Sharepoint.

What I like least about Microsoft SharePoint is that performance can be a bit slow at times, especially when dealing with larger files or multiple users working at the same time.

Microsoft SharePoint provides a centralized platform for teams to collaborate, share documents, and manage project information.

Service Coordinator

We use Microsoft SharePoint to manage our documents and a calendar we created to input which days we are servicing our customer’s.

The interface often requires too many clicks to perform simple tasks, and managing permissions—while powerful—can become confusing and time‑consuming, leading to accidental access issues or bottlenecks.

It makes it easy to organize project-related files, share information across teams, and maintain version control without worrying about duplicate documents.

Data Migration Analyst

Issues in moving large amount of files across sites also faces some issues such as slow performance and file integrity issues.

Knowledge Management Coordinator

I like that SharePoint has the ability to customize folders, files, and pages in intuitive ways.

What I like most about Microsoft SharePoint is how it centralizes document management and team collaboration in one place.

Like most enterprise tools, there is a bit of a learning curve when setting up more advanced features, but for everyday users it's quite intuitive once they're familiar with it. Whenever we've needed guidance, Microsoft's documentation and support resources have been helpful.

Internal Audit

For standard needs it is acceptable, but for a more advanced finance, audit, reporting or governance-oriented use case, complementary controls may still be needed.

Office Manager

I have found that, once I create/upload a document into the document library, I cannot drag and drop it into a folder.

Curriculum Designer and Trainer II

SharePoint is a great tool to use because it has such a wide capability of things that it can do Such as document management, note taking and text editing, and file management.

The feature set is coherent, especially around permissions, and it can be useful when the organization mainly needs a practical operational solution.

Flight Operations Coordinator

My coworkers and I use SharePoint to track and share weather for various airports, often needing to update depending on frozen runway conditions.

It also needs a proper structure from the start, because if folders, sites, and permissions are not planned well, it can get messy quickly.

I’ve been primarily using SharePoint for accessing company documents, sales resources, and marketing materials.

In addition, search results can occasionally be inconsistent if documents and metadata aren't well maintained. Despite these points, none of them have been significant enough to outweigh the overall benefits we've experienced.

Payroll Manager

I like that it is a centralized platform for team collaboration, documment managment and document approvals.

Psychotherapist

The platform supports calendar and scheduling helping teams coordinate projects and events within the same workspace.

Internal Auditor

Sometimes it’s difficult to find the resources I’m looking for on the user interface, but that may be a result of how my company has organized the webpages, and not SharePoint itself.

Accounts Administrator

When using multiple display monitors, sometimes it's hard to find the monitor with the document on you are trying to share.

It's a solid solution for businesses looking for a secure and centralized platform that works well within the Microsoft ecosystem.

Instructional Design

I like the integration with Microsoft 365, excellent collaboration among the team members, robust file management, and strong security features.
