Avassa overview

What is Avassa?

The Avassa Edge Platform enables teams to orchestrate containerized application workloads using familiar tools and practices across distributed environments where location matters.

The platform consists of two key components: the Avassa Control Tower and the Avassa Edge Enforcer. The Control Tower, available as a service or installed on a private data center, provides centralized management of distributed containerized applications and operating system upgrades through user interfaces and APIs. It handles application lifecycle tasks like defining, deploying, upgrading, and monitoring containerized applications. The Control Tower also enables edge site management by assembling distributed hosts into sites and allowing for granular resource assignments.

The Avassa Edge Enforcer is a container application installed on each host that enables unique edge site autonomy and application continuity while having a small performance footprint. Key functions include automatic cluster formation, state replication, container registry services to reschedule workloads across hosts, application networking and DNS services, and autonomous scheduling of container and VM workloads with built-in failover and migration capabilities.

Together, the Control Tower and Edge Enforcer aim to reduce the complexity of managing containerized applications across distributed edge environments. The platform extends familiar tooling from cloud-based environments to handle challenges unique to the edge like location-based computing needs, intermittent connectivity, and geographic distribution of assets.
