Pros

It is an impressive open source software, really reliable. I love its PostGIS spatial module, which enables powerful geospatial functions.
After switching over from Access, it has been nice to be able to have a more robust experience.
It's a great relational database management system. It's open-source, free, reliable and secure.

Pros

I am very happy with the software, in fact, I am making an living as an oracle DBA, once you know the product, it is a super good database product.
For me this is the best Database, because it is safe, reliable and very nice organized. It handles tremendous amounts of data without problems.
If you know SQL, then you can use Oracle Database. Easy interface, easy of use and a great variety of resources makes this tool excellent to develop and maintain your own database.

Cons

Probably because of bad stats but from time to time the problem happens again.
Lot of features are missing from it as compared to the other products in the market.
I had skipped the few initial classes and missed the part where the professor taught how to use the app.

Cons

It is really unusual to allow a bad programmer to use a sequence for several tables. Beyond that that would be a bad development practice the biggest mistake is that the tool invites you to commit it.
This comment is about personal preference: it is sometimes difficult to switch between Oracle and MS-SQL, which is a problem as we run software that uses both.
But sometimes it will keep having you put information in at every startup of your computer at that part can be annoying.

Excellent alternative to MySQL when you need more flexibility

Reviewed 2 years ago

I needed a very efficient database that could handle a huge amount of records, views and access for a data-scraping and analysis project. I was able to very easily do this with a combination of python for data processing, tableau for visualization and postgre-sql for the database. It has been running for a few years without any hiccups and with great efficiency.

Pros

User management is very flexible and the query language support many things that MySQL does not out-of-the-box, more inline with oracle database.

Cons

Not as ubiquitous as MySQL so initial setup and admin is slightly more complicated.

PostgreSQL - Powerful Database with ease of use and portability

Reviewed 7 years ago

During different database evaluation for a Project, I found "PostgreSQL" to be a strong relational database, what I was looking for an Oracle like DB, to support all the features that are supported by Oracle, here I found that alternates for most of the options available in other DB were available. Also, the admin features were pretty straight forward and a lot of support was available online which made it even easier to use.

Pros

A strong and powerful alternative to many other popular DB's.

Experience with PostgreSQL

Reviewed 3 years ago

We have used the database for the implementation of reporters in most cases, seeking to remove the load from the main database.

Pros

It allows me to implement a robust database in a very short time, using a structure very similar to Oracle, in addition to having many tools that allow us to manage the data in the best way.

Cons

There are functionalities that with third-party products can obtain better results.

Best free Database

Reviewed 6 years ago

I've been using PostgreSQL as a persistence layer for multiple applications, and I didn't have any problems so far - and did I mention that this DB is free?

Pros

This is a free database with all functionalities you expect from your RDBMS. You can connect to it with pretty much anything and it works like a charm. I've been using MS SQL, Oracle and MySql as well, but with PostgreSQL I've had the best experience.

Cons

I don't like the new pgAdmin IV tool for accessing DB, it is much slower than the older pgAdmin III.

PostgreSQL

is a database that is easy to use and very practical, the benefits of working with it are many

Reviewed 6 years ago

It is free license and can be operated on different platforms, including Linux, Windows, Unix, Solaris and MacOS X. It has a multiversion concurrency control which adds an image of the state of the database to each transaction allowing the transferences to be consistent and high performance.

Pros

is an object-relational database which allows it to be compatible with user-defined objects, this makes postgresSQL a flexible and robust database, it supports an extensive amount of data types among them, numeric, comma types floating, array, among many more, allows to create a wide functionality through its trigger system (triggers). It has a support for distributed transactions which supports the integration in a distributed system consisting of several resources such as a PostgreSQL database, another Oracle, an IBM MQ JMS message queue and an SAP ERP managed by an application server.

Cons

the transactions abort completely if a fault is found during its execution, which can cause the loss of information, it is slow in the insertions and updates since it has intersection headers, the object orientation support is a simple extension that offers benefits such as inheritance, not full support. The current versions of PostgreSQL have a serious security problem that will be fixed in the next versions of the product.

PostgreSQL is the best open source database

Reviewed 4 years ago

I used another database for a large Brazilian bank. It was not a free database. The migration was excellent.

Pros

PostgreSQL has several advantages. It is lightweight and reliable. Search filters are very easy to understand. People who know the basics of the SQL language can do several queries, since PostgreSQL assembles selects. I can change it within the table itself, so I don't need to do the update command. On top of that, it's free and open source!

Cons

Sometimes the connection to the database drops (internal server error 500), and it is necessary to connect again. When the query has many records, the data return is slow. They are the only negative points of this tool.

Pros

PostgreSQL is one of the most simple to install database systems out there. It supports all standard ansi sql types, and is stable enough to use in production without having to splash out on professional support at extensive costs. Getting support can assist in business uses though, but either way, it works well for basic SQL and data storage.

The package types for advanced management are non-standard and can be a bit of a learning curve if coming from Oracle PLSQL or Microsoft T-SQL

I have been using PostgreSQL for one of our companies software for some time. Initially we were using v9.6 since many of my friends suggested me to use it and that later versions had some regressions in performance. But being curious, I installed v11 and haven't looked back ever since. It is fast, doesn't have any issues with data fetching and is open source. I hope that PostgreSQL team find a good way so that two databases across two places can be synced.

Pros

Open source nature, performance improvements from one version to another, can easily be setup

Very simple yet powerful

Reviewed 6 years ago

It has helped us to remove unnecessary distractions and focus on the main task of reducing time taken for queries. It is very fast and reliable with it's transactions. It helped us with high volumes of data. Postgres FDW was used to connect our existing SQL server databases.

Pros

It has a clean interface and does not tries to get an attractive UI for you. It has very less query time. It provides a good architecture for code first approach projects. We set it up on Linux and it does behaves pretty nice on it. We get to see what what we need to see while querying. It is quiet easy to edit the datatypes and design your schema. Also it provides some nice mining tools which can operate on our data. And the best thing about it is source code availability. We can do whatever we want.

Cons

It is slow for small database sizes but the issue erodes with database size increase. Also it has different syntax which might look complex to some.
