Helps with my team projects in a big way!

2018-05-07

better than slack

Pros

Helps with my team projects in a big way! I can assign tasks to people on my team and there is never that gray area of who was supposed to do it. Reduces emails

Cons

There is no ala carte pricing model. You need to go all in and pay. It is cheaper than using the 5 other things it replaces but I don't use all those things.

Good solution if you don't have anything set up yet

2019-01-17

Pros

Easy place to collaborate on projects, and share documents and assign task. The reoccurring feature is nice for daily checkins.

Cons

Having already had slack set up, getting people to communicate on here over slack is a challenge.

Best and most important tool in our company

2017-12-08

Small, medium or huge business, all I can say is: Start using Basecamp. You'll never regret it. It has changed the way we do business. Our company is incredibly more efficient thanks to this. Couldn't be happier.

Pros

We run our company on Basecamp. We basically need nothing else. We're the happiest customers. Sharing ideas, sending files, unlimited storage, easiest UI and UX, 5 minute set up and many other things. We have never felt like Basecamp is missing something and whenever we have (with pretty silly things) they come up with that new feature. It's pretty amazing tbh.

Cons

Reason why we use Slack. The moment they improve their chat we will probably stop using Slack as we love Basecamp so much.

Basecamp is a great way to keep in touch with your team!

2019-01-16

It's a great alternative to other programs like Slack.

Pros

I liked the ability to keep track of conversations. The ability to add gifs helps motivates people to communicate and keep it fun.

Cons

There were times in which I didn't get push notifications on my phone. It required me checking into basecamp to see if I got any notifications. Notifications seemed to work fine on my computer.

Good way to keep track for the entire team

2019-02-14

Pros

I liked the way it could keep the entire team organised. Strong competitor to Trello and better in most cases such as the interface.

Good but not great

2019-02-28

I used this with agencies, and while sufficient, I would use Slack over BC

Pros

I like this software for creative purposes and staying on time. I would use this for a webstite project that involved creatives and technical experts to communicate about things like programming and design form and function.

Cons

It can be too much/too many notifications and the task list does not seem user friendly.

Basecamp - Good for document collaboration and task management

2017-02-09

I've used basecamp for 2 years. Set up six projects including Competitor Intelligence, briefing and training repository for external marketing agency, document assignment and review with PR agency, same again with Copy Writing agency and a knowledge base for internal systems like CRM. Initially we didn't have this integrated with Google Drive / Google Docs, which wasn't so god as to review a document you had to download, then upload again. This can lead to multiple documents, clutter and confusion. So if you're looking to use Basecamp for document collaboration I'd definitely recommend you integrate with Google Drive & Docs. I scored Customer Support 5/5. Well in truth I've never needed to use support. The product is simple and self explanatory with tutorials / templates built in. I scored Features & Functionality 3/5 which may seem low. But the fact is this is quite a simple product and it does what I want. I cant say it misses much really if all you want is to collaborate around documents, have task assignment and tracking and allow discussion on any document. I found it both useful for content creation (the PR agency and Copy writing agency projects being good examples) and content dissemination & discussion (the competitive intel. and systems knowledge base being good examples). I had tried to use DropBox for some of these tasks previously. But at that time BaseCamp seemed more powerful. Things may have changed. I haven't tried DropBox for the past year or so.

Pros

Simple way to collaborate on tasks and documents / attached files

Cons

I've since worked in an organisation that uses Slack and Google G Suite (Docs and Drive); and I think that is better.

Recommendations to others considering Basecamp

If you're looking for a way to collaborate with people inside and outside of your company and want to task manage things like creation and review of documents and presentations, Basecamp could be ideal for you. However, you should consider what Office 365 or Google G-Suite can do for you already, as there's a chance you already have the capabilities that you need if you use these suites.

Basecamp is a great tool but likely to be replaced by Slack

2018-09-21

It works for what it is, it depends on who you have using it if this is the right platform for you.

Pros

This is a great way to stay in contact over distance and time, the calendar helps for event planning and for file sharing.

Cons

I don't care for how a lot of the features function, after using a product like Slack it really stands out.

navigation needs improvement compared to some of the free mainstream collaboration software, such as Slack, etc.

Used it in a major game project. Was great for colab both on and offsite.

It is a good place for longer form conversations that perhaps would get lost on Slack or Skype.

Pros

Over time a lot of our conversations moved over to Slack but Basecamp was still ideal for a longer form thought.

Cons

Exporting out all our images ended up being a bit of a pain and sometime if a thread was in the most recent thread it could be hard to find.

Good tool for teams!

2018-08-17

Good overall experience, but there are definitely other tools like Asana and Slack provide that compete with Basecamp.

Pros

The software is good for collaboration on creative projects. It seems to work really well when team members are working remotely. It's also pretty easy to share project files and have everything in one central location.

Cons

The only thing about this app is that Slack can provide many of the features that make Basecamp great.

Basecamp is awesome, it helps keep our company organized and connected

2018-01-11

Pros

The To-Dos feature is the thing I like the best. It makes managing projects really easy without overloading people with too much info. You can select who needs to be notified about what and easily follow up with them.

Cons

I wish Campfires were more developed and similar to Slack. Give me the ability to edit messages and auto-preview links.

To effectively implement BaseCamp, your team or organization must have an all-in approach

2019-02-13

Overall I would say if your business needs all of the functionality that BaseCamp offers, and aren't already fully integrated with solutions it can replace, there is tremendous value. We ended up switching after realizing we preferred many stand-alone tools we had already gotten accustomed to. There is also a tremendous cost savings that can be had if you have a large organization (50+ users even benefits greatly from the pricing model, 1000+ can be a real budget saver)

Pros

-Replaces various other tools that may add up to cost savings and simplification -Keeps all project management in one space -Chat features are quite robust -Metrics and visualizations make real-time progress easy to track -Global search function is incredibly useful

Cons

-Not using all of its function may be cost-prohibitive -Some of the applications it replaces are better stand-alone (Slack, Trello)

Great communication tool

2019-03-05

This product works well. I think it's best for teams working on projects and reduces the amount of wasted timeand effort to creating in-person meetings.

Pros

I like that you have a platform to be able to communicate on the current projects and this saves time and energy versus scheduling meetings where the communication isn't always recorded, thus losing some information.

Cons

I was hoping this product was more like Basecamp, where there is communication, but also the inclusion of project management.

Complex tool, great for small to mid size businesses

2019-02-09

As a small marketing agency, we tried multiple project management tools (Basecamp, Asana) and Slack turned out to be the best!

Pros

It's a great tool for small to mid size business who needs to organize different projects and have teams. We have been using the free version for over a year for our small digital marketing agency, it's great because you can create projects and open conversations in all of them with different team members. You can also chat with every member, send files, images, you can tag people (@) and it is integrated with Google Drive for us. They are constantly improving it with apps. You can set yourself as "away" if you would like to work but not be interupted by others. It has desktop notification setting as an option, which I found very useful The best feature is that you can "pin" posts to mark them as important!

Cons

The user interface seems a little complicated at first, but after a few days the structure makes sense and you will understand the connection between the areas.

I use Slack for daily office communication.

2018-01-11

Slack keeps our work conversations organized and fluid. We never have a gap in communication or a struggle in trying to reach anyone on the team.

Pros

Slack is as essential to our business as a pen is to steady journalling. The best part of Slack is how seamless it is cross device. Works great on my iPhone, and I can continue the same conversation on my Mac.

Cons

While I don't have significant experience here, the Basecamp integration should be a bit more useful or intuitive.

Its is simple to use- has a lot of features to store and save information and a group calendar to help everyone manage their time. You can access to allow volunteers to access certain documents and can also set various privacy settings depending on users and confidentiality.

Great replacement for email

2019-01-30

The only things stopping me are the lack of support from the companies I've worked for and other tools we use that offer similar features (e.g. Basecamp).

Pros

Ability to group discussion by topic and people, easily locate files that were uploaded during conversations and its positive impact on my inbox.

Cons

I suppose the only thing limiting my usage of Slack is the fact similar features are found in other packages we use, such as Basecamp, thus reducing our requirements for it.

Everything collaboration software should be

2018-10-17

We started with one channel and a few teams using Slack as an experiment. Within weeks, we'd sprouted channels for all kinds of projects and programs. In a few months, everyone was using it, everyday. And we never gave anyone a single minute of training or onboarding. That's how intuitive it is. Today, we work very differently than we did when email was clogging up our lives. We make decisions faster, accelerate all projects and keep the right people in the right loops, effortlessly.

Pros

We've used about 15 different tools for collaboration — including Smartsheets, Trello, Google Docs, Basecamp, Email... you name it.

Cons

Can't think of anything. At first, I found the search function a bit tricky but it just took getting to know it. Now I can search really effectively with it.

Gamechanger for team communication

2018-07-25

Pros

Hangouts, Basecamp, etc).

Cons

There isn't much to dislike. Personally I'd like to see better systems for organizing channels and conversations, so that I can pin specific conversations on the top or to add certain moments to a "saved snippets" category. I wouldn't use this for official documentation - it won't replace e-mail - but its perfect for day to day issues.

Best communication tool I’ve used

2018-11-29

I really enjoy using Slack on a daily basis, and I appreciate their attention to details in everything that they do.

Pros

Being able to create incoming webhooks is a game-changer for us. We’ve really made Slack our own by integrating it completely with our own product. We receive notifications and alerts in dedicated channels, allowing all of us to monitor what’s going on.

Cons

Would love to see something similar to the Basecamp text editor, that allows you to enter text, images and code within messages.

Eliminated email inbox clutter and allowed our team to have quick chats without disrupting one another at our desks. Greatly enhanced productivity and organization

Pros

Slack is a great product for every software team willing to collaborate seamlessly online.

I am a senior developer in a European startup that supports agricultural and liberal businesses in digitizing their business processes more quickly. And slack is the preferred tool that we use to manage the collaboration between our engineers and the technical teams of our customers.

Pros

.), Web-based project management Apps (Trello, Asana, Basecamp), Git code management and software project testing /deployment in the cloud (Bitbucket, Gitlab, Github) - Pricing is fair and suitable for any level of business : you can bring your teams on slack for free.

Cons

- Notifications on mobile devices, are not always fast. But this can be solved if you ask their support team to help you out.
