“It runs extremely well on a standard HP workstation and also helps our business by outputting our finished projects in a variety of formats (.jpg, .png, .pdf, etc.). Once I discovered GIMP years ago, I have never looked back at Abode's expensive suite of image editing software.”

“This software is not as advanced as photo shop although it is cheaper. As the application is completely free, support and development is extremely poor and inaccessible at times.”

So a major plus for gimp is that though it doesn't have a cloud of it own software, it is easily used with other platforms that do other things. You can in import Adobe AI or Inkscape for vector graphics and you can also take worked images and take them to other platforms or software and you should be fine. Most fonts from gimp will read in other platforms just fine. Not all fonts will be received as well but you still can import to Gimp and be in okay shape. I would say good to send from and to receive pictures or graphics but not the best for text bearing documents.

I remove the backgrounds in images in GIMP and transfer to Inkscape to design the graphics.

Photoshop is lets just say more professional program, when GIMP is more beginner-adept level type of program.
