What is Superdesk?
Superdesk is a news management system which enables news agencies of all sizes to create, produce, distribute, archive, and curate content with a suite of open-source journalism tools, including a headless content management system, editorial workflow management, Elasticsearch capabilities, review and revision functions, plus user access controls and permissions.
As an open-source web-based solution, Superdesk gives users the flexibility to integrate with legacy systems and other third-party apps. Users also have the flexibility to create their own workflows and automate recurring tasks and routines using article templates. Superdesk’s headless CMS allows users to find, retrieve, manage, edit and publish content from a single, centralized location.
Superdesk facilitates newsroom management, allowing news editors to review news lists and running orders, as well as check what reporters are filing and which trending topics have been covered. To further streamline newsroom management and publishing processes, Superdesk includes technologies such as RESTful APIs, MongoDB and Elasticsearch, which help users search, index and store content.
Superdesk supports custom workspaces where journalists can work on story ideas privately, with their own personal dictionaries and library of abbreviations. Editorial users can also create complex search queries and set up widgets to display custom search results in real time. Other Superdesk features include DIY content profiles, a proofreading view-switcher, and a multi-language user interface (UI).
