BidScreen XL overview
What is BidScreen XL?
BidScreen XL is a construction quantity takeoff solution that operates as a Microsoft Excel add-in. The software converts PDF, DWG, DXF, and TIF drawing files into auditable quantity takeoffs by embedding measurements as native Excel formulas. The Excel workbook remains the single source of truth, eliminating the need for separate databases or proprietary exports. The design meets the needs of commercial contractors and construction estimators requiring precise quantity calculations for concrete, roofing, painting, earthwork, and other trades.
The measurement toolkit includes calibrated area takeoff per sheet, straight section length measurement, continuous path length tracking, symbol count functionality, and negative mask capabilities for subtracting openings from area calculations. The add-in installs as a native Excel file and appears as an additional ribbon tab alongside standard tabs and keyboard shortcuts. Vector and raster sources can be opened side by side with per-sheet scale calibration, sheet bookmarks, and vector edge snapping. The Drawing Manager enables sheet grouping and bookmarking while supporting cloud storage platforms such as OneDrive, SharePoint, and Dropbox. PDF files remain in their native format without flattening or conversion, and multi-page PDF documents are fully supported alongside individual DWG, DXF, and TIF files.
BidScreen XL maintains compatibility with Excel native functionality, including macros, conditional formatting, pivot tables, and custom calculation templates. Measurements are stored as named formulas that update dynamically when drawing takeoffs are modified. This approach provides an auditable cell history for quality control and preserves all downstream estimating calculations and reporting structures. The solution requires Windows ten or Windows eleven operating systems and functions with Excel two thousand sixteen, two thousand nineteen, two thousand twenty-one or Microsoft three thousand sixty-five in thirty two-bit or sixty four-bit configurations.
Minimum hardware specifications include four gigabytes of random access memory with eight gigabytes recommended and five hundred megabytes of available disk space. The software operates without third-party integrations or application programming interfaces, as all measurement data resides within the Excel workbook. Licenses can be transferred between machines through a web-based portal. Organizations requiring multi-seat deployments can implement a Concurrent License Manager for floating license distribution with a three-license minimum.
