Our commitment
Independent research methodology
Our researchers use a mix of verified reviews, independent research, and objective methodologies to bring you selection and ranking information you can trust. While we may earn a referral fee when you visit a provider through our links or speak to an advisor, this has no influence on our research or methodology.
Verified user reviews
GetApp maintains a proprietary database of millions of in-depth, verified user reviews across thousands of products in hundreds of software categories. Our data scientists apply advanced modeling techniques to identify key insights about products based on those reviews. We may also share aggregated ratings and select excerpts from those reviews throughout our site.
Our human moderators verify that reviewers are real people and that reviews are authentic. They use leading tech to analyze text quality and to detect plagiarism and generative AI.
How GetApp ensures transparency
GetApp lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. GetApp is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider’s website.

cipher overview
What is cipher?
cipher7 is a comprehensive point-of-sale and venue management solution built on a hardened Linux operating system designed specifically for hospitality establishments. It consolidates operational functions into a unified platform that replaces the fragmented ecosystem of separate systems for sales, reservations, inventory, scheduling and back office operations. The architecture supports local operation within venue infrastructure rather than relying on cloud services. This design ensures continuous functionality during internet outages across all service points.
The platform delivers seven integrated functional surfaces on a single spine. The point-of-sale surface runs natively on hardened Linux terminals with dedicated card readers at each station and maintains order processing during connectivity interruptions. The reservations and table management surface handles bookings, floor layouts, cover counts and waitlist operations in the same system as transaction processing. The memberships and loyalty surface features tier definitions and rotating QR code check in sequences to maintain direct guest relationships. The inventory and cellar management surface provides live tracking of stock levels, pours and par thresholds without separate applications or manual logs. The back office surface presents real time sales analytics, labor tracking and profit and loss statements on an actual cost basis with genuine end of day closing. The staff and human resources surface manages hiring, onboarding, policy distribution, scheduling and time tracking through scanner integrations. The public storefront surface unifies website management, e commerce transactions and member registration within the same operational environment.
The system operates on dedicated on premises infrastructure including a server, core network switch and venue wide patch cabling. Each station connects via dual network drops or an optional switch configuration to support terminals and card readers. Terminals boot exclusively into the point-of-sale interface on a locked down Linux kiosk build without access to external application sources. Access control employs passwordless sign in, role based clearance and default deny security protocols. The network is managed by the vendor to maintain operational independence from external uptime dependencies.
All data transmission and storage employ strong encryption methods managed by the vendor. Native agreement management includes SMS based electronic signature workflows with automatic document storage. Ticketed event functionality updates the public site with pricing and availability in real time. Inventory counting integrates barcode and weight scanning at the terminal while purchase orders and recipe management operate within the same system. Staff onboarding workflows consolidate form completion and verification through single link invitations. The platform is delivered as a licensed managed service rather than open source software to ensure venues receive a supported operational environment without the need for dedicated internal IT staffing.
