NightOwl is an application monitoring tool built for Laravel. Your app is instrumented by the official laravel/nightwatch package (no Nightwatch account or subscription needed), and the NightOwl agent running on your server writes the telemetry into your own PostgreSQL database. You explore and triage it in NightOwl's hosted dashboard.

What it captures

All 12 Laravel event types: HTTP requests, exceptions with stack traces, database queries, queued jobs and their attempts, artisan commands, scheduled tasks, cache hits and misses, mail, notifications, outgoing HTTP requests, logs and authenticated users. Events from the same request or job are linked by trace, so a slow request links to the queries and exceptions it produced.

Issues and alerts

Exceptions are grouped into issues with status, priority, assignee, comments and an activity timeline. Performance thresholds can open an issue automatically when something gets too slow. Alerts go to Slack, Discord, email through your own SMTP server, or webhooks signed with HMAC-SHA256.

For agencies

On the Agency plan, each client can have its own team, and team members can be limited to specific apps. A portfolio page shows the health of every client app, client reports can carry your own branding, and an app can be transferred to a client's own account.

Technical specs

- PHP 8.2 or later, Laravel 11, 12 or 13

- A PostgreSQL database that you provide, reachable from the internet (managed providers such as Supabase, Neon or RDS work)

- The default async agent driver needs PHP's pcntl and posix extensions. A single-process sync driver is available for hosts without them. Laravel Vapor apps are supported by running the agent on a separate long-running host.

- The agent buffers telemetry locally and writes it to PostgreSQL in batches. In NightOwl's own benchmark (M1 Mac, local PostgreSQL), a single instance ingested 13,400 payloads per second.

- Several agent instances can run side by side for throughput or redundancy. On Team and Agency plans, a health panel shows the ingest rate, CPU and memory of each one.

Security and data control

Your telemetry is written to your PostgreSQL database and read from there by the dashboard. NightOwl's own database holds your account, your app settings and the health data your agent reports, such as ingest rates and error counts. Database passwords for connected apps are stored encrypted. By default, request payloads are only captured for 500 responses and response bodies aren't captured at all. Whatever you do capture is redacted by field name, with password and token fields redacted by default. You choose how long raw telemetry is kept, with no cap from NightOwl, and the summaries behind trend charts are kept longer. On Team and Agency plans, the Data Management page deletes by table, date range, route, status code or log level, and protects the most recent 24 hours to 7 days from deletion.
