Practice Ground is a behavioral simulation platform for leadership development, built by organizational psychologists at Virbela.

HOW IT WORKS

Learners select a scenario, review a preparation guide covering their role and constraints, then hold the conversation out loud with an AI counterpart that stays in character and adapts to what the learner actually says. The counterpart applies pressure the way a real person does rather than accepting the first reasonable answer.

After the conversation, the transcript is scored against behavior-specific criteria. Each criterion returns Strong, Partial, or Missed, tied to what the learner said. A coaching pass then delivers feedback on specific moments, including what a stronger move would have looked like.

WHAT IS MEASURED

Six leadership competencies: Communication, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Coaching & Development, Judgment, Integrity & Accountability, and Learning Agility. Criteria are developed from assessment center methodology, an approach with six decades of research behind it in industrial-organizational psychology.

Each scenario defines weighted critical moments, including one signature moment carrying the heaviest weight, plus dealbreaker behaviors that cap a score regardless of performance elsewhere.
