Independent research methodology
Our researchers use a mix of verified reviews, independent research, and objective methodologies to bring you selection and ranking information you can trust. While we may earn a referral fee when you visit a provider through our links or speak to an advisor, this has no influence on our research or methodology.
Verified user reviews
GetApp maintains a proprietary database of millions of in-depth, verified user reviews across thousands of products in hundreds of software categories. Our data scientists apply advanced modeling techniques to identify key insights about products based on those reviews. We may also share aggregated ratings and select excerpts from those reviews throughout our site.
Our human moderators verify that reviewers are real people and that reviews are authentic. They use leading tech to analyze text quality and to detect plagiarism and generative AI.
How GetApp ensures transparency
GetApp lists all providers across its website—not just those that pay us—so that users can make informed purchase decisions. GetApp is free for users. Software providers pay us for sponsored profiles to receive web traffic and sales opportunities. Sponsored profiles include a link-out icon that takes users to the provider’s website.

Skimrr overview
What is Skimrr?
Skimrr is a desktop photo management application built for local processing on macOS eleven and later and Windows ten and later. It identifies duplicate and out-of-focus images within local directory structures while preserving privacy. The software operates entirely on the user’s hardware without external uploads. It addresses common library challenges including identical duplicates across folders, unreviewed burst sequences, and misfocused shots.
Duplicate detection employs fingerprint matching for identical files paired with visual similarity analysis for near-duplicate identification. Identical files are matched by file fingerprinting while visually similar originals and exports are grouped based on content analysis. The system suggests files to retain by prioritizing raw formats over exports followed by resolution and sharpness metrics and users may override these suggestions. Blur detection measures sharpness on a tile-by-tile basis and scores images based on the sharpest regions to distinguish intentional artistic softness from genuine focus errors. Thresholds calibrate dynamically to the specific folder context and photos just above the threshold remain visible to maintain filtering transparency. A vision model performs secondary review on fingerprint-proposed groups to remove false positives among distinct photographs.
The review interface presents photographs grouped by capture day in a gallery view to facilitate focused curation. Duplicate and focus views may be narrowed to a selected day and individual groups open in two-pane or four-pane comparisons with synchronized zoom that permits pixel-level inspection at magnifications of up to two times. The overview panel provides a statistical breakdown of file formats, year segmentation, and potential storage recovery. Before any operation executes, the software displays every selected file as a grid showing filenames, file sizes, and total space to be reclaimed and allows exclusion of individual items.
Supported formats include JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF and a range of camera raw formats such as ARW, CR two, CR three, NEF, ORF, RW two, RAF, PEF and DNG. Raw files process through embedded full-size previews to preserve framing and maintain processing efficiency. Files slated for deletion move to a local application-managed trash preserving original folder paths for selective restoration and permanent removal occurs only after explicit trash emptying. The application requires internet access only for initial license activation and periodic verification while operating fully offline for all image analysis. A single license permits installation on up to three devices and device slots may be managed within the application without external support. No user accounts, cloud services or telemetry transmission are required.
