SoftOrbits Photo Retoucher overview

What is SoftOrbits Photo Retoucher?

A shoebox of prints does not age well, and that is the problem photo restoration software exists to solve. Scans come out with cracks across faces, yellow stains and a softness no slider fixes. Doing the repair by hand in a general editor takes an evening per picture, and upload sites ask you to hand family portraits to a server you know nothing about. SoftOrbits Photo Retoucher is built for that exact job. It runs on a Windows PC and does most of the work in one automatic pass.

📷 What the damage looks like, and what happens to it

A torn corner or a fold line. The scratch pass finds the break and fills it in, removing creases and scuffs that cross the frame.

A face gone soft. Face restoration rebuilds eyes, mouth and skin texture while holding on to the mood of the portrait. A critically damaged face is still rebuilt, though small details may differ from the person in the print.

Grain and blur. Unblur and Denoise tidies a noisy scan or a shot that was never sharp.

No color at all. Colorization paints a monochrome picture in one step. If a coat comes out in the wrong shade, you repaint it manually.

Something that should not be there. A date stamp or a watermark can be brushed over and erased, and so can a passer-by.

A tiny original. The AI Photo Enlarger scales a low-resolution image up to 8x before it goes to print.

🚀 How to start

1. Scan your prints at the highest resolution the scanner offers. Detail lost at this stage cannot be recovered later.

2. Install the photo restoration program and allow the one-time download of AI models on first launch.

3. Add a file, open the AI Restoration panel and choose the checkboxes that fit the picture.

4. Click Restore and look at the outcome next to the original.

5. Fix what remains with Object Remover, the Concealer brush or the Clone Stamp, and adjust brightness, contrast and saturation if the tones look flat.

6. For a full album, switch to Batch Mode, pick the actions once and let the queue run.

👥 Who it is for

- Home users with an inherited archive who want to restore old photos without learning a professional editor.

- Family historians who need clean portraits for a tree, a book or a memorial slideshow.

- Small studios, framers and print shops that offer old photo restoration as a paid service and prefer to keep client images in house.

- Volunteers at local archives working through boxes of donated prints, for whom a photo restoration app with a batch queue saves weeks.

- Photographers who want photo retouching software on hand for portraits, with skin touch-ups and object removal in the same window.

❓ FAQ

What does the trial version allow? All of it except saving. You run the full restoration and inspect the picture on screen. Writing the image to disk requires a license.

Can I fix one spot by hand after the automatic pass? Yes. Paint over the spot with the Remove brush or the Concealer and the program fills it from the surrounding area. The Clone Stamp gives full manual control.

Does it need a graphics card? No. A CUDA-capable GPU shortens processing time, and without one the same functions run on the processor.

Which image formats does it open? Most common ones, including RAW files, scanned TIFFs, JPEG and PNG.

ℹ️ Free trial: download the photo restoration tool, process your own scans and judge the output before paying. Saving is unlocked by a lifetime license paid once, and Business and Pro licenses are offered as well. Windows 7, 10 and 11 are covered by testing, and the interface is plain: a toolbar, a preview and a side panel with the settings of the active tool. People who come back to the photo restoration software months later find the same four checkboxes and one button.
