Great for project management but requires buy in

2018-03-13

Pros

Very full featured. Supports integration with Slack and other common apps. Social commenting and mobile app are also great.

Cons

Somewhat rigid compared to alternatives like Trello. I prefer Trello due to its flexibility and easy UI

An powerful alternative to Trello (and more)

2019-02-06

I have tried Asana as an alternative solution for Trello. Ended up keeping Trello

Pros

It has much more features than Trello, and it's still easier to use than Jira.

Cons

The pricing is high. Even for small projects, you'll need to do a big investment.

Great option for managing projects

2018-05-16

Pros

Great way to organize a project. One of the top ways for sure. Everything you need to keep a project organized, on time, and with everyone knowing what they need to know.

Cons

Coming from being a Trello user, feature parity with Trello exists but they are paid plans with Asana so the cost hasn't made it worth it.

A decent alternative to Trello

2019-01-06

Pros

Although I like Trello more, Asana is a far more polished and technically superior kanban-style dashboard for process management, especially thanks to its integration options.

Cons

Compared to Trello, Asana is a less free-user friendly software, meaning that while you can totally use Trello for free, Asana will ultimately require a paid subscription.

Great App, Similar to Other Task Management Tools

2019-02-06

Pros

My last company set this up a few months before I left for my current job. I used it for a few months. Pretty straight forward and similar to other Task Management softwares. I love the ease of communication with my team, I love the drag and drop capabilities. Great tool, nothing that stands out compared to other softwares, they are all pretty much the same.

Cons

I'd like to be able to customize the interface with personal graphics like Trello. I can set backgrounds for groups or tasks in Trello with custom pictures.

2018-06-16

Color coding tasks, boards can be used similar to Trello, Syncs to Google Calendar, Android App.

A simple on the surface but surprisingly complex task management tool.

2019-01-18

Was a heavy Trello user in the past (another great product) but Trello did feel very limited in it's capabilities.

Pros

The key feature that I like is the ability to set of different boards for each client and also boards that relate to specific areas of our business and be able to tie them all together. Also the MOBILE APP. The design has been brilliantly thought out and it's just as powerful as the full desktop version. No watering down but still just as easy to use.

Cons

In parts, it gets overly complex. This is not a huge complaint because I just choose not to use the features that I find too complex, but some of our team members have requested we use dependencies and a few of the other features and that's when it becomes too much work to keep everything in order.

2019-02-19

I prefer it over Trello and the rest.

Pros

Asana has a ton of features, much like the rest of these to-do apps, but the difference is Asana isn't at all cluttered or overwhelming, its flexible, customizable and sleek.

Cons

Asana is great! But the only thing I can say that's negative is just that it's got higher prices than some competition (for premium plans)

Great project management tool for larger teams.

2018-03-13

Pros

Asana seems to be one-upping Trello, allowing for easy task allocation/management (much better than Trello) and basic communication with the team.

Cons

Asana's chat feature is certainly lacking (it isn't the core feature of the product anyway), but it's significantly more expensive than Trello so it might be less accessible for smaller teams.

Project Management kept simple!

2018-10-04

-Previously used a mixture of Trello & Status Hero, but now we've consolidated it all onto Asana.

Pros

-Simple UI -Easy/Default email alert opt-in for overdue tasks -Reward Graphics (love the unicorn lol) -Nesting/Task trees simplified -Slack integration makes it feel like familiar territory vs. learning how to use an entire new app (new tool vs. new system

Cons

-Key features don't have tutorials/how-to's, leaving users to figure out how to do certain critical tasks on their own. -Slack intergration could use some work - a little bit obtrusive in the default UI

Nice organization tool

2018-12-14

Overall, I really liked it. I just think it's expensive when you consider there is a substitute that works just as well for free.

Pros

We used Asana when we did an integration with a big software partner. It worked really well to keep tasks and communication in line.

Cons

I don't think it's worth the cost when you can use Trello to do the same thing for free!

Good price. Easy to use.

2018-08-30

It's good however we are using Trello and Asana both. There are features inside Asana that I hope Trello improves on.

Pros

Easy to set up. Like the different backgrounds and card moving.

Better integrations with Slack and Asana. Adding a visual calendar would be very helpful as well as a project list area where team members can all see what each other is working on.

Intuitive project management

2018-09-04

We've met deadlines faster. Our team has a quicker visual picture of where things stand with our projects. We manage more from our phones on the go, which is helpful.

Pros

I've used both Trello and Asana, and Trello's UI feels more intuitive.

If you like kanban, Trello is great

2019-03-21

Great tool if you love the card-based approach. Easy to setup, manage, and view on phone.

Pros

Having a place to kanban my tasks in my personal life is very useful. The integrations with Zapier were also great. I worked with a company that had a full workflow to add new text to a card depending on what column it was in... very useful for complex project management without needing to be a developer. The mobile app is also great!

Cons

I moved to Asana and they released a card-based view that is everything Trello is, plus the core of what Asana is... and at a similar price.

It was a great system to use for small tasks and to stay organized. Loved that it's free too.

Pros

Easier than Jira or Asana or Mondays but simpler

2019-04-11

We work with Trello for all departents, several boards, and with several vendors, and it gets work done. Good to have visibility of loads, change priorities, and keep tasks updated. Recommended.

Pros

- Easy to use and control - Can update lots of content - Integrations with slack - Updates by mail help to keep track, specially with the tag/watch/members option - Several integrations - Mobile app super easy to use and fast

Cons

Good project management system, but not the best

2018-04-30

The boards and visual layout is very helpful, but I found the lists (like in asana) better for me.

Pros

Trello is very easy to use system. The boards are intuitive to play around with, and the focus on visual is great to get overview of many projects. It's also very clean to look at and share with others.

Cons

After trying out trello and asana, I found asana to have more features and personally more helpful.

It was fairly good for organizing my team for a while and was quite welcoming to volunteers that spared time for my non-profit.

Pros

- Visually very appealing - Intuitive to use - Not nearly as many notifications to email as Asana

Cons

- No recurring tasks offered on free version (that got me to switch) - Trello 'Gold' seemed like an empty upgrade/promotion - Concept is not intuitive at first glance. I had to watch a couple of videos to understand how to use cards etc.

Trello is a little too basic

2018-04-10

Pros

Works as a to-do list. A fair amount of automation but not totally mind-blowing. Pretty easy for small teams to use.

Cons

Less clean interface than Asana.

Simple, Clean, Kanban

2018-08-28

Pros

I believe Asana offers a Kanban view now, but I've always found Asana to be overly complicated, though I have not tried their version of Kanban extensively.

Cons

I haven't found any yet. It really is an awesome piece of software.

Trello Review

2018-12-13

I only tried Trello for a month but in that time frame I did not find it compared to other project management softwares. It had the basic features but it was not as intuitive as the others and nothing made me want to choose it over the others.

Pros

Trello has all the functions that are needed for communicate with team members and follow through on projects.

Cons

This software was not as easy or as advanced in it's features as Basecamp or Asana and didn't.

Everything you need to know

Asana and Trello are two cloud-based project management solutions loaded with features ranging from workflow management, task assignment, document management, and more. How do you decide which solution is the best fit for your project management needs?

In a nutshell, Asana focuses on shared task list features for project management and collaboration, while Trello is a visual collaboration solution based on the Kanban project management methodology.

To help you save time and effort in comparing the solutions, we have created a comparison tool that provides a head-to-head comparison of the product features. We recommend that you also focus on the core features of Asana and Trello such as visualization, timeline, integrations, mobile apps, and calendar.

Based on the vendors' websites and user reviews of Asana and Trello, here's how each of the core features stack up:

  • Visualizations: Asana uses a timeline layout, in which task lists are assigned to each user, while Trello visualizes project tasks on cards based on Kanban project management methodology.
  • Workflow management: Trello focuses on collaboration management by enabling users to add comments and attachments directly to cards; Asana users can add comments and attachments to tasks.
  • Integrations: Both products integrate with third-party apps to further help with project management, for example by increasing storage for your project files or by enhancing collaboration with clients and team members. However, Asana integrates with more than 100 applications.
  • Mobile apps: Trello and Asana both offer mobile apps to seamlessly integrate project management tasks on Android and Apple devices.
  • Calendar: Both apps allow you to organize project deadlines in a calendar. However Asana has a more customizable calendar interface that enables you to spot overlaps in your team's schedule.
