Jira Helps Keep us Organized

2016-05-10

We used Trello before but found JIRA has more capability and we have a better experience with sprints.

Pros

JIRA is easy to use, and there are some functions we don't even touch, so it definitely offers more than we need.

Cons

It's not free, and if you're a sartup strapped for cash, Trello may be enough.

Awesome tool for agile teams and startups

2019-03-19

We've switched over from Trello and we couldn't be happier with Jira.

Pros

We love the integration between Jira and other Atlassian products, but most importantly its ever-expanding marketplace. We were able to integrate Jira with GitHub, Slack and Travis CI in no time.

Cons

Jira is quite expensive for large teams, so some of our clients are reluctant to using it. Also notifications are quite hard to manage.

Jira is too hectic for simple issue tracking and development

2018-09-21

We knew Atlassian made great software, but Jira was a bit bloated and definitely felt sluggish compared to using something simple like Trello. Would not recommend for small teams.

Pros

We did appreciate Jira's robustness in features and seems a bit more geared towards heavy users and developers that need more control in issue tracking. However, overall, I think Jira's complexity is a detriment to user adoption.

Cons

So, I trialed Jira and although I got to actually running off a few sprints on Jira, we ended up going back to Trello due to the sheer learning curve of JIra and the ease of use that Trello has over Jira.

Awesome product. Better get ready for some training.

2019-04-16

Pros

it really can do everything. it is like trello and basecamp mixed together.

Cons

it is really hard to navigate intuitively. Once you learn the processes, you can navigate fine. But you cant just open the box and start playing with it.

There are better options out there, but you're often not allowed to use them

2019-04-11

I am forced to use JIRA with clients, and I sincerely wish I didn't have to use it. It provides many good reporting tools, I just wish they'd make it more user friendly.

Pros

JIRA has a good reputation and is used around the world by many different companies. Going from client to client is easy as there isn't a new piece of software to learn just to do reporting.

Cons

Newer options such as Trello are just way more user friendly and developer friendly in my opinion.

Robust Sodtware for Agile Teams

2018-12-15

This is best option for IT company for multiple type of operations: Help desk, Agile software (scrum, kanban) development, project management with waterfall methodology, time sheet and project budgeting. etc.

Pros

- We keep multiple operations (support, SW development, project management) in one place - very robust, stable, enterprise grade software - lot of plug ins that extend the functionality (service desk for SLA, tempo for time sheets, big picture for waterfall project management.

Cons

- a bit complex in some cases comparing to Asana, Trello. - high user price, cant extend for all company

Better Alternative to Trello

2019-04-22

Prior to migrating to JIRA, our company used Trello - I believe they're owned by the same company.

Pros

- The ability to divide tasks into groups named 'sprints' which can be worked on by a whole team week by week - Emails you with relevant updates if you are 'watching' a task - The ability to easily assign a task to other individuals, who are notified accordingly

Cons

- I thought learning how to navigate JIRA at the beginning was a little more difficult when compared to Trello -

the standard for DevOps teams

2018-12-14

I'm a project manager/scrum master running dev projects through Jira that integrate with marketing projects in Trello.

Pros

You can customize workflows and automate a lot of PM processes like reporting. Price is very competitive.

Cons

It's not very visual or customizable for end users, so there's a learning curve. Workflows/instances need to be set up very carefully at the start or else it's more of a headache than it's worth.

great and extensible task tracker,

2018-05-29

Flexible project management in cases when simple ones like Trello or built-in Gitlab functionality is not enough

Pros

- huge feature list: supports almost any workflow style imaginable - has subtasks, dependencies, some special features for Kanban like swimlanes, Kanplan - common project log and access control - extensible with plugins - has its own query language for searching and filtering - full markdown support (with tables!); - Jira Core with simplified feature set; - self-hosted option for small teams

Cons

web interface is rather retro-looking, slow and has "autogenerated" feel; steep learning curve; even great jira flexibility is not enough sometimes (i.e. one task cannot be assigned to multiple resources); requires rest of Atlassian stack for some rather basic features like Gantt charts, file storage, wiki, or calendaring; no mobile interface for self-hosted version, cloud mobile client lacks instant refresh

It's a good app but sometimes too complicated

2018-09-30

Pros

Jira has a ton of feature. If you're looking for something they probably already have it. Also the UI is way better since they recently redesign it.

Cons

If you're looking for something more simple you should use Trello.

All the configuration you need for a workflow

2019-02-01

Pros

JIRA lets you set up any possible workflow you can think of - very powerful structure and workflow support (e.g. tags, assigning tasks, etc)

Cons

Exactly what makes it so powerful also means that managing tasks and bugs just isn't as slick and easy as Trello or Asana.

Great tool to get company organized

2018-04-10

Pros

Has great integrations (e.g. with Trello), easy to create new projects and view team goals/sprints in a clear way.

Cons

Requires admin, and not all users can set permissions etc. Otherwise it's a great tool and I can't really say there are many cons.

I have seen and used Trello to some extent, but my Data SCientist advocated for this one.

Better alternatives exist

2018-09-10

Pros

- Probably the cheapest in the market - Responsive customer support - Pluggable system. Can extend functionality by installing various plugins. For e.g., you could get a Kanban board by installing the GreenHopper plugin - Very flexible administrative options that enable you to setup the project in any way you want. You can setup weekly sprints, milestones, projects etc

Cons

- Can get slow over time, especially when many plugins have been installed - Feels archaic, especially when compared to other competing systems such as Trello and Asana

Great way to manage bugs and sprints

2018-05-26

Pros

I think it does a great job of visualizing bugs/tasks with it's card layout, while allowing integration to Atlassian's other offerings.

Cons

With Atlassian buying (the very similar) Trello, I'm unsure how the two tools will grow in the future/ if they're going to diverge in different directions.

The best out there doesn't necessarily means the best?

2017-09-08

I've been using Jira for bug tracking and project management for over a year. Based on other solutions out in the market this is definitely the best offered at the moment, however there is still room for improvement.

Pros

The two main pros are: - Customizable: can create / remove any fields - Integration: can integrate with most popular systems such as Salesforce, Trello, Github, etc.

Cons

Sometimes can get quite cumbersome, if you're not used to the tool, or are tech savvy it may be hard to use filters and reporting.

Jira needs change tracking

2018-11-15

Our company switched to using Zeplin and Trello.

Pros

Flexibility, it lets you create pages with as much content as you need, including images.

Cons

Unable to indicate change requests in a sophisticated way. Unable to overlay tags on top of an image to indicate areas on a screenshot that need attention. We now use Zeplin for this. These are the two biggest complaints from our team, and why we stopped using the software. Overall, the UI is extremely difficult to use. I never figured out the best way to add a new task/bug to a specific sprint -- something that should be an easy interaction.

Without a free version, this alternative to Trello adds more advanced features and integration with external tools, such as HipChat, to stand at a higher level than that occupied by its most famous competitor.
