Overview

If you’re in the market for collaboration software, Slack and Microsoft Teams are two products worth considering. But how do their features, functionality, and pricing stack up against each other? Let’s take a look.

Slack is a single workspace that connects users with the people and tools they work with every day, no matter where they are or what they do. It integrates with third-party applications such as Google Drive, GitHub, and Twitter.

Microsoft Teams is a chat-based workspace within Office 365 which lets users collaborate on documents, make voice and video conference calls, view chat logs, and more. Users can access the software via web-based, iPhone, and Android devices. Some of its key features include role-based permissions, meeting management, file management, email integration, and project planning. Pros

Love Slack and would recommend to anyone to change over to it, the integration to other products is also really good.
Super easy set up, effortless onboarding, and great pricing plan for small groups. It has strong search functionality and intuitive threading.
You can have fun and customize. For example: We have a 'Jokes' channel that the slack bot will tell you jokes if you ask 'bot tell me a dad joke'- It's amazing.

Pros

I use this software almost every hour and it's super easy to use. The fact you can share your screen with someone without needing to be in the call in my eyes is brilliant.
Great organizational opportunity to make a team of contact people per office/department. Love the ability to use other apps with it.
It has been an amazing platform for all our educational needs. This is probably the best product that a university or school can invest in especially during this pandemic situation.

Cons

I disliked the inability to make a public group "private" after it's creation. Would occasionally lag and my.
While they are only visible to me, I am always worried that I accidentally posted something wrong.
They found it awkward that everything was a chat in Slack and uncomfortable with sending out a message that may "bother" others for small issues, and reverted to email, even with consistent reminders.

Cons

It has bad connection when working remotely. With a team of 30 on one call, we were getting every other word in and it made meeting ineffective.
Threads can become confusing. Replies can get lost in larger messaging groups and conversations confused on the threads layout.
When video is being used and when a different background is used and when the person moves it looks very fake and weird.

Slack

The best and most easy to use chat software for tech teams

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

Slack is super easy to use, and it's very intuitive. The mobile app is great, and it has tons of integrations to complement your workflow.

Cons

It's a little more expensive than competitors like Microsoft Teams.

Slack is one of the premier collaboration services

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

Slack is very user friendly in terms of layout, and gives Microsoft Teams a run for its money. The ability to create groups for individual projects keeps clutter out of emails while also ensuring only relevant team members receive project communications for projects in which they're involved.

Cons

Slack is expensive compared to other collaboration services (Microsoft Teams, Skype, etc.). With Microsoft Teams included in our Office subscription, we're having a hard time justifying the cost of Slack.

We've forgotten email communication after joining Slack

Reviewed 2 years ago

We're a remote first Startup so it's very essential for us to communicate and co-ordinate on a real time basis.

Pros

The massive availablity of native integrations is the reason we've joined Slack. Secondly sharing files and links is damn easy on it.

Cons

The pricing. Seriously there're many free alternatives like Telegram, Microsoft Teams & Whatsapp.

Slack is a good means of indivudual and cross-team communications

Reviewed 2 years ago

Slack is easy to use, but is also limited compared to Microsoft Teams.

Pros

Slack makes it easy to communicate with a coworker across the hall or across the world, and to set up groups for team and cross-team collaboration.

Cons

Doesn't integrate with other software as easily as Microsoft Teams does, for obvious reasons.

Slack

best chat and collaboration tool

Reviewed 3 years ago

i used slack with my previous team kind of outside of the company chat system... the company has gone with microsoft teams. microsoft teams is nowhere near as easy to use or as helpful as slack.

Pros

easy to use for chatting and collaborating with the team and with remote teams. works well on the PC as well as on the phone app. has many great plugins that allow it to work with your systems to tell you if a project deployed successfully or not... and giphy :)

Cons

i can't really think of something i don't like about it... other than that not enough people in my company are using it :(

Slack

Gets the job done, but not amazing

Reviewed 3 years ago

I wasn't too impressed with Slack overall. It's a good tool, but it isn't great. Microsoft Teams and Twist have come a long way to rival Slack (especially Microsoft Teams). Slack needs to make some changes to keep up.

Pros

The thing I enjoyed the most about Slack was the ability to integrate a large number of applications and services with it.

Cons

The Desktop Client is kind of slow and clunky compared to alternatives, and there are other paid (and free options) which provide more functionality nowadays.

Great option, Teams is better

I was hired by a client and we used Slack to communicate on a daily basis.

While I like Slack, I prefer Microsoft Teams. I guess it comes down to personal preference and needs.

Fun to use

Reviewed 6 months ago

It was so far a very good experience and I like it better than Microsoft Team.

Pros

The software is very easy to use to communicate real time with other teams at different locations and to share urgent documents/have access to it.

Cons

The more users are logged in e.g conference meeting, the more Slack starts lacking and freezing up. I am not sure if it's an software or internet connection issue.

Direct messaging is a must these days, with busy and remote workers. The different channels keep everything organized and ensure that the right people are getting the info they need, without bothering those it doesn't apply to.

Pros

I love the way Slack integrates with different apps like Google and Asana! It's very easy to share documents, coordinate calendars, and make sure everyone is up to date.

Cons

Unfortunately the cost is a challenge for our team, especially when Microsoft Teams is included already with our Microsoft subscription.

Easy tool for communication between team members and teams, but I have the feeling that Slack could be made a lot better without a great effort. I also use Microsoft Teams, and I can't say that I like slack more than Microsoft Teams, or otherwise.

Pros

It's easy to use easy to integrate Markdown support Fun to use

Cons

It should be easier to mute certain treats on certain conditions Slack supports markdown, but it should be easier for user who don't know markdown to format their messages. I miss the hierarchy of a response to a response to a response

Pros
