Pros

Its super simple to use and easy to get around to the information i'm looking for. I really like the fun things they send when you get paid.
We use it for payroll and benefits and its simple and effective. The customer service is also great as they are "human" because they actually listen and answer questions.
Not only do they make it easy to use the platform, the dashboard and overall experience with their tool is pleasant and truly great.

Pros

Overall I think it's great I love the ease of access of everything on the page and how it helps you with your budget.
Also, RUN provided all the needed records for the cares act(PPP), which was a huge help with the loan process. Lastly, I also frequently use the mobile app, a great feature I do enjoy.
The time clock integration is key. Also, we've had great luck with customer support and our sales rep is AMAZING.

Cons

Tax calculations and deductions for each employee is difficult to achieve with the software. Leave management is restricted to admininistrator alone.
I now use a different service because I was tired of the lack of organization in this regard, and the implication that by expecting more, I was being unreasonable.
My biggest frustration is inability to sign documents. I still have to use Docusign then upload the documentation into the individual profiles instead of kicking it off directly during onboarding.

Cons

I would have to say I hate the customer service aspect of the company. They are not helpful at all and really are useless to my employees as well as me.
Horrible Customer Service and Clunky Software.
When I said I was going to leave I wasn’t offered anything to keep my account. Months later I got calls and a million emails offering me months for free and no W2 charges.

Gusto is the go to payroll tool for startups

Reviewed 3 years ago

It has a ton of additional features as outsourced HR besides just a payroll software. So if you want an HSA for your employees. Or disabilities insurance. Or workers comp. Or health insurance, they can help you through all that. You can do contracts through it as well. 401K (he has it with Vanguard so as its better rate). Employment Tax Reporting & Payment. New Hire Reports. Workers Compensation Insurance. Labor Law Posters (everything you need to stay complaint). All that is included.

Pros

Super user friendly dashboard. You can run Gusto multiple times a month for the same cost. (ADP and other payrolls cost more money per run).

Cons

Doesn't provide household employees or some countries in it's international payroll.

Gusto is my favorite payroll software ever!!

Reviewed 3 years ago

Great customer service, great value, great UI, I've referred to to so many people already.

Pros

It's like someone was listening to me complain about Quickbooks payroll and ADP (and Tsheets) and made a software just for me. It's so simple - I was using an accountant to run payroll through ADP - Gusto saves so much time I can do it myself.

Cons

The reporting tools aren't super robust.

Great for Sole Practioners

Reviewed 2 years ago

For 90% of what you need in payroll processing, Gusto is major threat to ADP. Easy to set-up and use. Report is'nt terrible but it is harder to run complex reports.

Pros

The software is easy to set-up, use, and forget about. I can't stress how easy it is to deploy quickly.

Cons

The customer support is lacking. When you are employing complex strategies when it comes to income management, the tool is somewhat limited and support response times are slow.

Gusto Makes Payroll Easy

Reviewed 4 years ago

I really liked it. I moved to ADP for a promotional pricing. I would have moved back but ADP matched Gusto's pricing.

Pros

Gusto is the first service I used for payroll. They made the setup process very easy (though as a first timer it was confusing). Once it was in place, it was very easy to use (better/nicer than ADP).

Cons

The price. Running payroll for a single employee costs too much, but that is true for all of these services.

Better than ADP

Pros

We have transitioned from ADP to Gusto for one of our subsidiary and couldn't be any happier. Not only it's cost effective than ADP, it's built intuitively for HR professionals. It doesn't seem like they have acquired many different companies for different parts of the software like ADP has done.

Cons

Because it's not ERP, there are some limitations based on how your business operates.

Very Easy & Delightful for Employees to Use

Reviewed 4 years ago

Night and day user interface from tools like ADP.

Pros

As an employee, Gusto makes mundane (and sometimes frustrating) tasks like looking at payroll information and choosing benefits much easier. The entire benefits process was very clear, the user interface was easy to understand with minimal clicks, and the customer support was fast and helpful. I love the email reminders on payday, it's a great way to keep employees motivated and engaged.

Cons

I've heard it's tough to scale as companies get larger. This is a bummer because it's such a nice to use product.

Most Simple, Cost Effective Payroll System Available

Reviewed 9 years ago

We switched to Zenpayroll after being with ADP for a couple of years. ADP had an over-complex interface and a very costly fee structure. We trialed Wave Payroll which was an improvement but still not as streamlined as we were looking for and the payroll functions were a bit clunky. ZenPayroll has literally been a godsend. It probably takes less than 3 minutes to run a payroll, the team likes the quirky payday emails they get and the cost structure is scalable for a business of ANY size.

Simple interface with easy functionality

Missing total payroll cost before processing.

Just avoid them. Go with Gusto, so much easier, cleaner, cheaper and more transparent.

Pros

Cons

The price is ridiculously expensive. They lure you in with a "cheap rate" however they "forget" to tell you about all of the additional fees. The reporting is terrible. Good option for some, but some other options may be better for many

Reviewed 4 years ago

Whether it's a fit depends on many factors, but we'd recommend comparing it with Gusto to see which is best for you.

Pros

It works. Broad feature set: it can handle almost all common scenarios, and a few more. It's not that hard to use/learn, especially for professional bookkeepers/accountants, but even for untrained users -- not crazy difficult. Plus, it's the leader in the space.

Cons

Gusto's interface is more user-friendly than ADP. Plus, other options (such as Gusto) may be more cost effective depending on many factors (e.g. # of employees).

RUN Powered by ADP logo

RUN Powered by ADP

Great for mid-large companies

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

Ok if you have a small business of over 50 people this is probably a good solution for you. RUN handles all the details. They have a mobile app for your employees to be able to clock in and out and you can review their hours. They handle quarterly reporting and W2s at the end of the year.

Cons

For small businesses like us, there are more affordable options out there. We have a team of less than 10 and switched to Gusto about 2 years ago. The hours tracking is kinda silly from an admin point of view. You have to make corrections to time cards on one site and run payroll on a separate site. This is strange since it is the same company. It makes running payroll much more difficult.
