Pros

Coming from lotus notes I was instantly in love with outlook. I loves its clean and simple interface.
Overall, we are very happy and fulfilled with the Outlook software as it stands now and expect it to only get better.
As a software it is very good option. Nice looking UI, user friendly, good email management, directly integrated in Microsoft office.

Pros

I am generally satisfied with Thunderbird and have been using it now for 4-5 years. It provides an affordable solution that is relatively easy to use.
I love that Thunderbird is reliable. Having used Outlook for over a decade, I was a bit hesitant to switch, but am very glad I did.
I love that it is reliable. The core app has never let me down once I installed it.

Cons

The worst part I would say however is the app. They developed an app for the apple store and quite honestly it is slow and very difficult to navigate around compared to the desktop version.
Crash , no easy access from my phone , new emails update rate , older emails storage , retriving the older emails or lost emails is a big deal.
The interface has too much going on. There are a lot of useless features that i needed to turn off.

Cons

I didn't come up with anything that bothered me.
I find the interface very, very dated. It is cluttered, the fonts are 1990's and the way that I can't read an email without scrolling down drives me crazy.
Lack of support: Thunderbird is maintained by a small community of developers, so users may not receive prompt support or updates.

Pros

Outlook has been around for quite some time and has been improving constantly. What i like about it is the user friendly interface, folders personalization, rules and extensions

Cons

The outlook.pst files crashes the app sometimes when it reaches 10+ GB in size. Also there are some good and free alternatives to it (Mozilla Thunderbird for example)

Pros

I like the link between emails and the task function and the possibility to create tasks, contacts and meetings from one window.

The cost-benefit ratio could be better, esp. when you consider that there are free solutions like Mozilla Thunderbird out there that also have a lot to offer.

MS Outlook vs the rest

Reviewed 2 years ago

I really hate GMail, I think the UX is horrible, and Thunderbird is okay but a bit confusing and not so good with text formatting. I think Outlook has all the features I need and the UX that I feel more adequate, although of course this is a very personal issue.

Pros

I use Outlook, a lot. It's always open, I'm always emailing and receiving emails. I have tried Mail from MacOs, Thunderbird and a bunch others, and I have to say Outlook is the one I feel most comfortable with. It's easy to use, has all the features that I need and it can be personalised a little bit to accommodate for almost anybody.

Cons

The only con is that you have to pay for it, as opposed to GMail, Thunderbird, etc. But this is probably the piece of software I use the most and I spent most time with, so to me it's okay to pay for it.

So Bloated, But Not Really Helpful

Reviewed 2 years ago

The desktop version is fairly insufficient in the current market in 2022. Having all your mailed stored on a drive that could die and you lose everything is dangerous. It has too many features that the average user will never figure out or use. It's costly, and considering that you can get nearly the same thing free with Thunderbird, it's wasted expense.

Pros

It does the job as far as sending and receiving email.

Cons

It's so full of nonsense that almost no one will ever use. it's also very slow if you connect the desktop version to imap connections.

A great program for managing e-mail

Reviewed 2 years ago

A great email management program that has grown over the years but has remained fast and simple to use.

Pros

The program's features have become lighter over time: the search within the e-mail archive is instantaneous. So it is a program that has grown over the years having the ability to handle large amounts of archived emails.

Cons

In the management of replies, if these are transformed into text, the replies are not formatted correctly: even by setting, for example, ">" as a character that must be placed in front of the sender's text and included in the reply, there has always been a bug that in other programs such as Mozilla Thunderbird, this happens correctly, while in Microsoft Outlook html-to-text replies ignore this character. Therefore it is better to use external programs in the answers. In this regard, I myself have created a free program "Text Quoter - The Message Quoter" which for years has allowed me to remedy this defect. So I would suggest to MIcrosoft to fix this annoying bug.

Thunderbird is My Only Consideration with Mail Programs

Reviewed 6 months ago

I've used Thunderbird over Outlook and other Mail apps for years. Occasionally I try Outlook again and I even wrote my own email program but always go back to TB..

Pros

It works with Hotmail and Gmail accounts which not a lot of email programs do. There is lots of community support and many add-ons for all kind of things.

Cons

I always when trying to select the top email accidentally click the column header and re-order the emails which is annoying, would be nice if you could lock it.

Outdated interface and clunky performance, but is a secure and feature-rich free option

Reviewed 2 years ago

Go with Outlook or Gmail if these options are available to you.

Pros

It has a variety of extensions and options for customizing your email experience. It is a great free option for keeping all your email accounts in one place.

Cons

The UI is outdated and looks like 15-year old software. Performance is also clunky and setup can be cumbersome for those without a decent amount of experience. An inexperienced user could easily overcrowd their setup and degrade their experience without better guidance.

Thunderbird: a open-source free alternative to Microsoft's mail client.

Reviewed 3 years ago

The best problem I solved was that I could run this program in another operating system such as Linux, without needing a powerful computer to run it. As a result, the interface responded really quickly. The second most important point is that it is completely free, meaning there is no locked feature behind a paywall.

Pros

By far the most important part is that is just works. You can easily install it on your computer (even easier on Linux) and get back to where you were at. As it is developed by the Mozilla team, it is completely open source and free, meaning you won't have to rely on Microsoft business model. And in case something doesn't feel right or there is a killer feature that is lacking, most often than not you can find an add-on that suits your needs, for free! Oh, and it is really lightweight!

Cons

As it is not affiliated with Microsoft, it lacks advanced features present by default in Outlook. The spam detection, when you first start using it is not that great. However, the more you mark e-mail as spam the more the app gets right, learning from its experience.

Robust email client.

One of the most well rounded email clients and beats Outlook by a mile and then some!

Pros

Open source, Mozilla-made, feature rich. What's not to like! I used Mozila Thunderbird for a good 7 years before moving to Protonmail. Too many features to love to list. Ability to integrate with Protonmail is a plus as well.

Cons

The fact that this is a local client. Iwas needing cloud access to mails and my webmail was not cutting it. Also, setting up encryption was a bit tedious. Hence, had to move to Protonmail.

Thunderbird, the GO-TO Lightweight mailing client

Reviewed 6 months ago

We started using Thunderbird as an alternative for our outlook clients, performing even better during the days, and making it a go-to software for our new installations.

Pros

I think the most impactful thing about Thunderbird is the community that uses the software, making it evolve constantly and performing better. It is awesomely easy to set up and makes yourself feel really at ease, with a simple UI and plugin enhancements that make it even better.

Cons

I think Cloud support could be more extensive, to make Thunderbird evolve to the next level, the team should really make it an objective inside the application.

A great replacement for Outlook

Reviewed 3 years ago

I made the switch to Thunderbird when my outlook experience became too frustrating with lost emails and sent mail stuck in outbox oblivion. Since switching I've had nothing but great experience with Thunderbird.

Pros

I love that Thunderbird is reliable. Having used Outlook for over a decade, I was a bit hesitant to switch, but am very glad I did. I had numerous problems in the past with outlook which are no longer an issue since I've switched to Thunderbird. Thunderbird works the way I expect it to, and I never lose mail or have items stuck in my outbox. I highly recommend!

Cons

The thing I liked least about Thunderbird initially was the layout and aesthetic, but that quickly disappeared as I became familiar with where everything is located and the icons for everything. Now I would say the layout is very simple and less complicated than Outlook.

Thunderbird da oltre un decennio

Reviewed a year ago

A proof that free can be good

Reviewed 10 months ago

Since I have been using Thunderbird, I never regret my switch from Outlook. Over the years, although the development has not been fast, it has been fast enough for the product to adapt, at least in functionality, to what every mail client must deliver to its user.If you are looking for a robust free email client, Thunderbird is the best option.

Pros

I am sure that many people like me came to this product because it is the Mozilla Foundation behind it. We all know how they think about their product, making privacy their flagship. In the case of Thunderbird, you can find a robust email client with functionalities at the level of many other paid clients. If I need to list Thunderbird's advantages, I will start by talking about its extensibility,...

Cons

I will list the things I think can be improved in Thunderbird, but I repeat, we are in front of a robust FREE client, so please consider this when you read about the following points.Complexity: While Thunderbird's extensibility is a strength, it can also be a weakness. The sheer number of options and settings can be overwhelming for less tech-savvy users, and it may take some time to configure it...

I am generally satisfied with Thunderbird and have been using it now for 4-5 years. It provides an affordable solution that is relatively easy to use. It doesn't always integrate well with Microsoft SSO email, but that is mostly due to the inflexibility of the IT decision-makers on the other end.

HIgh security

I would describe my overall experience as a win. Thunderbird is endorsed by software blogs and magazines that are trustworthy. It's practical and better than Outlook. Managing all components of email is much more efficient. Thunderbird is independent from Mozilla now. I wonder why Mozilla chose to drop it, I would rather they hadn't. I trust and use Mozilla Firefox because of the high security. When making a decision it's important to remember that Thunderbird is only an email client, it is not webmail.

Pros

- Affordable -- No subscription needed. Community/open source. - High security -- Firewall. - Implementation in a reasonable amount of time with setup wizard. No manual setting adjustments. - Arrange folders in any way. - Extend features with add-ons. - Manage multiple accounts. - Manage group emails.

With free software, you often get MUCH MORE than what you pay for!

Reviewed 2 years ago

Email lies at the heart of our business -- customer support and customer contact is critical to our survival. This is not something that can be relegated to a Web UI or just any old client interface. Thunderbird provides small organizations (like ours) a free Email client that is full-featured, fast, and efficient. I can't imagine trying to use anything else!

Pros

The Thunderbird Email client provides a fast and easy way to corral multiple Email addresses. With support for POP3 mailboxes, you can pull your data off the Email server and retain/manage it all locally, which is great when you have to travel and may not always have access to the Email server, or for when you want the extra security of getting the data off of the Internet quickly. With IMAP support,...

Cons

Like with any software solution that you've used for 10+ years, the product does evolve, and they change the UI from time to time. These "improvements" may be beneficial to most users, but moving things around in the UI can slow you down, and the changes can sometimes break automation scripts that rely on specific sequences of keystrokes. Luckily, these occur only about every 2 years or so. Another issue I have is with the built-in calendar. Sometimes it captures an Event from an EMail with an ICS attachment -- and sometimes it doesn't. Apparently, Microsoft Teams doesn't send properly-formatted messages, so this is most often broken, but you can always work around it through manual data entry.
