Amazon Aurora - 2025 Pricing, Features, Reviews & Alternatives

What is Amazon Aurora?

Aurora is a relational database management system that helps businesses manage, migrate and run MySQL, PostgreSQL, and other traditional enterprise databases in the cloud. The platform is managed by Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), which facilitates hardware provisioning, application patching, automated backup, cluster replication, and more across the database.

Aurora Serverless lets businesses automatically adjust scalability, performance, availability zones, and storage requirements according to commercial databases running on the platform. With Amazon VPC, administrators can configure a virtual private network to launch AWS resources and secure and control applications using cryptographic keys in AWS Key Management Service (KMS). It also ensures recovery from physical storage failures by storing data replicas in multiple availability zones and creating backups of codes, drivers, applications, and other information in Amazon S3.

Aurora provides enterprises with Amazon Global Database, letting them manage distributed applications, low-latency reads, and disaster recovery during outages. IT Teams can utilize Amazon CloudWatch to gain insights into performance of hybrid, on-premises, and AWS applications.

Pros
“Keep the data, and this is a good thing, and this is one of its best features, and some programs are not safe, but this program very safe and very easy to use and retrieve my information is easy.”
“The reliability, speed, and ease of scaling that Aurora offers are unmatched at their price. RDS was great when we started out, but with our software's growth, moving to Aurora was an easy decision.”
“The best part of Aurora is that it is managed, which makes everything easier for setting up. The data is encrypted which helps the data to be secured completely.”
Cons
“One bad thing that developers have limited control over the underlying infrastructure and configuration.”
“It's not user-friendly which makes it difficult to use at the beginning.”
“The interfaces are all identical, we didn't have to change any code at all (except for one thing -- see below), and once we cut over, it just worked.”
