FileWave - 2025 Pricing, Features, Reviews & Alternatives

What is FileWave?

FileWave lets businesses manage their application deployment, network settings, profiles, passwords, password resets, email configuration, and more, and block explicit content on multiple social-media platforms including YouTube, iMessage, AirPlay, and the iBook Store. It provides detailed inventory reports regarding all device information such as MDM (mobile device management) enrollment data, installed applications, IP addresses, device names, OS versions, and much more.

FileWave is compatible with apps, devices, and configurations of Mac, Windows, Chrome and mobile phones. The software is designed to integrate with the underlying mobile management infrastructure and work alongside existing directory services. FileWave automatically connects a new device to its respective group once it is enrolled in the software’s server.

FileWave is suitable for organizations that need management solutions for Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) or ability to import VPP (Volume Purchase Plan) code spreadsheets. The console allows IT managers to control their devices without deploying extra human resources. The managed distribution module enables administrators to assign or revoke apps on selective devices remotely, and FileWave admins can generate personalized settings with the help of the parameterized profiles module.

Benefits of using FileWave

• FileWave is designed to aid small, medium, and large enterprises in managing multiple devices and users by connecting them on a single server and providing detailed inventory information to the admin.

• The software imports VPP (Volume Purchase Plan) code spreadsheets to purchase and dispense applications in bulk with the help of a unified admin panel.

• FileWave simplifies unified endpoint management with the help of standardized workflows based on Filesets, Smart Groups, and reporting engines to enable cross-training of IT teams and managing of multiple systems.

• FileWave offers a self-service kiosk, with which the admin can make certain applications, documents, and other resources available to team members. End users can install pre-approved applications without the need of admin rights or passwords.

• FileWave updates and patches macOS and Windows operating systems as well as third party applications.

Pros
“It is easy to use and I can make changes, additions, or deletions very quickly. Their customer and technical support is fantastic.”
“It is a top quality MDM and makes managing iPads a breeze. Another nice feature is device location.”
“The ability to have boosters to aid the main Filewave server allows you to maintain relatively large architectures. Their support team is prompt and will go step-by-step with you to resolve issues.”
Cons
“Very few problems occur, and when they do, they are never extreme problems. We’ve never had downtime or complete unusability as we have from our previous MDM.”
“Vague "Handled by MDM" with no documentation online to understand it. Filesets that cannot be removed from devices--"Upgrade Server" or "Apple's fault.”
“My only gripes tend to be with specific missing features that I happen to know are offered by competitor's products.”
