Easy to use; Fabulous customer service!

Reviewed 7 years ago

I've recommended Format to all of my photographer friends. It would be awesome if it were cheaper but I understand all the costs associated with running an interface like this and I'm happy to oblige with the cost!

Pros

Love the simplicity and functionality of the user interface. But my absolute favourite thing is the Format customer service. No waiting on the phone to get help from someone across the world needed... you message them over the website and they get back to you so soon! And they really do listen... if you ever find something you don't like or wish they had, they will most likely include this feature in their next update!

The crisp design and layout! I love how easy it is to upload images. This system is easy to use and I am not a tech person. I truly believe I'm getting an awesome value for my money!

Cons

I would like to have stats about visits to my page and useage. I need to know who is visiting my page and how.

Format always comes through, from UX to support to innovation of an already great product.

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

They constantly innovate to enrich the client & end user experience. They help when needed and staff are awesome. Value for money is a no-brained with Format: it is excellent.

Cons

There is very little to say about the downside of this software. I love it and would change.nothing about it.

There's not much I don't like about it but if I were to say it would be that I wish there were more design options

I have been using Format for quite some time now and still think its the best option for me.

Reviewed 7 years ago

The ability to easily customize and update my website without hiring out someone to do so.

Pros

I love that it is quick and easy. I can change anything I need to in a matter of seconds. I love that the format team is always making improvements and doing their best to keep the user interface simple while giving their customers what they ask for.

Cons

I think there could be more plan options. I recently had to upgrade my website because I was going over in image count due to a recent shoot I was proofing for a client. I was shocked at the huge jump in price just for more image count. Not a whole lot of bang for the amount of bucks ($$$) there. I'll be downgrading again as soon as my client is done proofing their shoot. I would like to see format...

There are better options now

Reviewed 2 years ago

At the time I started my website, Format's pricing was competitive with the market. It seemed to offer enough features and service quality to be worth the price. Now that a few years have passed, it seems there are more cost effective options.

Pros

It seemed to be really designed with creative professionals in mind. I liked that I didn't have to skim through tons of templates and features for blogs and other non-portfolio based website structures. It also has a great design sensibility. I felt I could easily create a clean looking portfolio that emphasized my artwork, as opposed to distracting the user with a flashy design.

Cons

For the price I was paying, I felt that I wasn't getting the most out of my investment. The caps on the number of images or projects I could include felt very limiting, but the next tier of subscription felt above my budget and was filled with other perks and features that I didn't need and didn't want to be paying for.

I am happy that I found Format, and want more people to know how awesome their product is.

Reviewed 7 years ago

So far Format is the only company I've found that has fulfilled my requirements for WYSIWYG site production at a reasonable cost.

Pros

Format is easy to use and offers many clean, non- distracting, and professional templates. The customer service crew is friendly and rapid in response. They want to know real details if you have a complaint. I've never had a problem with my site going offline or getting hacked. It is direct- unlike managing a site through wordpress. They surprise us with free new upgrades...like a store! I thought that was really cool.

Cons

I've been using the redesigned site administrator graphic upgrade and mentioned to customer service that I thought the earlier version was easier to navigate or see, perhaps it was a design/ contrast issue. I'm getting used to the new layout, so in some ways I'm used to the learning curve of a new graphic interface design. Perhaps another visualization option under the new scheme, or a few adjustments available for contrast settings would help.

The overall experience using Format.com is incredible. From A-Z they have every aspect covered!

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

That it's easy to use. I love the professional look of the themes but most importantly, I love the price point! If it was more money - it probably wouldn't be worth it but with the price point now in comparison to SquareSpace and other sites - its the best! I LOVE that it's a Canadian Company!

Cons

It has a few bugs with editing. I also wish the page designs were much for customizable! I wish that each page was able to have a separate "design theme". Sometimes certain galleries and projects deserve or need different designs or gallery viewings! Its limited for the entire website to one theme and type of gallery viewer!

Very easy interface and beautiful designs let me focus on my own projects, instead of web design!

Reviewed 7 years ago

Format is wildly easy to use, with beautiful templates to choose from, and an unimaginably large breadth of customization an artist can utilize. I host two of my websites on Format, and will likely never go back! I appreciate the frequent updates, and occasional emails and "tips" the team sends out.

Pros

The interface is very easy and intuitive, but still offers ways to customize templates to fit your needs. I had found other web building sites daunting, but Format is clean, professional, and lets me focus on actually doing art, instead of biting my nails over web design. I appreciate the frequent updates, and very fast customer service.

Cons

The price could be a deterrent to some people, but honestly, I'll probably never move my two websites to a different host.

It does what it shows you and it doesn't change the rules without notifying beforehand

Reviewed 7 years ago

Exposure and acknowledgement plus some very interesting invitations and opportunities.

Pros

Usability is key in the template designs and it gives me freedom of polishing the design to my own needs. The information/help is good and I think the helpdesk chat is very good. I'm always taken seriously and the answers are always straight and not packed in commercial sales type wording. Compared to the big other sites they don't change things dramatically into something I don't need or pay for. It's value for money.

Cons

ssl is still not available but it's on the list of high priority. Sometimes photos loading time is a bit too slow on broadband lines and 4g. Some of the design tweaking brings in some trial and error which slows down the proces but I can live with that.

A great product (though I found something better)

Reviewed 2 years ago

Format served me well and provided very good customer service. I used it happily for a small number of years albeit at a fairly simple level. It allowed me to share galleries that provided a reasonable user experience for my clients and to promote my business with an attractive website.

Pros

I settled on Format because it offered most features I was looking for at an acceptable price point. At the time I was looking mainly for a way to share galleries with clients for review. What I liked most was the ability to customise templates via HTML. The customer service from Format was very good.

Cons

The e-commerce functionality did not meet my needs at the right price point, and I found the configuration options for client galleries limiting. It's important to note that I last used Format close to 2 years ago.

I really enjoy using this web hosting site!!

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

It works great with the user interface and I feel like I have total control! The creative team who designs the web designs are the biggest sell for myself, also being able to use proofing is a game changer!

Cons

I feel as though sometimes the site lags on upload time, but that is the only downside! I wish they did not increase, the biggest selling point at first with the limited designs was the price now I feel as though I am not a qualified customer.

easy to use but not look easy

Reviewed 7 years ago

I could design my homepage easily and much cheaper than hiring technician.

Pros

I think its really easy to use and customize a page. but a designed page doesnt look easy to people. People always ask me where and how I design my page.

Cons

I know if I have more free to customize page, It would be more difficult to use. But sometimes, I wish that I have more rooms to change things on pages.

Many gigs, and referrals from the simple design.

Pros

Id have to say the price and simple categories when trying to set up the right type of website you want. you can get started quickly, theres not much room to procrastinate.

Cons

the new editing area for the themes aren't as easy to navigate as it used to me, maybe too many options. which I'm sure is great for many people just not me

sleek, streamlined, professional, fun

Reviewed 7 years ago

I have an inexpensive, professional looking portfolio to show my clients.

Pros

You don't need coding experience and they've curated designs for every type of website! I like how all the designs look extremely professional and unlike other websites that fall under the same category. They hold themselves and their products to a higher caliber and I really feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

Cons

It's not as customizable as I wish it could be, but for the price and ease of use, its worth it. I got my boyfriend to use the same website for his business and he proved that there is a bit of a learning curve, but once you've learned the ropes, the website is easy to navigate.

Very easy to use and figure out, great ability to customize. Affordable and amazing customer service

Reviewed 7 years ago

A beautiful website and a one place to do most aspects of what I need from my site.

Pros

The drag and drop is easy to use, and it looks great. You can easily figure out what any problems or elements are, and how to adjust them. There's a easy web pop up to get to customer service if you have any issues. They offer a blog, store, portfolio, client gallery, and all sorts of templates so that you can "do it all". They also helped me with linking to my domain and everything that entailed.

Cons

There was a bit of experimentation necessary to figure out how to properly use the tag system, it's a bit different from others I've used, but easy to fix once I figured it out.

The most artistic platform to showcase your portfolio

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

I love how minimal, responsive & unique Format's themes are and how professional yet artistic it looks. The credibility of my photography business went up a tenfold with format and truly has an artistic presence to it that I never had with Squarespace. I also love the wide variety of options to customize your site and make it your own– without needing to code.

Cons

The jump from the lowest plan (100 images/15 pages/3 products) to the middle plan (1,000 images, 20 products, unlimited pages, etc) is kind of a big jump, but the price overall is very affordable.

Pros

How easy it is to use. The technical support. The layout and all it's functions. The price. The quick preview link.

Cons

I wish there were more themes to choose from. I do find this quite limited. As artists we want our sites to be different, but we want to have some level of control and we don't have thousands to invest in a website that sometimes is harder to use. Please make more themes/sites :)

Very easy to use, perfect price and amazing template options.

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

I enjoy the amount of bang for your buck. The choices the site provides to show who you are through your website is so vast, and it doesn't take a long time to do.

Cons

Sometimes I wish it were easier to customize something on a template instead of using 100% of that template. Sometimes I want to make a tiny customization to something that doesn't feel entirely like me.
